Središnja tema rada usmjerena je na udio Drnišana u mletačkim prekomorskim vojnim postrojbama tijekom 18. stoljeća (Fanti oltramarini – pješaci i Croati a cavallo/Cavalleria Croati – konjanici). U prilogu rada donosi se cjelovit pregled svih do sada istraženih drniških vojnika u pješačkim i konjaničkim snagama Mletačke Republike u 18. stoljeću.
During the Early Modern Period and especially the Venetian-Ottoman wars in the 17th and 18th centuries, the axis of the Venetian land army across the Adriatic were the troops known as Fanti ...oltramarini and Croati a cavallo (Cavalleria Croati). They were primarily manned with soldiers and officers originating from the Venetian lands, from Istria to Albania and Greece, but there were also many soldiers from other areas, mostly those bordering on the Venetian territories. This paper focuses on the soldiers from Venetian Albania (Albania Veneta) and their role in these troops. It is based on an analysis of original documents preserved at the Archivio di Stato di Venezia, more precisely the collection of Inquisitori sopra l’amministrazione dei pubblici ruoli – a magistracy in charge of recruiting soldiers and sending them to the wider area controlled by Venice, from Veneto to Greece. The documents include lists of officers, commanders, and common soldiers, made at regular intervals during the recruitment or supervision of troops. At this stage of research, 75 Albanian soldiers have been identified in the Venetian infantry and cavalry during the 18th century.
The sources refer to them as d’Albania or Albanese, only rarely mentioning their exact place of origin. Albanians were present in infantry and cavalry throughout the 18th century (especially its first half) and mostly served in infantry troops.

One of the key preconditions for building up and maintaining the Venetian naval empire in the early modern period was a successful connection between the interests of the local elites and the central ...authorities. The Venetian possessions in the Eastern Adriatic were no exception to this rule, and the noble families from the communes of Dalmatia and Bokelj played a particularly important role in this respect. For generations, their members held various public posts of local significance throughout the said area. From the mid-17th century, the local elites were increasingly involved in the Venetian military service. In this way, the Venetian military organization in the Eastern Adriatic region became the most important field in which the interests of the central authorities in Venice and the local elites were intertwined and firmly connected. An excellent example for studying this form of integration between the local elites and the state is the noble family of Buća (Bucchia), one of the ancient and especially respectable noble kindreds of Kotor. After some members of the family distinguished themselves in important civil services of the Republic, the Buća became more intensely involved in the Venetian military organization during the last decades of the 17th century.
Autori u radu, na temelju izvorne građe, rekonstruiraju vojnu karijeru trojice članova trogirske plemićke obitelji Michieli Vitturi (pukovnika Vicka, potpukovnika Nikole te kapetana Jerolima Franju), ...časnika mletačkih profesionalnih prekomorskih pješačkih postrojbi Oltramarina. U prvom dijelu rada autori nastoje, prateći vojne karijere spomenutih časnika, uočiti i objasniti neke promjene u organizacijskoj strukturi mletačke vojske posljednjih godina postojanja Mletačke Republike.

military path of these officers, and this paper focuses on Stjepan’s in
particular, clearly outlines the pattern of integration of the Eastern Adriatic local elites into the Venetian maritime empire. The main part of the study is an analysis of the infantry regiment Oltramarina, commanded by Colonel Stjepan Buća, in the period from 1715 to 1741. The authors bring transcripts of various documents that are directly related
to the military activity of Stjepan Buća as a colonel in Venetian infantry units
This article continues the current research on the Croatian-Venetian maritime relations, especially the role the Croats played in the Venetian naval forces during the early modern period. It is based ...on the sources preserved at the Archivio di Stato di Venezia (holdings of the state directorate for the naval forces – Provveditori all'Armar) and focuses on the penitentiary galley “Dolfino”, commanded from 1774-1778 by Dujam Franjo Zek Mišević (Doimo Francesco Zech Misevich) from Šibenik. The introductory part offers some basic data on Venetian penitentiary galleys, followed by a brief account on the Zek Mišević family from Šibenik and on Dujam Franjo himself, particularly in regard to his position in the naval forces. The central part of the article is an analysis of the crew of penitentiary galley “Dolfino”, with a particular emphasis on the rowers-convicts originating from the Eastern Adriatic. For the period 1774-1778, the documents list 36 of them. They mostly came from Dalmatia and Istria, and the reasons they ended on a galley included grave criminal offences (murder, robbery, rape, and various other forms of violence). Many among them must have been sentenced to death and rowing in chains on the galley was their only alternative. The author also indicates the differences in sentences among the individual convicts and offers an analysis of the institutions on various levels of state authority (central, regional, local) that issued the verdicts. Eventually, a list of crew members serving on the galley and a table of Croatian rowers-convicts are supplied.
