This article describes the development of Croatian markers for the measurement of the Big-Five personality model, in the form of bipolar and unipolar rating scales. A sample of students (N=250) used ...these scales to describe themselves, and they were also described by 250 of their best acquaintances on the same instruments. All four data sets (self-ratings and peer- -ratings with bipolar and unipolar markers) showed clear five- -factor structures. These factors were clearly and strongly related on a one-to-one basis with the American Big-Five model, measured with the Croatian version of IPIP instrument (Mla~i} & Goldberg, 2007). The examination of the relations of factor structures between self and peer ratings confirmed the equivalency of Big-Five correspondent dimensions in both rating procedures. All of the above-mentioned results suggest the use of Croatian Big-Five factor markers in future research.
In this study, in which 296 undergraduate students participated, we examined the role of stage resolution derived from the first six stage crises outlined by Erikson and emotional competence in ...prediction of avoidance and anxiety in romantic relationships. Taking personality dimensions into consideration, only intimacy was found to be significant in predicting the avoidance dimension. When emotional competence skills entered the analysis, the amount of explained variance was significantly increased, whereas the variable expressing and labeling emotions had the biggest contribution. Findings suggest that participants who score higher on intimacy and are better in expressing emotions, are also less likely to avoid intimacy in romantic relationships. With the chosen set of predictors we explained about a third of the variance of anxiety in romantic relationships, and the only significant predictors were trust and autonomy, personality strengths that theoretically develop in the earliest stages of psychosocial development. Regression analyses suggest that there is a difference in the nature of processes that stand behind these two dimensions of attachment, which corresponds with the theoretical expectations. ABSTRACT IN ENGLISH: This article describes the factor structure of IPIP Big-Five factor markers in self-reports and parental-ratings of a sample of adolescents in Croatia. A large sample of ...adolescents (N = 706) used the revised Croatian version of the 50-item IPIP Big-Five inventory to describe themselves, and they were also described by 592 of their parents on the same instrument. The adolescents also used the translated version of Rosenberg's Self-Esteem Scale to describe themselves and they were also described by their parents on the same measure. In separate analyses of both self-reports and parental-ratings, the IPIP measures showed clear five-factor orthogonal structures that were nearly identical to the Croatian adult structure and American structure. The relations of self-reports and the parental-ratings on IPIP Big-Five markers revealed a clear one-to-one relation between all five corresponding factors. In separate analyses of both self-reports and parental-ratings, the self-esteem measures showed a close correspondence to the factor structure of the original form and the single factor of self-esteem was highly correspondent between those two data sets. Five personality factors were moderately, however consistently, related to self-esteem. The relation between the dimension of Emotional Instability and self-esteem was the strongest while the relation of Agreeableness and self-esteem was the weakest. U istraživanju, u kojem je sudjelovalo 296 studenata, ispitali smo
ulogu ishoda kriza prvih šest Eriksonovih stadija i emocionalne
kompetentnosti u predikciji dimenzije izbjegavanja bliskosti i ...dimenzije
anksioznosti u ljubavnim vezama. Kad govorimo o varijablama
ličnosti, jedino se intimnost pokazala značajnim
prediktorom u objašnjavanju dimenzije izbjegavanja bliskosti.
Uvođenjem vještina emocionalne kompetentnosti u analizu, značajno
smo povećali postotak objašnjene varijance, čemu je najviše
pridonijelo izražavanje i imenovanja emocija.
izražavaju svoje emocije manje skloni izbjegavanju bliskosti u
ljubavnim vezama.

A developmental research of the relationship between the Big-Five and speed of information processing (SIP) was conducted with the aim of considering the personality-intelligence relationship. ...Personality dimensions were assessed by International Personality Item Pool (IPIP) questionnaire, while SIP and related test errors (Er-SIP) were assessed by Cognitive Abilities (KS2-2) pencil and paper perceptual speed test. The sample consisted of 1063 adolescents (378 males) at the age range from 14 to 18. The preliminary analyses showed that: (1) age related changes of SIP were weak and those of personality dimensions barely existed, (2) modest gender differences are found for all personality dimensions except for Intellect, and they are not found for SIP and Er-SIP, (3) reduced variability and significant distribution skewness systematically appeared only at Er-SIP, and (4) personality dimensions-SIP relationship was not curvilinear. The main analyses showed that: (1) SIP had low positive correlations only with Extraversion and Agreeableness, (2) Er-SIP didn't correlate with personality dimensions at all and (3) personality dimensions-SIP relationship mostly insignificantly depends on age and gender.
We proposed, described and classified 17 specific characteristics of elite athletes in team sports games which, we presumed, have influence on the functioning and performance of individual players ...and the whole team. A hypothetical structure of six categories of mostly psychological and social variables was constructed. These are: locus of control, specific competence, motivation, successful reactions in situation of high competitive pressure, coordinated teamwork, and successful solutions of game situations. The model is based upon the arguments derived from the perceived characteristics of athletes. The purpose of this model is to establish the exact scientific and professional approach to: the assessment of the status and the development of specific abilities and characteristics of athletes, the assessment of the potential and the actual quality of players and the selection for a team, the preparation and coaching of athletes and teams, the management of athletes' potential development, as well as to the monitoring and evaluation of psychosocial preparation effects in team sports games.
The paper describes the lexical approach in personality psychology and the development of personality descriptive taxonomies in various languages and cultures. The lexical approach is based on the ...assumption that the most important personality traits are encoded as words in natural languages and that the analysis of the structure of those words may lead to a scientifically acceptable personality model. Starting with Galton's lexical hypothesis, through initial research of adjective structure in the United States of America, the lexical approach and associated taxonomies expanded to other countries and other word classes in recent years.
