Constructing ultralong organic phosphorescent materials possessing a high quantum yield is challenging. Herein, assemblies of purely organic supramolecular pins composed of alkyl‐bridged ...phenylpyridinium salts and cucurbit8uril (CB8) are reported. Different from “one host with two guests” and “head‐to‐tail” binding, the binding formation of supramolecular pins is “one host with one guest” and “head‐to‐head,” which overcomes electrostatic repulsion and promotes intramolecular charge transfer. The supramolecular pin 1/CB8 displays afterglow with high phosphorescence quantum yield (99.38%) after incorporation into a rigid matrix, which is the highest yield reported to date for phosphorescent materials. Moreover, multicolor photoluminescence can be obtained by different excitation wavelengths and ratios of host to guest. Owing to the redshift of the absorption, the supramolecular pins are applied for targeted phosphorescence imaging of mitochondria. This work will provide a reasonable supramolecular strategy to achieve redshifted and efficient phosphorescence both in the solid state and in aqueous solution.

In the contemporary world, frugal innovation (FI) is the most discussed area to enhance corporate sustainable performance (CSP) in manufacturing firms. The knowledge management process (KMP) is also ...a key determinant of FI. Existing literature is limited to knowledge management (KM) and its impact on CSP. This study aims to determine the effect of the KMP (acquisition, dissemination, and application) on sustainable corporate performance with the association of FI. The survey method was used to collect data from 356 small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in China. Structure equation modeling was applied to obtain the results of collected data. Results show that all three dimensions of KM have a significant impact on CSP. Furthermore, FI also has a significant and positive impact on CSP. Results further show that FI partially mediates the relationship of the knowledge dissemination, knowledge application and sustainable corporate performance but no mediation role FI was found between knowledge acquisition and CSP. The findings of this study will provide useful insights for experts and manufacturers. It will help to understand the role of KM in their organizational behavior by being an economical manufacturing process. This study underscored the importance of the KMP to policymakers. In countries such as China that have global orders, KM is an essential determinant of FI. KM is a tool used to achieve CSP goals inside and outside of an enterprise, thus the development firms need to focus on KM.

There is still uncertainty on whether ionizing radiation from CT scans can increase the risks of cancer. This study aimed to identify the association of cumulative ionizing radiation from CT scans ...with pertaining cancer risks in adults.
Five databases were searched from their inception to November 15, 2020. Observational studies reporting cancer risks from CT scans in adults were included. The main outcome included quantified cancer risks as cancer case numbers in exposed/unexposed adult participants with unified converted measures to odds ratio (OR) for relative risk, hazard ratio. Global background radiation (2.4 mSv per year) was used as control for lifetime attribution risk (LAR), with the same period from incubation after exposure until survival to 100 years.
25 studies were included with a sum of 111,649,943 participants (mean age: 45.37 years, 83.4% women), comprising 2,049,943 actual participants from 6 studies with an average follow-up period as 30.1 years (range, 5 to 80 years); 109,600,000 participants from 19 studies using LAR. The cancer risks for adults following CT scans were inordinately increased (LAR adults, OR, 10.00 95% CI, 5.87 to 17.05; actual adults, OR, 1.17 95%CI, 0.89 to 1.55; combined, OR, 5.89 95%CI, 3.46 to 10.35). Moreover, cancer risks elevated with increase of radiation dose (OR, 33.31 95% CI, 21.33 to 52.02), and multiple CT scan sites (OR, 14.08 95% CI, 6.60 to 30.05). The risk of solid malignancy was higher than leukemia. Notably, there were no significant differences for age, gender, country, continent, study quality and studying time phrases.
Based on 111.6 million adult participants from 3 continents (Asia, Europe and America), this meta-analysis identifies an inordinately increase in cancer risks from CT scans for adults. Moreover, the cancer risks were positively correlated with radiation dose and CT sites. The meta-analysis highlights the awareness of potential cancer risks of CT scans as well as more reasonable methodology to quantify cancer risks in terms of life expectancy as 100 years for LAR.

Supramolecular polymerization can not only activate guest phosphorescence, but also promote phosphorescence Förster resonance energy transfer and induce effective delayed fluorescence. Herein, the ...solid supramolecular assemblies of ternary copolymers based on acrylamide, modified β‐cyclodextrin (CD), and carbazole (CZ) are reported. After doping with polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) and dyes, a NIR luminescence supramolecular composite with a lifetime of 1.07 s, an energy transfer efficiency of up to 97.4% is achieved through tandem phosphorescence energy transfer. The ternary copolymers can realize macrocyclic enrichment of dyes in comparison to CZ and acrylamide copolymers without CD, which can facilitate energy transfer between triplet and singlet with a high donor–acceptor ratio. Additionally, the flexible polymeric films exhibit regulable lifetime, tunable luminescence color, and repeatable switchable afterglow by adjusting the excitation wavelength, donor–acceptor ratio, and wet/dry stimuli. The luminescence materials are successfully applied to information encryption and anti‐counterfeiting.

The safety and efficacy of rotational atherectomy (RA) in patients with acute coronary syndrome (ACS) treated with different rotational speeds remain unclear. This was an observational retrospective ...registry study. Between February 2017 and January 2022, a total of 283 patients with ACS were treated with RA. The patients were divided into 2 groups: the low-speed group (130,000 to 150,000 rotations/min rpm,182 cases) and the high-speed group (160,000 to 220,000 rpm, 101 cases) according to the maximum RA speed. The outcomes analyzed were procedural complications; incidence of heart failure, stent thrombosis, and cardiac death during hospitalization; and 30-day major cardiovascular and cerebrovascular events. Patients in the low-speed RA group had a higher incidence of vasospasm during RA (15.4% vs 6.9%, p = 0.040), whereas the incidence of slow blood flow was higher in the high-speed RA group (16.5% vs 27.7%, p = 0.031). There was no significant difference in other complications or in 30-day major cardiovascular and cerebrovascular events between the 2 groups. Moreover, logistic regression analysis identified rotational speed (160,000 to 220,000 rpm) as a predictor of slow flow during RA (odds ratio 1.900, 95% confidence interval 1.006 to 3.588, p = 0.048). For every 10,000-rpm increase in rotational speed, the risk of slow flow increased by 27% (odds ratio 1.273, 95% confidence interval 1.047 to 1.547, p = 0.015). In conclusion, patients with ACS treated with a lower RA speed (130,000 to 150,000 rpm) had a higher risk of vasospasm, whereas those treated with higher speeds (160,000 to 220,000 rpm) had a higher incidence of slow flow. High rotational speed (160,000 to 220,000 rpm) is an independent risk factor for slow flow during RA in patients with ACS.

Interactions between plants and soil microbes are important for plant growth and resistance. Through plant–soil‐feedbacks, growth of a plant is influenced by the previous plant that was ...growing in the same soil. We performed a plant–soil feedback study with 37 grass, forb and legume species, to condition the soil and then tested the effects of plant‐induced changes in soil microbiomes on the growth of the commercially important cut‐flower Chrysanthemum in presence and absence of a pathogen. We analysed the fungal and bacterial communities in these soils using next‐generation sequencing and examined their relationship with plant growth in inoculated soils with or without the root pathogen, Pythium ultimum. We show that a large part of the soil microbiome is plant species‐specific while a smaller part is conserved at the plant family level. We further identified clusters of plant species creating plant growth promoting microbiomes that suppress concomitantly plant pathogens. Especially soil inocula with higher relative abundances of arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi caused positive effects on the Chrysanthemum growth when exposed to the pathogen. We conclude that plants differ greatly in how they influence the soil microbiome and that plant growth and protection against pathogens is associated with a complex soil microbial community.
In the present study, we hypothesized that hypoxia-inducible factor 1α (HIF-1α)-mediated mitophagy plays a protective role in ischemia/reperfusion (I/R)-induced acute kidney injury (AKI). Mitophagy ...was evaluated by measuring the changes of mitophagy flux, mitochondria DNA copy number, and the changes of mitophagy-related proteins including translocase of outer mitochondrial membrane 20 (TOMM20), cytochrome c oxidase IV (COX IV), microtubule-associated protein 1 light chain 3B (LC3B), and mitochondria adaptor nucleoporin p62 in HK2 cells, a human tubular cell line. Results show that HIF-1α knockout significantly attenuated hypoxia/reoxygenation (H/R)-induced mitophagy, aggravated H/R-induced apoptosis, and increased the production of reactive oxygen species (ROS). Similarly, H/R induced significantly increase in Bcl-2 19-kDa interacting protein 3 (BNIP3), a downstream regulator of HIF-1α. Notably, BNIP3 overexpression reversed the inhibitory effect of HIF-1α knockout on H/R-induced mitophagy, and prevented the enhancing effect of HIF-1α knockout on H/R-induced apoptosis and ROS production. For in vivo study, we established HIF-1αflox/flox; cadherin-16-cre mice in which tubular HIF-1α was specifically knockout. It was found that tubular HIF-1α knockout significantly inhibited I/R-induced mitophagy, and aggravated I/R-induced tubular apoptosis and kidney damage. In contrast, adenovirus-mediated BNIP3 overexpression significantly reversed the decreased mitophagy, and prevented enhanced kidney damage in tubular HIF-1α knockout mice with I/R injury. In summary, our study demonstrated that HIF-1α-BNIP3-mediated mitophagy in tubular cells plays a protective role through inhibition of apoptosis and ROS production in acute kidney damage.
Glioblastoma (GBM), the most common primary brain tumor in adults, is characterized by low survival rates and a grim prognosis. Current treatment modalities, including extensive surgical resection, ...chemotherapy, and radiation therapy, often yield limited success due to the brain's sensitivity, leading to significant side effects. Exciting advancements in immunotherapy have recently shown promise in treating various types of tumors, raising hopes for improved outcomes in brain tumor patients. One promising immunotherapy approach is chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) T-cell therapy, which recognizes surface proteins on targeted tumor cells and redirects cytotoxicity towards specific targets. This review aims to discuss the existing research and future prospects for CAR T-cell immunotherapy in treating glioblastoma.
