Purpose. To investigate the influence of an alternative organo-mineral fertilization system on the productivity of sugar beet at different application rates of lime. Methods. Short-term field and ...analytical. Results. The results of research on the influence of alternative organo-mineral fertilizers and liming on the alkaline-acidic balance of leached chernozem, its nutritional regime and productivity of sugar beets are presented. The perspective of using traditional and alternative fertilizers combined with lime on weakly acidic soil in conditions of sufficient moisture was revealed. Conclusions. The application of N90P90K90 + 5 t/ha of straw and 7.5 t/ha of defecation sludge in sugar beet ensured the maximum stability of the acid-alkaline balance of leached chernozem, increased the amount of absorbed alkalis with an increase in the content of calcium and magnesium in the soil-absorbing complex. Obtained рНsalt was 6.62, hydrolytic acidity 1.69 mg-eq/100 g, amount of absorbed alkalis 28.4 mg-eq/100 g of soil. Application of N90P90K90 + 5 t/ha of straw and 7.5 t/ha defecation sludge ensured the highest mobility of phosphorus and potassium in leached chernozem: the content of mobile phosphorus in the 0–30 cm layer was 170 mg/kg and potassium 128 mg/kg that provided increase of 32 and 38 mg/kg of soil, respectively, compared to control. Liming increased the mobility of potassium in the soil and did not affect the content of mobile phosphorus. The maximum productivity of sugar beet on leached chernozem was achieved with the application of N90P90K90 + 5 t/ha of straw + 7.5 t/ha of defecation sludge (1.5 standard rate of CaСО3). Obtained root yield was 73.3 t/ha, sugar content 18.6%, and sugar yield 13.6 t/ha that is higher compared to control without fertilizers and defecation sludge by 22.7 t/ha, 0.2%, and 4.3 t/ha, respectively.
A case of angiosarcoma of the skin of the breast is described in a woman 7 years after a primary breast carcinoma was treated by means of lumpectomy and irradiation. On mammograms, the angiosarcoma ...showed redevelopment of skin thickening and increase in breast density. Clinically, the skin showed patchy discoloration. Although there is an established association of angiosarcoma with lymphedema and therapeutic irradiation, there have been few other reports of this rare complication of local therapy for breast carcinoma. Recognition of the mammographic and clinical manifestations may help in the earlier diagnosis of additional cases.
Pregnancy rate is the main factor influencing the productivity and economic efficiency of animal farming. Transfer of bovine cattle embryos is currently one of the most promising methods of ...overcoming the problem in the reproduction sphere. That is why the objective of our research was to identify progesterone concentration in blood serum and size of the corpus luteum in the cows on the day of embryo transfer in order to improve the strategy of selecting recipient animals, and, as a result, increase the conception rate. All animals admitted to the experiment were divided into three groups based on concentration of progesterone in the blood serum, being <2.5 ng/cm3 in the first, 2.5 to 5.0 ng/cm3 in the second, and >5 ng/cm3 in the third group. Progesterone concentrations in the blood serum and sizes of corpora lutea were determined on the day of embryo transfer (7th day after estrus). The animal was considered pregnant according to a positive result of ultrasound examination. Based on the study results, we concluded that measuring the progesterone content in the blood serum and the size of the corpus luteum are not interchangeable. We found that sizes of corpora lutea did not correlate with concentrations of progesterone in the blood serum of the experimental recipient cows. However, the size of the corpus luteum was of significant predictive value for pregnancy rate. We saw that decrease in its diameter below 15 mm, even against the background of high progesterone concentration, was a negative criterion for selection of the recipient animals. Optimal progesterone concentration in blood serum of the experimental animals was within 2.5–5.0 ng/cm3, leading to the highest pregnancy rate in the groups – 46.7. The hormone parameter outside the indicated range led to a significant decline in the pregnancy rate in the recipient animals. Therefore, when selecting recipient cows prior to transfer, both progesterone concentration in the blood serum and the diameter of the corpus luteum should be taken into account, which should not be beyond the proposed ranges. The data presented and analyzed in the article can help improve the efficiency of transfer of bovine cattle embryos for scientific and industrial purposes.

In today's industrial world, aluminium bronzes are often used in machine elements and installations working in the environment of salt water, characterised by abrasive wear, erosion, cavitation, ...oxidation and high corrosion. The alloying elements of cast or plastically worked aluminium bronzes are mainly iron, nickel and manganese. Aluminium bronzes are used for a variety of parts in chemical apparatus and fittings, valve housings, ship pumps, ship propellers and glass matrices. They are also used for special purpose parts made of copper and iron alloys by providing strengthened working surfaces. This article provides information about an investigation into the determination of optimal parameters for the GMA pad-welding of working surfaces of castings in Cu-Al (ASTM B 148 C 95800) aluminium bronze with EnDoTecDO*83 metallic flux-core wire manufactured by Castolin Co.
Using transgenic plants as factories for production of physiologically active human proteins arouses special concern because occasional escape of such transgenes into environment may cause health ...problems. Creation of plant varieties producing pharmaceutically valuable proteins should be accompanied by development of detection methods suitable for controlling the transgene behavior. Here we describe a multiplex PCR protocol for revealing of two human genes (encoding growth hormone and interferon alpha2b) that have been successfully introduced into plant genomes. The primer pair designed for detection of human growth hormone coding sequence amplifies fragments of different size from the full-length gene in the human genome and the intronless coding sequence usually used for plant transformation. Application of this primer pair may be recommended for ruling out false positive results due to sample contamination with human DNA. Such a control may be useful also in PCR analysis during establishing of transgenic plants carrying genes of human origin.
