The Puritans strongly criticised the ecclesiastical authority of the Roman Church, which claimed a monopoly of Scripture interpretation. For the Puritans, every believer, literate or illiterate, ...could read God’s Word for himself, as he would be guided and inspired by the Holy Spirit towards clear discernment. This doctrine of illumination, to which the Puritans subscribed, contributed largely to shaping the orthodoxy of Protestant theology. Nevertheless, the Puritans fell into self-contradiction when censuring the Family of Love whose followers they regarded as non-Christians. This article examines these contradictions, which have been generally neglected by historians, studying the conflicting relationship between Puritans and Familists, and attempting to determine how the latter capitalized on these contradictions in order to counteract their Puritan detractors and to legitimise their faith.
Les puritains ont fortement critiqué l’autorité ecclésiastique de l’Église romaine, qui seule détenait le monopole de l’interprétation des Écritures. Selon les puritains, en effet, tout croyant, ...lettré ou illettré, avait le droit de lire la parole de Dieu par lui-même, puisque le Saint-Esprit était avec lui pour le guider et lui inspirer le bon discernement. Cette doctrine d’illumination a amplement contribué à forger l’orthodoxie de la théologie protestante, à laquelle les puritains devaient se conformer. Toutefois, en critiquant la Famille d’Amour, jusqu’à considérer les adeptes de cette dernière comme étant non chrétiens, les puritains sont tombés en contradiction avec eux-mêmes. Cet article propose une étude de ces contradictions, souvent négligées par les historiens, en analysant la relation conflictuelle entre les puritains et les familistes, et tente de démontrer comment ces derniers ont utilisé ces contradictions pour contrecarrer leurs détracteurs puritains et légitimer leur foi.

La deuxième partie, composée de trois chapitres, étudie l’importance de l’image littéraire chez Bunyan. Le premier chapitre traite de la définition du terme « image » pour dissiper la confusion entre celui-ci et les autres figures du style. Il propose aussi au lecteur un bref historique de l’image littéraire et plastique depuis l’Antiquité jusqu’à l’époque de Bunyan, et des débats théologiques que le mot « image » a suscité. Le deuxième chapitre analyse comment et pourquoi l’auteur s’est servi de l’image comme support pédagogique dans l’édification de ses coreligionnaires. Le troisième chapitre traite des matériaux qu’il utilisa pour construire ces images dans « The Pilgrim’s Progress ». Enfin, la troisième partie analyse en détail deux images bibliques, le chemin et le lion, que Bunyan utilise dans « The Pilgrim’s Progress ». Elle explique les nuances de ces images, leurs origines bibliques, et leur portée théologique, le tout dans le cadre de la foi protestante et puritaine qui était celle de Bunyan.
The Puritans generally forbade imagery and required a strict literal interpretation of the Bible. Bunyan, although a Puritan writer himself, was in favour of spiritual expression and metaphorical understanding of the Biblical text, convinced that this was the style of the Scriptures. This thesis sets out to study this paradox and understand the reason for the Puritans’ fear of literary images, as well as the reason why Bunyan used them, especially in "The Pilgrim’s Progress". The first part analyses the Puritans’ relationship with the Bible. The first chapter discusses their position toward the Established Church and the monarchy. The second chapter analyses the authority of the Bible. The third chapter depicts Bunyan’s scriptural steps before and after his conversion. The second part discusses the importance of imagery to Bunyan. The first chapter attempts to define the word "image" in order to elucidate its meaning, and to distinguish it from other figures of speech. A brief history of literary and artistic imagery from antiquity to Bunyan’s time, and the theological debates about the word "image" through the centuries are also proposed. The second chapter attempts to determine how and why Bunyan used images for the edification of his readers. The third chapter analyses the techniques used to compose "The Pilgrim’s Progress". Finally, the third part discusses in detail two biblical images that Bunyan used in "The Pilgrim's Progress": the Way and the lion. It explains the nuances of these images and their theological content, in the context of Bunyan's Protestant and Puritan beliefs.

Diglycidyl amino benzene (DGAB) epoxy prepolymer was investigated using Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) and nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy. Then, we highlighted the usefulness of DGAB epoxy prepolymer to improve the resistance of carbon steel (CS) in hydrochloric acid (1.0 M HCl) using weight loss (WL), electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS), potentiodynamic polarization (PDP), scanning electron microscope (SEM), atomic force microscopy (AFM), density functional theory (DFT) and complexation calculations, molecular dynamics (MD) and meansquaredisplacement (MSD) simulations. Highest inhibitory efficiencies for the WL, EIS and PDP methods at 10-3 M of DGAB are 90.8, 96.3 and 95.9%, respectively. SEM and AFM micrographs demonstrated that the epoxy prepolymer could effectively block the acid attack by chemisorption on the surface of the carbon steel, the high correlation coefficient and low Standard Deviation (SD) and low Sum of Squares (SS) value gave the best fit for Langmuir isotherm. PDP data suggested that the epoxy prepolymer could provide excellent corrosion performance and showed a mixed-type inhibitor with predominant cathodic effectiveness. Investigate of the inhibitory layer and the potential mechanism was conceptually evaluated using DFT, MD simulations, radial distribution function (RDF) and mean square displacement (MSD).
Abstract
Study Objectives
To investigate sleep patterns in the camel by combining behavioral and polysomnography (PSG) methods.
Methods
A noninvasive PSG study was conducted over four nights on four ...animals. Additionally, video recordings were used to monitor the sleep behaviors associated with different vigilance states.
Results
During the night, short periods of sporadic sleep-like behavior corresponding to a specific posture, sternal recumbency (SR) with the head lying down on the ground, were observed. The PSG results showed rapid shifts between five vigilance states, including wakefulness, drowsiness, rapid eye movement (REM) sleep, non-REM (NREM) sleep, and rumination. The camels typically slept only 1.7 hours per night, subdivided into 0.5 hours of REM sleep and 1.2 hours of NREM sleep. Camels spent most of the night being awake (2.3 hours), ruminating (2.4 hours), or drowsing (1.9 hours). Various combinations of transitions between the different vigilance states were observed, with a notable transition into REM sleep directly from drowsiness (9%) or wakefulness (4%). Behavioral postures were found to correlate with PSG vigilance states, thereby allowing a reliable prediction of the sleep stage based on SR and the head position (erected, motionless, or lying down on the ground). Notably, 100% of REM sleep occurred during the Head Lying Down-SR posture.
Conclusions
The camel is a diurnal species with a polyphasic sleep pattern at night. The best correlation between PSG and ethogram data indicates that sleep duration can be predicted by the behavioral method, provided that drowsiness is considered a part of sleep.
A new derivative aromatic heteroatom epoxy resin synthesized in our laboratory, namely, triglycidyl ether of triethoxy triazine (TGETET), was characterized by FT-IR spectroscopy. Then, the ...rheological properties of TGETET were determined by using HAAKE MARS rheometer. Furthermore, the synthesized derivative aromatic heteroatom epoxy resin was evaluated and investigated as corrosion inhibitor of E24 carbon steel (CS) in 1.0 M HCl solution. In addition, the adsorption mechanisms of (CS/TGETET/1.0 M HCl) were analyzed by gravimetric measurements, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS), ultraviolet-visible spectrophotometry (UV–Vis), scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and theoretical computational studies using DFT and MD simulations. Moreover, the results presented a high dependence of the rheological properties of derivative aromatic heteroatom epoxy resin on frequency, and also, that TGETET has better inhibition performance. A good agreement between the results obtained from theoretical computational (DFT and MD simulations) and experimental methods was observed. The thermodynamic kinetic parameters, showed that the adsorption of the TGETET derivative aromatic heteroatom epoxy resin formed protective layer on E24 carbon steel surface obeyed the Langmuir isotherm model and the adsorption at metal-electrolyte interface involved physisorption.
