The paper identifies and defines augmentative and alternative communication, a new sub-discipline in applied linguistics whose primary parametre is linguistic competence whereas the secondary ...parameter is the phenomenon of speech inability and speech non-occurrence. At the same time it has been proven that linguistics of augmentative and alternative communication conducts primary, applied and implementation research having a hierarchical layout of scientific aims. It also enables to conduct a logopaedic analysis of mute and non-speaking persons. The postulates that govern it are presented in the last part of the text.
Sky survey telescopes and powerful targeted telescopes play complementary roles in astronomy. In order to investigate the nature and characteristics of the motions of very faint objects, a ...flexibly-pointed instrument capable of high astrometric accuracy is an ideal complement to current astrometric surveys and a unique tool for precision astrophysics. Such a space-based mission will push the frontier of precision astrometry from evidence of Earth-mass habitable worlds around the nearest stars, to distant Milky Way objects, and out to the Local Group of galaxies. As we enter the era of the James Webb Space Telescope and the new ground-based, adaptive-optics-enabled giant telescopes, by obtaining these high precision measurements on key objects that Gaia could not reach, a mission that focuses on high precision astrometry science can consolidate our theoretical understanding of the local Universe, enable extrapolation of physical processes to remote redshifts, and derive a much more consistent picture of cosmological evolution and the likely fate of our cosmos. Already several missions have been proposed to address the science case of faint objects in motion using high precision astrometry missions: NEAT proposed for the ESA M3 opportunity, micro-NEAT for the S1 opportunity, and Theia for the M4 and M5 opportunities. Additional new mission configurations adapted with technological innovations could be envisioned to pursue accurate measurements of these extremely small motions. The goal of this White Paper is to address the fundamental science questions that are at stake when we focus on the motions of faint sky objects and to briefly review instrumentation and mission profiles.

The Ca,Eu-α-sialon powders with the mixed solid solution composition have been manufactured via the solid-state reaction process in flowing nitrogen in a graphite furnace at a relatively low temperature of 1650°C without an external overpressure. XRD data with Rielveld refinement and XPS measurements were used for characterization of the lattice constants and the surface chemical composition. The monophase Ca-Eu-α-sialon was obtained with the nominal composition of Eu0.048Ca0.702Si7.75Al2.25O0.75N15.25. The highest emission intensity in a yellow-orange region at 590nm and quantum efficiency of 66% was found for this pure Ca,Eu-α-sialon. Estimation of m,n values from the lattice constant and EDS results showed a small deviation from the nominal composition of designed α-sialon. XPS results demonstrated significant changes of the chemical composition in the oxidized surface of phosphor particles. Possible reasons of emission redshift and relationship between the actual solid solution composition and luminescence properties are discussed in terms of simultaneous presence of Eu2+ and Eu3+ ions in the sialon crystal lattice and residual oxynitride glass.
The paper is a preliminary presentation of the concept of a research project Diachronic Aspects of Polish Logopedic Terminology, carried out by members of the Department of Polish Language of the ...Pedagogical University in Cracow. The multiauthored study briefly characterizes the beginnings of speech therapy as an independent scientific discipline, and the directions of its development in the past 50 years. It draws attention to the deficiencies and inconsistencies in the usage and understanding of specialist terms in contemporary logopedics, while setting as the primary goal of the enterprise an attempt to standardize Polish terminology related to speech disorders. The basis for this should be the etymology of the terms in question, as well as excerpts from medical and anatomical lexicons and source materials which employ the vocabulary that became the foundation of the logopedic jargon.
The South Pole Telescope SPT-3G camera utilizes Ti/Au transition edge sensors (TESs). A key requirement for these sensors is reproducibility and long-term stability of the superconducting (SC) ...transitions. Here, we discuss the impact of electrical contacts design and materials on the shape of the SC transitions. Using scanning electron microscope, atomic force microscope, and optical differential interference contrast microscopy, we observed the presence of unexpected defects of morphological nature on the titanium surface and their evolution in time in proximity to Nb contacts. We found direct correlation between the variations of the morphology and the SC transition shape. Experiments with different diffusion barriers between TES and Nb leads were performed to clarify the origin of this problem. We have demonstrated that the reproducibility of superconducting transitions can be significantly improved by preventing diffusion processes in the TES–leads contact areas.
Context. The Gaia project will determine positions, proper motions, and parallaxes for more than one billion stars in our Galaxy. It is known that Gaia's two telescopes are affected by a small but ...significant variation of the basic angle between them. Unless this variation is taken into account during data processing, e.g. using on-board metrology, it causes systematic errors in the astrometric parameters, in particular a shift of the parallax zero-point. Previously, we suggested an early reduction of Gaia data for the subset of Tycho-2 stars (Tycho-Gaia Astrometric Solution; TGAS). Aims. We aim to investigate whether quasars can be used to independently verify the parallax zero-point already in early data reductions. This is not trivially possible as the observation interval is too short to disentangle parallax and proper motion for the quasar subset. Methods. We repeat TGAS simulations but additionally include simulated Gaia observations of quasars from ground-based surveys. All observations are simulated with basic angle variations. To obtain a full astrometric solution for the quasars in TGAS we explore the use of prior information for their proper motions. Results. It is possible to determine the parallax zero-point for the quasars with a few {\mu}as uncertainty, and it agrees to a similar precision with the zero-point for the Tycho-2 stars. The proposed strategy is robust even for quasars exhibiting significant fictitious proper motion due to a variable source structure, or when the quasar subset is contaminated with stars misidentified as quasars. Conclusions. Using prior information about quasar proper motions we could provide an independent verification of the parallax zero-point in early solutions based on less than one year of Gaia data.
We present htof, an open-source tool for interpreting and fitting the intermediate astrometric data (IAD) from both the 1997 and 2007 reductions of Hipparcos, the scanning-law of Gaia, and future ...missions such as the Nancy Grace Roman Space Telescope (NGRST). htof solves for the astrometric parameters of any system for any arbitrary combination of absolute astrometric missions. In preparation for later Gaia data releases, htof supports arbitrarily high-order astrometric solutions (e.g. five-, seven-, nine-parameter fits). Using htof, we find that the IAD of 6617 sources in Hipparcos 2007 might have been affected by a data corruption issue. htof integrates an ad-hoc correction that reconciles the IAD of these sources with their published catalog solutions. We developed htof to study masses and orbital parameters of sub-stellar companions, and we outline its implementation in one orbit fitting code (orvara, https://github.com/t-brandt/orvara). We use htof to predict a range of hypothetical additional planets in the \(\beta\)~Pic system, which could be detected by coupling NGRST astrometry with Gaia and Hipparcos. htof is pip installable and available at https://github.com/gmbrandt/htof .
