Reactive oxygen species (ROS) function as signaling molecules in several physiologic and pathologic processes. In central nervous system, ROS are critical for differentiation, migration, ...polarization, and neurite growth. These actions are mediated by reversible oxidation of target proteins. On the other hand, PI3K/Akt signaling pathway is susceptible to be modulated by ROS and it has been implicated in neurite growth. In this study, we evaluated the participation of ROS in the neurite growth of cultured rat cerebellar granule neurons (CGN), as well as the possible regulation of the PI3K/Akt pathway by ROS during neurite outgrowth. For this purpose, CGN were treated with cellular or mitochondrial antioxidants, or an NOX inhibitor and neurite growth was evaluated. Moreover, to assess the participation Akt in this process, the p‐Akt levels were measured in CGN treated with antioxidants or a NOX inhibitor. The effect of antioxidants on the neurite growth in the presence of a PI3K inhibitor was also measured. We found that cellular antioxidants and the NOX inhibitor decreased the neurite growth, but not the mitochondrial antioxidant. Interestingly, the antioxidants increased the p‐Akt levels; however, the effect of antioxidants on neurite growth was no dependent on the Akt activity since the inhibitor of PI3K did not modify the antioxidant action on neurite growth. Our results show that the PI3K/Akt pathway participates in neurite growth and that ROS produced by NOX could function as signals in this process; however, this action is not mediated by a redox regulation of Akt activity.
ROS produced by NOX in the cell are released to the extracellular space. ROS can reentry to the ROS‐producing neuron or to the neighbor neuron and promote neurite growth by a redox control of signaling pathway(s) different from Akt. High levels of ROS inhibit Akt activation and promotes neuronal death.
Several motor, sensory, cognitive, and behavioral dysfunctions are associated with neural lesions occurring after a hypoxic injury (HI) in preterm infants. Growth hormone (GH) expression is ...upregulated in several brain areas when exposed to HI conditions, suggesting actions as a local neurotrophic factor. It is known that GH, either exogenous and/or locally expressed, exerts neuroprotective and regenerative actions in cerebellar neurons in response to HI. However, it is still controversial whether GH can cross the blood–brain barrier (BBB), and if its effects are exerted directly or if they are mediated by other neurotrophic factors. Here, we found that in ovo microinjection of Cy3-labeled chicken GH resulted in a wide distribution of fluorescence within several brain areas in the chicken embryo (choroid plexus, cortex, hypothalamus, periventricular areas, hippocampus, and cerebellum) in both normoxic and hypoxic conditions. In the cerebellum, Cy3-GH and GH receptor (GHR) co-localized in the granular and Purkinje layers and in deep cerebellar nuclei under hypoxic conditions, suggesting direct actions. Histological analysis showed that hypoxia provoked a significant modification in the size and organization of cerebellar layers; however, GH administration restored the width of external granular layer (EGL) and molecular layer (ML) and improved the Purkinje and granular neurons survival. Additionally, GH treatment provoked a significant reduction in apoptosis and lipoperoxidation; decreased the mRNA expression of the inflammatory mediators (TNFα, IL-6, IL-1β, and iNOS); and upregulated the expression of several neurotrophic factors (IGF-1, VEGF, and BDNF). Interestingly, we also found an upregulation of cerebellar GH and GHR mRNA expression, which suggests the existence of an endogenous protective mechanism in response to hypoxia. Overall, the results demonstrate that, in the chicken embryo exposed to hypoxia, GH crosses the BBB and reaches the cerebellum, where it exerts antiapoptotic, antioxidative, anti-inflammatory, neuroprotective, and neuroregenerative actions.

= 569) parents, with ages from 22 to 71 years old. This instrument assesses parents’ perceptions of their acceptance and rejection behaviors towards their children. The questionnaire has a 25-item structure in four scales: warmth-affection, hostility/aggression, indifference/neglect and undifferentiated-rejection. Confirmatory factor analysis supported the four-factor model in both samples, however the invariance of the model must be accepted with caution. In addition, an ANOVA test showed statistically significative differences in the four factors between Spanish and Ecuadorian parents. Spain and Ecuador are both Latin countries; however, there are differences between them, which may explain the differences found in this research. Authorities must encourage programs and social services to educate people in parental roles and tasks, besides public policies are needed to support positive parenting, but it is important to define the domains which make this construct.
Introducción: se busca comprender el significado que tiene ser cuidador informal de un paciente en el Hospital Pablo Tobón Uribe de Medellín, durante un periodo de hospitalización, entre los ...años 2012 a 2015. Desarrollo: se parte de un enfoque cualitativo, y se desarrolla el método conocido como Teoría Fundamentada propuesto por Strauss y Corbin. Se entrevistaron 20 cuidadores. Las entrevistas fueron transcritas para luego ser analizadas por medio de codificación abierta y axial, de ahí se definieron, finalmente, tres categorías analíticas. Conclusiones: Cumplir con las tareas que exige ser el cuidador informal de un enfermo implica dividirse en dos ámbitos distintos: mantener el cuerpo al lado del enfermo hospitalizado, mientras que la mente sigue afuera, ocupándose de las otras esferas de la vida; y es que ser cuidador implica tiempo completo y estar hospitalizado con el paciente. El cuidador asume una sobrecarga de responsabilidades que tiene graves implicaciones en su estado de salud, lo que puede compensarse por el compromiso, el apoyo familiar y de la institución de salud. Urge ocuparse de las necesidades del cuidador desde la oferta y el acompañamiento de los sistemas de salud.

El presente estudio corresponde a una investigación cuantitativa realizada en la ciudad de Cuenca, Ecuador, cuyo objetivo fue determinar las prácticas parentales en la función de socialización de la ...familia. Se trabajó con una muestra de 445 padres con hijos en segundo año de educación básica, a quienes se aplicó el cuestionario “Estudio socioeducativo de hábitos y tendencias de comportamiento en familias de niños de segundo año de educación básica” (Torio, 2001). Luego del procesamiento de la información se encontró que: a) El cuidado de los hijos y administración de recursos para el hogar son actividades que los padres realizan de manera conjunta; las actividades escolares y preparación de alimentos recae generalmente en las madres; b) la participación de los padres en los juegos es diferente según el tipo de juego: los padres tienden a involucrarse en juegos que demandan actividad física y las madres en juegos didácticos; c) la verdad, la solidaridad y la responsabilidad son los valores que los padres/madres mencionan transmitir y los que consideran de mayor importancia; d) los besos, abrazos y caricias son estrategias que los padres/madres utilizan para premiar a sus hijos, en tanto que la prohibición de cosas lo utilizan como castigo, en consecuencia los padres/madres cuencanos son más expresivos que instrumentales.
Optimization based on Ant Colony two stages (TS -ac), it represents a way to improve exploration strategy meta-heuristic optimization based on Ant Colony (ACO). TS-ACO, it is based on the methodology ...of "divide and conquer" and its effectiveness has been proven in several discrete optimization problems. In this paper, three approaches to TS-ACO are presented and appropriate adjustments are made to test their effectiveness in solving the problem of Coverage Sets (SCP). These approaches use partial results (only sub solution (S-TS-ACO) or only pheromone trail (P-TS-ACO) or both (PS-TS-ACO)), obtained in the first phase, in order to guide exploration in the second phase of the search process. Experimental results show that the best solutions are achieved by the variant P-TS-ACO. Finally a comparative study of the two-stage strategy and the original ACO strategy was performed. The results show that the proposed P-TS-ACO, you get significantly better results than the original strategy, in the same execution time and under the same parameter values. TS -ACO, se basa en la metodología de "divide y vencerás" y su eficacia ha sido probada en varios problemas discretos de optimización. En este trabajo, se presentan tres enfoques de TS-ACO y se realizan los ajustes pertinentes para probar su eficacia en la solución del Problema de Cubrimiento de Conjuntos (SCP). Estos enfoques utilizan los resultados parciales (sólo sub solución (S-TS-ACO) o sólo rastro de feromonas (P-TS-ACO) o ambos (PS-TS-ACO)), obtenidos en la primera fase, con el fin de guiar la exploración en la segunda fase del proceso de búsqueda. Los resultados experimentales muestran que las mejores soluciones son alcanzadas por la variante P-TS-ACO. Finalmente se realizó un estudio comparativo entre la estrategia en dos etapas y la estrategia original de ACO. Los resultados muestran que la propuesta P-TS-ACO, obtiene resultados significativamente mejores que la estrategia original, en el mismo tiempo de ejecución y bajo los mismos valores de los parámetros. El objetivo de la investigacion fue determinar la percepcion del rol y desempeño que como psicologos educativos desarrollan en los denominados Departamentos de Orientacion y Bienestar Estudiantil, de ...la provincia del Azuay. Esta, permitio recoger datos durante el año 2014 sobre: tecnicas psicologicas, instrumentos y proceso de evaluacion psicologica, manejo de la entrevista, analisis de las unidades de orientacion, aplicacion de los codigos de convivencia, proyectos de intervencion y tutorias de rendimiento academico en el año anterior.
La investigacion fue esencialmente descriptiva y retrospectiva. Se aplica una encuesta de desempeño profesional y factores demograficos a 80 psicologos educativos de la provincia del Azuay de 79 instituciones; 54 fiscales y 25 particulares. En relacion al uso de tecnicas psicologicas se encuentra que los mayores porcentajes se centran en los tests, seguidos de entrevistas; en los procesos se destaca el seguimiento del estudio de caso. En el uso de la entrevista la mayoria utiliza entrevistas estructuradas seguido de la semi-estructuradas y escasamente la libre. Las unidades de orientacion que se programaron con mas frecuencia fueron: consumo de drogas, cuidado integral y educacion sexual. En cuanto a la aplicacion de los codigos de convivencia, la mayoria señala conocer el codigo de convivencia de su institucion, y desde su perspectiva consideran que los docentes en su relacion con estudiantes a traves del codigo han sido muy favorable. En cuanto a los proyectos de intervencion, si bien estan relacionados numericamente con el analisis de unidades de orientacion se describen 43 tipos de proyectos distribuidos en 10 categorias. En las tutorias de rendimiento academico se concluye que la mayoria de los psicologos conocen a detalle el Plan de Accion Tutorial ya cerca de un cuartil de psicologos reporta que no se elabora el Plan de accion Tutorial con los docentes.
Entre las principales conclusiones se establece que el rol (deber ser) y el desempeñado (ser) a la luz del analisis de la encuesta, la brecha existente fluctua entre uno a dos cuartiles; es decir, los procesos que se esperan tanto del rol que se establece en normativas, al igual que la utilizacion del conjunto de herramientas y estrategias que debe consolidar el psicologo en su formacion profesional, distaron de manera fluctuante (de 1 a 2 cuartiles) dependiendo de las tematicas investigadas.
Se caracteriza las estrategias de afrontamiento que presentan 278 estudiantes, de 10 a 15 años, víctimas de acoso escolar y cyberbullying. La investigación es cuantitativa, con alcance ...descriptivo-relacional, haciendo uso de la escala Brief COPE. La data reportó que los estudiantes víctimas usaron pocas veces estrategias de primera dimensión, centradas en la resolución del problema y búsqueda de apoyo social.
