Evidence in the literature regarding the impact of radio in fuelling crises is conflicting. This study extends existing argument by testing the moderating effect of accountability partners in the ...relationship between Radio Biafra and participation in the activities of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB). Results from a sample of 470 participants showed that accountability partners contribute 35% in predicting participation in IPOB activities while Radio Biafra contributes 32%. Additional results showed that online accountability partners contribute more (23%) than offline (12%). Additional finding implies that licenced media like radio, TV and newspaper could be unintentionally promoting IPOB activities in South-East Nigeria.
We aimed to examine the impact of social media-based psychodrama therapy in reducing postpartum depression symptoms in first-time mothers. We conducted this study using a quasi-experiment with the ...use of pretest, posttest and follow-up evaluation after six months. We found a significant main effect of social media-based psychodrama therapy in reducing symptoms of postpartum depression in women F(1,503)= 713.413, p = 0.001, eta squared .441. We also found that this relationship is moderated by spousal support like physical, emotional and social support. Additionally, our results showed that first-time mothers experience PPD symptoms after childbirth more than experienced mothers. We equally found that psychodrama contributed in reducing symptoms of PPD in experienced mothers more than in first-time mothers. The implication of our result is that first-time mothers require more attention to assist them to recover from PPD symptoms than their experienced counterparts.
The study sought to test the efficacy of TV reality shows like Big Brother Naija in disseminating agricultural information to youths to influence their intention to engage in agriculture. A ...quasi-experimental research design was used to carry out this study, while a structured questionnaire was used to collect data. The result showed that youths exposed to TV reality show content with agricultural messages embedded in them reported more intention to engage in agriculture than those who were not. A follow-up evaluation after 12 months revealed that the improvement was consistent.
The watchdog role of journalists represents an oversight function that can curb corruption. Unfortunately, in many countries, the watchdog role is not accepted by some journalists. Existing ...literature has highlighted the role perception of the journalist and the structure of media work as determinants of the journalist’s acceptance of the watchdog role. This article investigates Nigerian journalists’ perception and performance of the watchdog functions. Based on a national survey of journalists in Nigeria, the article finds that there is a negative perception of the watchdog doctrine among Nigerian journalists, as the majority of them do not believe in the primacy of the watchdog role. The article concludes that, the extent of performing watchdog function is significantly dependent on the journalists’ perception of the watchdog role as an investigative tool in news reporting, and recommends that the journalists be trained on investigative reporting skills to play the watchdog role in Nigeria.
