We present a measurement of the helicity of the W boson produced in top quark decays using ttbar decays in the l+jets and dilepton final states selected from a sample of 5.4 fb^-1 of collisions ...recorded using the D0 detector at the Fermilab Tevatron ppbar collider. We measure the fractions of longitudinal and right-handed W bosons to be f_0 = 0.669 +- 0.102 +- 0.078 (stat.) +- 0.065 (syst.) and f_+ = 0.023 +- 0.053 +- 0.041 (stat.) +- 0.034 (syst.), respectively. This result is consistent at the 98% level with the standard model. A measurement with f_0 fixed to the value from the standard model yields f_+ = 0.010 +- 0.037 +- 0.022 (stat.) +- 0.030 (syst.) .
Managing care for patients with chronic conditions currently represents one of the greatest challenges to health care systems. As a subgroup of these patients, those with multiple chronic conditions ...are at greater risk for death or disability, and they consume more resources. They are characterized by the coexistence of two or more chronic illnesses lasting a year or longer which require ongoing medical attention and/or interfere with their daily activities. For these polypathological patients pharmaceutical care would be of special benefit, thus, their needs should be a priority objective for hospital pharmacy.
To increase awareness of this type of patients and the characteristics of the principal approaches and health care models proposed to improve chronic disease management, as well as to emphasize the urgency for hospital pharmacists to join these models, and to present various activities that pharmacists might carry out as an integral part of these approaches.
Numerous models exist internationally, including the Chronic Care Model and the Kaiser Permanente pyramid of risks. In our country a growing number of initiatives has culminated in the recent Seville Declaration. For the hospital pharmacy, caring for the chronically ill patient following a model that is multi-professional, cooperative, integral, and patient centered, is an enormous task. Pharmacy departments and the Spanish Society of Hospital Pharmacy should reorient their strategies for pharmaceutical care, training, and research. Of special interest are those activities designed to improve adherence, adequacy, and continuity in treatments, all the while emphasizing active patient participation.
We present a search for the pair production of scalar top quarks (\(\tilde{t}_{1}\)), the lightest supersymmetric partners of the top quarks, in \(p\bar{p}\) collisions at a center-of-mass energy of ...1.96 TeV, using data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of {7.3 \(fb^{-1}\)} collected with the \dzero experiment at the Fermilab Tevatron Collider. Each scalar top quark is assumed to decay into a \(b\) quark, a charged lepton, and a scalar neutrino (\(\tilde{\nu}\)). We investigate final states arising from \(\tilde{t}_{1} \bar{\tilde{t}_{1}} \rightarrow b\bar{b}\mu\tau \tilde{\nu} \tilde{\nu}\) and \(\tilde{t}_{1} \bar{\tilde{t}_{1}} \rightarrow b\bar{b}\tau\tau \tilde{\nu} \tilde{\nu}\). With no significant excess of events observed above the background expected from the standard model, we set exclusion limits on this production process in the (\(m_{\tilde{t}_{1}}\),\(m_{\tilde{\nu}}\)) plane.
The genus Patagonotothen is the most common Nototheniid on the Patagonian Shelf and slope and is part of the by-catch species in the bottom trawl fisheries. This paper presents preliminary results ...from the EC CRAFT project “Promoting higher added value to a finfish species rejected to sea”, aiming to develop the research and the technology necessary to promote higher added value to fishing activity by taking profit from a finfish species (Rockcod, Patagonotothen spp.) not known to consumers and currently discarded by the EU fishing fleet operating in the South West Atlantic in order to supply the EU seafood industry with a good quality raw material for human food manufacturing. Historical fishery data series (26 168 commercial hauls of which 12 745 were positive), including effort, catches and discards, as well as biological and environmental information, from 1988 onwards was used to describe and quantify patterns and spatio-temporal changes in the rockcod fishery. These data was collected by scientific observers on board commercial vessels.GIS analysis was carried out in order to study the seasonal geographical changes in the distribution of abundance, SST and densities calculated from CPUE. Fishery and environmental data as well as SST data derived from the NOAA Advanced Very High Resolution Radiometer (AVHRR), were analysed in order to find monthly variations in spatial and depth distribution of Patagonotothen spp. Preliminary results demonstrated that, within areas of occurrence, there are significant correlations between fish abundance (CPUE), the oceanographic conditions of the area (SST gradients) and depth in certain months.

The fishing grounds of the Patagonian Shelf support some of the most important fisheries in the world. The great abundance of marine resources among parallels 35º and 54º South, is associated with ...the Subtropical Convergence formed by the Brazil and Falkland/Malvinas currents. The mixing of the flow of La Plata River and the western branch of the Falkland/Malvinas Current generates areas of high plankton production on the shelf. Hakes (Merluccius hubbsi and Merluccius australis) and cephalopods (Illex argentinus and Loligo gahi) have been found the main commercial species, with important amounts of accompanying species in the catches such as Patagonian toothfish (Dissostichus eleginoides), Kingclip (Genypterus blacodes), Hoki (Macruronus magellanicus), Red cod (Salilota australis), Southern blue whiting (Micromesistius australis), etc. These fisheries are currently among the most important to the Spanish bottom trawler freezing fleet that has around 40 vessels fishing in this area, besides another 20 that operate in joint ventures sailing Falkland flag. It is estimated that this fleet generates approximately 2,000 direct offshore jobs, and more than 10,000 indirect onshore jobs. This paper presents results from the EC Study Project 99/016 “Data collection for stock assessment of two hakes (Merluccius hubbsi and M. australis) in international and Falkland waters of the SW Atlantic”. Historical fishery and biological data series available from the Instituto Español de Oceanografía (IEO) and the Falkland Islands Fishery Department (FIFD) were used during the project to describe fishing patterns and spatio-temporal changes in the abundance and distribution of target and accompanying species, as well as to give an overview of these important fisheries.
We describe 2 women with features of autoimmune cholangitis. Serum biochemical studies showed cholestasis and increased immunoglobulin M with negative antimitochondrial antibodies. Markers of ...hepatitis B and C viruses were absent. Both had positive antinuclear antibodies. One had a speckled pattern (multiple nuclear dots) and the other a perinuclear pattern (pore nuclear). In the first case anti-Sp100 was positive by EIA and in the second anti-Gp210 was detected by immunoblot. Diagnosis of primary biliary cirrhosis was made and the patients were treated with UDCA. Current knowledge indicates that determination of anti-Sp100 and anti-Gp210 substantially improves diagnosis of primary biliary cirrhosis as these ANA are highly specific for this disease. These autoantibodies may lead to the classification of different groups of patient included in autoimmune cholangitis. All patients with autoimmune cholangitis should be tested for anti-Sp100 and anti-Gp210.
This is a prospective and randomized study of 100 patients with acute appendicitis who were less than 10 years old, in which four different antibiotic regimens commonly in use against gram-negative ...and anaerobic bacteria were compared in terms of postoperative septic complications. The antibiotics were begun immediately preoperatively and continued for five days. Ten percent of the patients developed infection complications, with 4% requiring further surgery. The best results were obtained with cefoxitin (4% of infection), metronidazole plus amikacin and latamoxef (8%), while the regimen of clindamycin plus amikacin was associated with the greatest number of complications (20%). On analyzing the main microbiologic findings of the study, we conclude that some sort of antibiotic treatment is indicated in all types of appendicitis, due to the occult presence of bacteria in the peritoneal cavity, even without clinical evidence of gangrene or perforation. Further, we emphasize the significance of Streptococcus faecalis as being responsible, along with Escherichia coli and Bacteroides fragilis, for serious postoperative complications.
We measure the top quark mass (mt) in ppbar collisions at a center of mass energy of 1.96 TeV using dilepton ttbar->W+bW-bbar->l+nubl-nubarbbar events, where l denotes an electron, a muon, or a tau ...that decays leptonically. The data correspond to an integrated luminosity of 5.4 fb-1 collected with the D0 detector at the Fermilab Tevatron Collider. We obtain mt = 174.0 +- 1.8(stat) +- 2.4(syst) GeV, which is in agreement with the current world average mt = 173.3 +- 1.1 GeV. This is currently the most precise measurement of mt in the dilepton channel.
