Pleomorphic hyalinizing angiectatic tumor (PHAT) is a rare low-grade malignant mesenchymal neoplasm. It commonly occurs in the limbs and trunk, with limited occurrences in the head and neck region. ...Only five cases of PHAT occurring in the head and neck have been reported in the literature to date. The etiology of PHAT remains unclear. We described a case of nasal cavity PHAT following CARE guidelines.
A 32-year-old male with PHAT originating in the nasal cavity recurred after two surgeries. Adjuvant radiotherapy was performed after the third surgery. The patient has been regularly followed up for 36months, and no tumor recurrence or metastasis has been observed.
PHAT is a rare soft tissue tumor known for its local aggressiveness. Because of a high risk of recurrence, extensive resection should be implemented, possibly completed by radiotherapy if resection cannot be complete because of proximity to at-risk structures.
The purpose of this study was to evaluate the outcomes of younger and older patients with palatal cancer undergoing reconstruction using the pedicled facial-submental artery island flap (FSAIF) ...following cancer ablation. Fifty-eight patients with palatal squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) were divided into two age groups: ≤60 years (n=31) and >60 years (n=27). By clinical SCC stage, 6.4%, 83.9%, and 9.7% of the younger group and 3.7%, 85.2%, and 11.1% of the older group were stage I, II, and III, respectively. The incidence of comorbid conditions was 35.5% (11/31) in those ≤60 years and 137.0% (37/27) in those >60 years. Brown class II maxillary defects (four class IIa, 44 class IIb, three class IIc, and seven class IId) were repaired using FSAIFs following cancer ablation. There were two flap failures; thus the success rate was 96.6%. Significant differences in mean age and the incidence of comorbid conditions were evident between the groups. No significant differences in TNM stage, maxillary defect classification, flap size, overall flap survival, rates of local and general complications, or survival status was evident between the groups. The FSAIF is a reliable and safe method for repairing Brown class II maxillary defects following cancer ablation, particularly in older patients.
Purpose: Teaching is a tough and stressful profession. Teachers' pressure and job burnout have become a common and serious problem, which makes teachers' subjective well-being feel a serious impact. ...The kindergarten environment is challenging and unique. The educational objects faced by kindergarten teachers are usually immature, which brings challenges to the teaching of kindergarten teachers. At the same time, in China, kindergarten teachers also need to undertake daily administrative management and other tasks. Therefore, focusing on the subjective well-being of kindergarten teachers in developing countries during the stage of the COVID-19 pandemic has important implications for promoting teacher well-being globally. Patients and Methods: The study included 321 kindergarten teachers from 13 kindergartens in Jinan, Shandong Province, China. A cross-sectional study design was used with a cluster random sampling technique. For the present study, Five-Factor Mindfulness Questionnaire, Emotional Intelligence Scale, Work-Family Balance Scale and Subjective Well-being Scale were utilized. Results: Findings of the study show that trait mindfulness can directly predict subjective well-being. Emotional intelligence played a mediating role in the relationship between trait mindfulness and subjective well-being. Work-family balance played a mediating role between trait mindfulness and subjective well-being. Emotional intelligence and work-family balance play a sequential mediating effect between trait mindfulness and subjective well-being. Conclusion: This study explores the influence mechanism of trait mindfulness on kindergarten teachers' subjective well- being from the perspective of metacognition. An important conclusion of this study is that emotional intelligence and work-family balance play a sequential mediating effect between trait mindfulness and subjective well-being. We believe the findings of this study have important implications for enriching existing theory and educational practice. This finding has important implications for improving the subjective well-being of kindergarten teachers in developing countries, especially in the context of the current severe impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on education systems. Keywords: trait mindfulness, emotional intelligence, work-family balance, subjective well-being, kindergarten teacher
To investigate the value of clinical application of simultaneous amplification and testing of RNA (SAT-RNA) for detecting
(CT) and
(UU) by comparing with the polymerase chain reaction testing of DNA ...(PCR-DNA) method.
Specimens from both urethra swab and the first avoid urine which should be at least one hour after the previous urination were collected from 163 men who were scheduled for
fertilization and embryo transfer (IVF-ET) treatment due to female factors at Center for Reproductive Medicine, Shengjing Hospital of China Medical University during the period of April 2016 to April 2017. Among the 163 men, 109 simultaneously provided semen that was collected after 3-7 days of sexual abstinence for the testing. Urine and semen specimens were detected for CT and UU with SAT-RNA, while urethra swab specimens were detected for CT and UU with standard PCR-DNA. Detection results of the SAT-RNA were compared with those of the PCR-DNA method.
The positive rate of UU in the urethra swab detected with PCR-DNA and that
The Ca(2+) channel-binding domain 3 (CBD3) peptide, derived from the collapsin response mediator protein 2 (CRMP-2), is a recently discovered voltage-gated Ca(2+) channel (VGCC) blocker with a ...preference for CaV2.2. Rodent administration of CBD3 conjugated to cell penetrating motif TAT (TAT-CBD3) has been shown to reduce pain behavior in inflammatory and neuropathic pain models. However, TAT-CBD3 analgesia has limitations, including short half-life, lack of cellular specificity and undesired potential off-site effects. We hypothesized that these issues could be addressed by expressing CBD3 encoded by high-expression vectors in primary sensory neurons. We constructed an adeno-associated viral (AAV) vector expressing recombinant fluorescent CBD3 peptide and injected it into lumbar dorsal root ganglia (DRGs) of rats before spared nerve injury (SNI). We show that selective expression of enhanced green fluorescent protein (EGFP)-CBD3 in lumbar 4 (L4) and L5 DRG neurons and their axonal projections results in effective attenuation of nerve injury-induced neuropathic pain in the SNI model. We conclude that AAV-encoded CBD3 delivered to peripheral sensory neurons through DRG injection may be a valuable approach for exploring the role of presynaptic VGCCs and long-term modulation of neurotransmission, and may also be considered for development as a gene therapy strategy to treat chronic neuropathic pain.
Septal reduction therapies, which include septal myectomy and alcohol septal ablation and so on, are the current treatment strategies for patients with obstructive hypertrophic cardiomyopathy and ...drug-refractory symptoms. With the deepening of theoretical understanding and the rapid development of interventional therapies, some researchers have tried to perform transcatheter mitral valve edge-to-edge repair to treat high-risk patients with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, including obstructive and non-obstructive. The reported results are relatively satisfactory, but many urgent problems need to be solved, such as the lack of data on animal experiments and large cohort studies, and the unknown medium- and long-term outcomes. However, transcatheter mitral valve edge-to-edge repair brings new ideas for the diagnosis and treatment of patients with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy. On one hand, it can be used as a monotherapy, on the other hand, it can be combined with novel molecular targeted drug therapy or emerging min
To evaluate the feasibility and safety of transcatheter tricuspid valve edge-to-edge repair guided by only transesophageal echocardiography (TEE).
Patients with severe tricuspid regurgitation in ...Fuwai Yunnan Cardiovascular Hospital who met the inclusion criteria based on clinical and echocardiographic evaluationand underwent transcatheter tricuspid valve edge-to-edge repair between January 2022 and May 2023 were prospectively enrolled. The procedure was performed under general anesthesia with endotracheal intubation and solely guided by TEE. The patients underwent clinical evaluation, electrocardiogram and transthoracic echocardiography one month after the procedure.
A total of 22 patients (12 males and 10 females) were included, with an average age of (71.3±6.7) years. All 22 patients successfully underwent the transcatheter tricuspid valve edge-to-edge repair under TEE guidance, with an average of (1.5±0.6) clips implanted. Immediately after procedure, six patients had no or trace regurgitation, 15 patients
The present study found that the fifth epidermal growth factor-like domain of thrombomodulin (TME5) possesses the cytoprotective function in association with an increase in levels of anti-apoptotic ...myeloid cell leukemia-1 protein in an activated protein C-independent manner in human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVECs). Importantly, TME5 counteracted calcineurin inhibitor-induced vascular permeability and successfully prevented monocrotaline-induced sinusoidal obstruction syndrome (SOS) in a murine model. Taken together, TME5 may be useful for preventing or treating lethal complications that develop after hematopoietic stem cell transplantation such as SOS and thrombotic microangiopathy in which endothelial cell damage has a role.
