O artigo lida com a abordagem de Boaventura de Souza Santos a respeito do debate entre reco- nhecimento e redistribuição. Tendo em vista a ideia de Nuestra América, do cubano José Martí e a metáfora ...shakespeariana de Ariel, Santos elabora o que denomina paradigma subalterno de reconhecimento (diferença) e redistribuição (igualdade), fundado em uma epistemologia do sul que ele contrapõe ao chamado paradigma americano-europeu, cuja expressão é a globalização neoliberal. Ele argumenta, então, que é preciso enfrentar esse paradigma da globalização dominan- te com um paradigma contra-hegemônico de globalização.
Abstract
AIM: Our aim was to progress in bringing molecular medicine to routine clinical practice in the setting of paediatric neuro-oncology. We have implemented a protocol between Ipatimup and ...Centro Hospitalar Universitário de São João for the rapid and efficient delivery of the molecular portrait of paediatric brain tumours. MATERIAL AND METHODS: We have enrolled 92 patients with the following inclusion criteria: Age 0-18 years; newly diagnosed brain tumour; previously diagnosed brain tumour, whenever it presented as rare, aggressive or refractory disease; availability of tumour material; signed informed consent. Tumour samples were centrally reviewed by expert pathologists and profiled using the Oncomine Childhood Cancer Research Assay. RESULTS: In the 92 tumours that were molecularly profiled, BRAF was the most frequently altered gene, especially in pilocytic astrocytomas, being also detected in other LGG and HGG. Other commonly mutated genes were PIK3CA and FGFR, the former in HGG and the latter in LGG. MYB and RAF1 rearrangements were also found in low grade glial/glioneuronal tumours, while HGG showed a more complex profile, with many cases harbouring multiple alterations in EGFR, PDGFRA, ATRX, H3F3A, HIST1H3B, TP53, among others. A 16-year old patient with CMMR (homozygous mutation in PMS2) developed a glioblastoma that carried nearly 5x the average number of mutations. Among the 8 medulloblastomas, 2 showed mutations in the SHH pathway (1 in PTCH1 and one in SUFU) and 2 in the WNT pathway (1 in CTNNB1 and one in APC). In the remaining cases, one ependymoma presented MYCN amplification, while no alterations were detected in 3 patients. CONCLUSIONS: This study enabled the detailed molecular study of 92 paediatric brain patients, allowing a more robust tumour classification and the identification of actionable alterations. A subset of the patients are already undergoing targeted therapy, mainly using BRAF or MEK inhibitors with generally good improvement.
Este artigo discute a relevância contemporânea do conceito de “reformas revolucionárias”, elaborado por André Gorz na década de 1960 e por ele retomado em seus escritos mais recentes. Minha tese aqui ...é que tal conceito continua atual e tem sido apropriado, direta ou indiretamente, por outros teóricos sociais contemporâneos, ainda que, muitas vezes, esses últimos utilizem uma linguagem diferente. Para tanto, começo por apresentar, em linhas gerais, os contornos do conceito. Em seguida, mostro como ele foi utilizado por Gorz ao longo de seus escritos; e, por fim, eu o discuto a partir dos trabalhos de outros autores, focando em alguns temas dos debates contemporâneos.
Network function virtualization (NFV) is a novel technology that virtualizes computing, network, and storage resources to decouple the network functions from the underlying hardware, thus allowing ...the software implementation of such functions to run on commodity hardware. By doing this, NFV provides the necessary flexibility to enable agile, cost-effective, and on-demand service delivery models combined with automated management. Different management and orchestration challenges arise in such virtualized and distributed environments. A major challenge in the selection of the most suitable edge nodes is that of deploying virtual network functions (VNFs) to meet requests from multiple users. This article addresses the VNF placement problem by providing a novel integer linear programming (ILP) optimization model and a novel VNF placement algorithm. In our definition, the multi-objective optimization problem aims to (i) minimize the energy consumption in the edge nodes; (ii) minimize the total latency; and (iii) reducing the total cost of the infrastructure. Our new solution formulates the VNF placement problem by taking these three objectives into account simultaneously. In addition, the novel VNF placement algorithm leverages VNF sharing, which reuses VNF instances already placed to potentially reduce computational resource usage. Such a feature is still little explored in the community. Through simulation, numerical results show that our approach can perform better than other approaches found in the literature regarding resource consumption and the number of SFC requests met.

Abstract Background The trans-lamina terminalis (TLT) approach to the suprasellar region and third ventricle is complex, with risks of visual and hormonal deficits. However, the postoperative ...deficits might not be directly related to opening of the lamina terminalis but to the close relationship of tumours with vital neural and vascular structures. The analysis of results using this approach was the objective of this study. Material and methods The TLT approach was used in 29 patients (18 craniopharyngiomas, 5 astrocytomas, 5 germinomas and 1 ganglioglioma). The extent of tumour removal, mortality and morbidity (especially visual or hormonal deficits) were studied. Results Complete tumour removal was achieved in 15 patients, subtotal extensive removal (more than 90%) in 9 cases and partial removal in 5 cases. Panhypopituitarism developed in 22 patients. Total tumour removal was associated with the development of endocrinological disturbances. There was worsening or the onset of new visual field defects in 4 cases. Postoperative endocrine and visual deficits were in the range generally described regarding surgery for tumours in this region. Conclusion The TLT approach allows for extensive removal of third ventricle and suprasellar tumours, without increased risks of visual and hormonal deficits, compared to those described regarding surgery for lesions in this region.

This phenomenon starts in the first hours of the night, at latitudes near the geomagnetic equator. Scintillation occurs when radio signals cross ionospheric irregularities, also known as plasma bubbles. These plasma bubble structures are generated after the sunset due to instabilities in the

region of ionosphere. Distributions with non-single parameter usually present better results, however, this point requires further investigation by comparing different models. The goals of this study are: (1) the modeling of experimental data using the
κ

μ
distribution; (2) the
κ

μ
parameters characterization for empirical data and the evaluation of parameters estimation based in different approaches; (3) the comparison between the distribution proposed and other models adopted in the literature in order to verify the performance of two parameter models. The results of the analysis performed showed that the

distribution presents good fitting of the empirical scintillation data. These fitting results were calculated through the chi-square fit test under which the values reveal fair

A morte de André Gorz completa dez anos em 22 de setembro de 2017. Importante intelectual de esquerda da segunda metade do século XX e início de século XXI, Gorz é autor de duas dezenas de livros e ...de uma grande quantidade de artigos e entrevistas, com destacada contribuição em diferentes áreas do conhecimento, como sociologia do trabalho e ecologia política. Após sua morte em 2007, seus escritos têm sido objeto de crescente atenção, como atestam os diversos livros e artigos publicados nos últimos anos a seu respeito. Por isso, o presente dossiê pode ser interpretado tanto como uma homenagem a Gorz quanto como uma interlocução qualificada com sua obra. Ao interpelá-la criticamente, as sete contribuições que formam este dossiê também contribuem para colocar a obra de Gorz no centro das discussões teóricas e políticas em ciências sociais e, sobretudo, em teoria social crítica. Com diversos livros publicados no Brasil, Gorz é, há bastante tempo, uma figura conhecida entre nós. No entanto, o interesse por seus escritos, não só no Brasil, aumentou bastante após sua morte por suicídio em 2007. Desde então, presenciamos a produção de uma grande quantidade de textos - livros, coletâneas, artigos e entrevistas - que comentam sua obra ou algum aspecto dela. Destaco aqui alguns artigos na forma de obituário que vieram a público logo após o passamento de André Gorz e o de sua mulher Dorine. Destaco também dois dossiês publicados no Brasil, um na revista IHU On-line, ainda em 2007, e outro na revista Tempo Social, em 2009. Entre os muitos livros sobre Gorz publicados após sua morte, destaco duas coletâneas, André Gorz: um penseur pour le XXIe siècle (2009) e Sortir du capitalisme: le scénario Gorz (2013), que abordam diversos aspectos de sua obra e uma importante biografia intelectual, André Gorz, une vie (2016), que reconstrói toda sua trajetória intelectual e pessoal. Trata-se, portanto, de um conjunto de textos que abordam diversos aspectos da vida e da obra de Gorz: sua história de vida desde a infância, incluindo as mudanças de nome, a carreira como jornalista, o perfil de um intelectual existencial-marxista e filósofo autodidata, as influências intelectuais de Jean-Paul Sartre, Karl Marx e Ivan Illich em sua obra, assim como os diversos temas dos quais Gorz se ocupou em sua extensa produção intelectual.
