The main goal of the research was to examine the correlation between personality traits (conscientiousness and neuroticism), perfectionistic strivings and concerns, and achievement motives (hope of ...success and fear of failure). In this research, 348 respondents (111 women, 237 men) from Serbia, Montenegro, Bosnia and Herzegovina, aged 16 to 54 years, filled out the questionnaires. Personality traits were measured by the Big Five plus 2 (VP + 2) questionnaire. The Sport Multidimensional Perfectionism Scale 2 (Sport-MPS 2) and the Multidimensional Inventory of Perfectionism in Sports (MIPS) were used for measuring perfectionism, while the revised version of the Achievement Motivation Scale (AMS-R) was used for motivational strategies determination. The relations were investigated with the method of structural equations. The theoretical model showed satisfactory concordance with the empirical data (RMSEA = .021, SRMR = .019, CFI = .999, TLI = .996). The model predicts the mediating effect of perfectionistic strivings on the relationship between conscientiousness and hope of success, as well as neuroticism and hope of success, and the mediating effect of perfectionistic concerns on the relationship between neuroticism and fear of failure.
In youth sport, coach and teammates have a relevant role in an athlete’s development as a player. They can create a task or ego-involving motivational climate, and directly influence athlete’s ...affective, cognitive, and behavioral outcomes. The purpose of this research is to examine the effects of motivational climate created by coach and teammates on the satisfaction of basic psychological needs in sport of young female athletes. The sample consisted of 192 young Serbian female athletes from collective sports (handball, volleyball, and basketball) with an average age of 13.6 years. They filled out Peer Motivational Climate in Youth Sport Questionnaire – MCYSQ (Ntoumanis & Vazou, 2005), Perceived Motivational Climate in Sport Questionnaire – 2 – PMCSQ-2 (Newton, Duda & Yin, 2000), and the Basic Need Satisfaction in Sport Scale (BNSSS, Ng, Losdale, & Hodge, 2011). Results of regression analysis showed that motivational climate created by coach and teammates represent significant predictors of the basic psychological needs: need for relatedness (35.5% of variance), need for competence (21.9% of variance), and need for autonomy – choice (10.5% of variance). Perceived task-involving motivational climate created by coach and teammates singled out as statistically significant predictors of need for relatedness and competence, while task-involving motivational climate created by teammates singled out as significant predictor of need for autonomy. Athletes who perceive coach’s and teammate’s behavior as task-involving, will have more satisfied basic psychological needs. Understanding the factors that facilitate basic needs contribute to prevention of dropping out of sports in adolescence, and athlete’s motivation and achievement.
Background/Aim. When it comes to anesthesia, patient satisfaction (PS) is more difficult to assess than in any other medical specialty. The aim of this study was to construct a tool for assessing PS ...with anesthesia and then examine the effects of postoperative care provided by anesthesiologists on PS. Methods. The study included patients undergoing general anesthesia due to the reconstruction of the anterior cruciate knee ligament who were considered the American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA) 1 and ASA 2 classes. Patients were divided into three groups: group 1 included 74 patients who had a postoperative visit performed by an attending anesthesiologist; group 2 included 70 patients who had a postoperative visit performed by a nurse anesthetist after surgery; group 3 included 74 patients who did not have postoperative visit during postoperative care by an anesthesiologist nor a nurse anesthetist. The tools used in the research were the Anesthesia Patient Satisfaction questionnaire specially designed for this study and the Post Anesthetic Recovery Scoring System (PAS). ANOVA and Pearson?s correlation coefficient were used to estimate the statistical significance of the obtained results between the groups. Results. Association between an objective assessment of the postoperative status of patients on day zero and satisfaction with the anesthesiologist?s patient management showed statistical significance (p < 0.05). Patients who had a postoperative visit by an anesthesiologist tolerated better preoperative and postoperative physical symptoms. Patients visited by an anesthesiologist were most satisfied with postoperative care (p < 0.05). Conclusion. The use of a highly reliable questionnaire for the evaluation of PS with anesthesia could improve the postoperative condition of patients and enable faster recovery during the postoperative period.
The aim of the research was to test the hierarchical model of intrinsic and extrinsic
motivation (HMIEM) as a model for understanding the process of dropping out of
sports in adolescence. The task ...oriented motivational climate created by a coach
was defined as the social factor, whereas the satisfaction of need for
competence and enjoyment were the psychological mediators of amotivation.
Cognitive outcome was defined as the intention to drop out of sports. The
sample consisted of 383 respondents, 49.9% boys and 50.1% girls from Serbia,
average age 13.74 years, who actively played volleyball, basketball, and
handball. Results of the structural modelling equation analysis confirmed that
the HMIEM represented a good model for understanding the process of dropping
out, and that it explained 18.9% of the intention to drop out of sports in
adolescence. Athletes who perceive their coach’s behaviour as non-supportive,
rigid, primarily focused on achievement, will have sense of incompetence and will
lack enjoyment while doing sport. Unsatisfied needs then lead to the development
of amotivation – the lack of reasons to do sports, and to the intention to drop
out of sports. These results represent a further step towards creating
educational programmes for youth sport that might prevent dropping out of sport
in adolescence.
Vršnjački konflikti i način njihovog rešavanja zauzimaju centralno mesto u vršnjačkim odnosima adolescenata. Strategije koje se koriste za rešavanje konflikata značajno oblikuju vršnjačke odnose i ...ostvaruju važan uticaj na socijalno i emocionalno funkcionisanje adolescenta.Predmet ovog istraživanja predstavlja ispitivanje značaja nekih emocionalnih kompetencija (emocionalnog razumevanja, empatije, emocionalne regulacije i prepoznavanja emocija) u predikciji različitih strategija. Uzorak u ovom istraživanju sastojao se od 350 ispitanika prosečnog uzrasta od 12 godina, ujednačenog po polu. U cilju ispitivanja značaja i učešća odabranih prediktorskih varijabli u predikciji strategija za rešavanje vršnjačkih konflikata primenjena je multivarijatna analiza kovarijanse (MANCOVA). Rezultati pokazuju da visoka emocionalna kontrola ima značajnu ulogu u svim strategijama, s tim da je kod agresivnih strategija ta veza negativna. Razumevanje emocija pokazalo se ključnim u strategijama usmerenim na rešavanje problema i u asertivnim strategijama. Prepoznavanje emocija na osnovu facijalnih izraza pokazala se kao značajan prediktor jedino kod asertivnih strategija za rešavanje konflikata. Empatija se pokazala kao ključni prediktor strategija usmerenih na rešavanje problema i prediktor strategija traženja socijalne podrške. Rezultati govore u prilog tezi da emocionalna kompetencija predstavlja važnu odrednicu strategija za rešavanje konflikata.
There are various opinions regarding the factors motivating women to undergo breast augmentation. The aim of this study was to estimate motivation for augmentation mammaplasty (AM), self-esteem and ...body image perception in breast augmentation patients.
This prospective study involved AM patients operated in the Clinical Center of Vojvodina during a 3-year period. A total of 45 patients responded to our package of questionnaires designed to assess motivation for surgery, self-esteem level and body image perception. Those patients were compared to the control group of women who did not want to change their breast size, and who were similar in their age, social status and education level. Our package of questionnaires included a general questionnaire, Photographic Figure Rating Scale (PFRS) and Rosenberg's Self-Esteem Scale.
Differences in marital status, educational level, habitation and employment status were statistically insignificant, but there was a significantly lower body mass index (BMI) in the operated women. Considering motives for surgery, a few factors were distinguished: desire to feel more feminine (82.2%), confident (75.5%) and attractive (73.3%), to feel less shy with men (64.4%), to improve their sex life (46.5%), teasing history (42.2%) and easier to find a partner (11.1%) and job (2.2%). Both groups demonstrated a high self-esteem level, but in the the AM group results were lower than in the control group. The mean current self-rating by the PFRS in the group AM was lower than in the control group (4.28 +/- 1.3 vs 5.12 +/- 1.23, respectively) and this coincided with lower BMI in the AM group. The women in the AM group had chosen significantly smaller body size as maximally attractive, and had chosen a narrower attractive body size range than the women in the control group. CONCLUSION. Preoperative evaluation of patients' motives for surgery can help surgeons to exclude woman with unrealistic expectations and different psychological problems.
The aim of this study is to determine how top-level female soccer and volleyball players, and young, cadet and junior female volleyball players view themselves, their abilities, and their specific ...motor skills for sport in relation to other female and male athletes. In Study 1, the sample consisted of 24 female top soccer and volleyball players of the highest sporting rank in Serbia. In Study 2, the sample consisted of 31 female cadet and junior volleyball players. They all filled out a brief questionnaire regarding self-perception about their sporting abilities, when compared with same-sex and opposite-sex athletes of the same rank, sport and age. The results of Study 1 show that female top soccer and volleyball players perceive themselves as less competent when compared with male athletes of the same sport and age (t(22)=5.97, p=.00). The results of Study 2 show that female cadet and junior volleyball players perceive themselves as less competent in Serve strength (t(29)=3.27, p=.030) and Physical endurance and strength (t(29)=2.52, p=.017) when compared with male volleyball players of the same age. The obtained results call for further examination of gender differences in perceived self-competence.
