Combining different exercises potentially leads to greater improvements in cognitive ...function, however, evidence of the benefits that accrue with multicomponent exercise training, specifically for postmenopausal women is limited. Therefore, this study aimed to investigate the effects of short-term multicomponent exercise training programs on executive function in postmenopausal women. Thirty women (59.8 ± 5.2 years), who were at least 12 months post menopause were allocated into a control (CON) group and an exercise (EX) training group. The EX group underwent a 2-week (five times/week) multicomponent exercise program comprising aerobic, strength, flexibility, and balance exercises for 40-60 min. Executive function was assessed by using the Stroop test and global cognitive function was assessed using the Mini-Mental State Examination (MMSE) at baseline (pre) and after 2 weeks (post) of exercise. The EX group showed improved performance in the Stroop test, with faster inhibition reaction time (ES (g) = 0.76; p = 0.039) and fewer errors across all tasks (color naming: g = 0.8, p = 0.032; word reading: g = 0.88, p = 0.019; inhibition: g = 0.99, p = 0.009; switching: g = 0.93, p = 0.012) following exercise intervention. Additionally, statistical analysis of the MMSE score showed a significant improvement (g = 1.27; p = 0.001). In conclusion, our findings suggest that a short-term multicomponent exercise program improves selective tasks of executive function in postmenopausal women along with global cognitive function.
During inflammation, proinflammatory cytokines are released by various immune cells including IL-6 and activin B. Production of proinflammatory cytokines can be suppressed by estradiol and an ...increase in estradiol can be found in pregnancy. The aim of this study was to determine the response of IL-6 and activin b in pregnant mice through LPS induction. There were two groups of mice consisting of 8 mice which were not pregnant and 13 pregnant mice in the 2nd week. Inflammation was induced by intraperitoneal injection of LPS Escherichia coli serotype O111:B4. After 4 hours of treatment, the mice serum was collected from their intracardiac blood to measure estradiol, IL-6 and activin B using ELISA. Pregnancy significantly reduced IL-6 levels (P=0.015) but there was no significant difference in estradiol (P=0.169) and activin B (P=0.583) levels. We also found that there was no association of E2 with IL-6 (P=0.637) and activin B (P=0.306). Pregnancy influences the inflammatory response, especially IL-6. This condition can occur because during pregnancy physiological changes occur in the body which involve various complex mechanisms in regulating the immune system.

This study aimed to determine the influence of H. pylori resistance on the diversity and abundance of the stomach microbiome.
Bacterial DNA was extracted from biopsy samples of patients presenting dyspepsia symptoms with H. pylori positive from cultures and histology. DNA was amplified from the V3-V4 regions of the 16S rRNA gene. In-vitro E-test was used to detect antibiotic resistance. Microbiome community analysis was conducted through α-diversity, β-diversity, and relative abundance.
Sixty-nine H. pylori positive samples were eligible after quality filtering. Following resistance status to five antibiotics, samples were classified into 24 sensitive, 24 single resistance, 16 double resistance, 5 triple resistance. Samples were mostly resistant to metronidazole (73.33%; 33/45). Comparation of four groups displayed significantly elevated α-diversity parameters under the multidrug resistance condition (all P <0.05). A notable change was observed in triple-resistant compared to sensitive (P <0.05) and double-resistant (P <0.05) groups. Differences in β-diversity by UniFrac and Jaccard were not significant in terms of the resistance (P = 0.113 and P = 0.275, respectively). In the triple-resistant group, the relative abundance of Helicobacter genera was lower, whereas that of Streptococcus increased. Moreover, the linear discriminant analysis effect size (LEfSe) was associated with the presence of Corynebacterium and Saccharimonadales in the single-resistant group and Pseudomonas and Cloacibacterium in the triple-resistant group.
Our results suggest that the resistant samples showed a higher trend of diversity and evenness than the sensitive samples. The abundance of H. pylori in the triple-resistant samples decreased with increasing cohabitation of pathogenic bacteria, which may support antimicrobial resistance. However, antibiotic susceptibility determined by the E-test may not completely represent the resistance status.
Abstract Background Lipid accumulation product (LAP) is a novel predictor index of central lipid accumulation associated with metabolic and cardiovascular diseases. This study aims to investigate the ...accuracy of LAP for the screening of metabolic syndrome (MetS) in general adult males and females and its comparison with other lipid-related indicators. Methods A systematic literature search was conducted in PubMed, Scopus, Web of Science, Cumulative Index to Nursing and Allied Health Literature (CINAHL), and ProQuest for eligible studies up to May 8, 2024. Outcomes were pooled mean difference (MD), odds ratio (OR), and diagnostic accuracy parameters (sensitivity, specificity, and area under the summary receiver operating characteristic AUSROC curve). Comparative analysis was conducted using Z -test. Results Forty-three studies involving 202,313 participants (98,164 males and 104,149 females) were included. Pooled MD analysis showed that LAP was 45.92 ( P < 0.001) and 41.70 units ( P < 0.001) higher in men and women with MetS, respectively. LAP was also significantly associated with MetS, with pooled ORs of 1.07 ( P < 0.001) in men and 1.08 ( P < 0.001) in women. In men, LAP could detect MetS with a pooled sensitivity of 85% (95% CI: 82%–87%), specificity of 81% (95% CI: 80%–83%), and AUSROC curve of 0.88 (95% CI: 0.85–0.90), while in women, LAP had a sensitivity of 83% (95% CI: 80%–86%), specificity of 80% (95% CI: 78%–82%), and AUSROC curve of 0.88 (95% CI: 0.85–0.91). LAP had a significantly higher AUSROC curve ( P < 0.05) for detecting MetS compared to body mass index (BMI), waist-to-height ratio (WHtR), waist-to-hip ratio (WHR), body roundness index (BRI), a body shape index (ABSI), body adiposity index (BAI), conicity index (CI) in both genders, and waist circumference (WC) and abdominal volume index (AVI) in females. Conclusion LAP may serve as a simple, cost-effective, and more accurate screening tool for MetS in general adult male and female populations.
The study purpose was to prove the effect of acute moderate-intensity endurance and strength exercise on increasing IL-6 levels in obese females.
Materials and methods. A total of 21 obese women aged ...20-25 years were recruited from among university students and given two modes of acute exercise intervention, namely moderate-intensity endurance and strength exercise carried out for 35 minutes/session. Subjects were divided randomly into three groups, namely K1 (control group without intervention; n = 7), K2 (Acute moderate-intensity endurance exercise; n = 7), K3 (Acute moderate-intensity strength exercise; n = 7). ELISA was used to analyze serum IL-6 levels before and after exercise. The data analysis technique used the One-way ANOVA test and continued with the Tukey HSD post-hoc test with a significance level of 5%.
Results. The results of the One-way ANOVA test showed that there was a significant difference between serum IL-6 levels after exercise and delta (Δ) in the three groups (p ≤ 0.01). The results of the Tukey HSD post-hoc test showed that there was a significant difference between serum IL-6 levels after exercise and delta (Δ) at K3 with K1 (p ≤ 0.01), K3with K2 (p ≤ 0.01), while there was no significant difference in serum IL-6 levels (p ≥ 0.05) at K2 with K1.
Conclusions. Overall, our study concluded that 35 min/session of acute moderate-intensity strength exercise was effective in increasing anti-inflammatory cytokines, such as IL-6, in obese females.

The ketogenic diet has been reported to affect adiponectin level, although it is still contraindicated. Adiponectin is a biomarker for metabolic disease that plays an important role as a protective factor for cardiovascular disease and increase insulin sensitivity. This study aimed to explore the effect of the ketogenic diet on adiponectin level in mice, besides decrease weight gain. This study was an experimental laboratory study with a randomized post-test-only control group design. Fourteen male mice (20-30 g) aged 2-3 months were divided randomly into K1 (n=7, standard diet) and K2 (n=7, ketogenic diet), were given diet for eight weeks, ad libitum. Body weight was measured at the pre and post-intervention, whereas adiponectin level were measured at the post-intervention using ELISA. The statistical analysis using SPSS version 16. The Shapiro Wilk test was used to determine normality, Independent T-Test was used to determine mean difference for normal distribution, Mann Whitney Test was used to determine mean difference for abnormal distribution, and Pearson Correlation was used to determine correlation. Difference (∆) of body weight on K1 (12.00±6.26) g, K2 (1.29±7.41) g with p=0.02. Serum adiponectin level of K1 (0.082±0.014) µg/ml and K2 (0.096±0.008) µg/ml with p=0.035. This study showed ketogenic diet-induced higher serum adiponectin level and slower weight gain. There is no correlation between the difference in body weight and serum adiponectin level (p=0.403).
Childhood obesity is a complex problem, and its prevalence among school-age children has been found to have a greater impact on their physical well-being compared to their learning difficulties. In ...some cases, teachers or schools may not pay enough attention to issues that have the potential to affect or delay the psychomotor development of children. Therefore, this study aimed to provide enhanced comprehension regarding the effect of childhood obesity on psychomotor behavior. This study used a systematic review methodology to synthesize information regarding the effect of obesity on children's health and development. The information and data presented in this study were obtained from several scientific sources accessed through online libraries such as PubMed, ScienceDirect, and the Cochrane Library. A comprehensive search was conducted to identify scholarly publications, which resulted in a total of 815 papers published between 2013 and 2022. The selected papers exclusively consisted of original research articles that primarily focused on investigating the relationship between obesity in children aged 5–14 years and their psychomotor abilities and development outcomes. Following the screening process, five studies were found to meet the specified criteria. The findings of the selected studies revealed a substantial resemblance, specifically the correlation between childhood obesity and poor motor skills. Furthermore, the selected studies discovered that an increase in body fat is commonly associated with a rise in total body weight, or the relative body mass index (BMI), in both adults and children. Some studies demonstrated significant differences in the performance of diverse psychomotor variables according to children's BMI. According to the results of the studies, children with a higher BMI showed inferior performance in motor activities as a result of compromised body control and balance that inhibited the children's movement. This systematic review concludes that obesity has an effect on the psychomotor behavior of children.
