The experimental results showed that the proposed EEG-BCI system had a good performance and efficiency for the multimedia remote interactive operations, which will facilitate the fields of multimedia remote interactive operations.
In this article, a hybrid algorithm of Levenberg-Marquardt (LM) and proportional-integral-derivative neural network (PIDNN) with the relay feedback (LM-PIDNN-RF) is proposed to solve control problems ...for unknown discrete nonlinear systems. First, the PIDNN is initialized by the relay feedback to solve the problem of assigning initial weights; meanwhile, the LM neural network is regarded as an identifier to fit system input/output quickly and accurately. Second, the partial derivative of the system output to system input is transferred to the PIDNN, which ensures that the weights of the PIDNN can be updated correctly in time. The hybrid algorithm can update the weights of the neural network controller correctly against the errors caused by system instantaneous disturbance, and the controller has only one parameter to be tuned manually. Moreover, the stability of the closed-loop system is proven by using the Lyapunov stability theory. The proposed hybrid algorithm can significantly improve tracking performance in comparison with PIDNN and RF-PID. The results of three simulation examples and a physical experiment are presented to show superior tracking performance of the proposed algorithm.
A rapid and sensitive competitive fluorescence-linked immunosorbent assay (cFLISA) based on quantum dot−streptavidin conjugate (QDs−SA) was developed for the detection of chlorpyrifos in drinking ...water. The QDs−SA conjugate, which consists of 3-mercaptopropyl acid-stabilized CdTe nanoparticle QDs and streptavidin (SA) made through the active ester method, was employed to improve the sensitivity of QDs−SA-cFLISA. The 50% inhibition concentration (IC50) and the limit of detection (LOD) were 28.5 and 3.8 ng mL−1, respectively. QDs−SA-cFLISA increased sensitivity 5.5-fold and reduced detection time by 1 h compared with conventional enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). With chlorpyrifos concentrations of 100, 50, and 20 ng mL−1, recoveries ranged from 85.9% to 105.3% with coefficients of variation ranging from 6.3% to 13.5%. This study demonstrated that QDs−SA-cFLISA was more rapid and sensitive than conventional ELISA. Therefore, it can be used as a novel screening method for the detection of pesticide residues.
•HKUST-1 coated capillary were fabricated by in situ layer-by-layer self-assembly method.•The multilayer coated capillary columns were characterized by SEM, XRD and ICP-AES.•Neutral analytes were ...baseline separated on 10, 15, 20layers coated capillary columns.•Phenolic analytes were baseline separated on 10, 15 layers coating capillary columns.•10, 15, 20 layers coating capillary columns were used for more than 120 runs.
The popularity of novel nanoparticles coated capillary column has aroused widespread attention of researchers. Metal organic frameworks (MOFs) with special structure and chemical properties have received great interest in separation sciences. This work presents the investigation of HKUST-1 (Hong Kong University of Science and Technology-1, called Cu3(BTC)2 or MOF-199) nanoparticles as a new type of coating material for capillary electrochromatography. For the first time, three layers coating (3-LC), five layers coating (5-LC), ten layers coating (10-LC), fifteen layers coating (15-LC), twenty layers coating(20-LC) and twenty-five layers coating (25-LC) capillary columns coated with HKUST-1 nanoparticles were synthesized by covalent bond with in situ, layer-by-layer self-assembly approach. The results of scanning electron microscopy (SEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD) and plasma atomic emission spectrometry (ICP-AES) indicated that HKUST-1 was successfully grafted on the inner wall of the capillary. The separating performances of 3-LC, 5-LC, 10-LC, 15-LC, 20-LC and 25-LC open tubular (OT) capillary columns were studied with some neutral small organic molecules. The results indicated that the neutral small organic molecules were separated successfully with 10-LC, 15-LC and 20-LC OT capillary columns because of the size selectivity of lattice aperture and hydrophobicity of organic ligands. In addition, 10-LC and 15-LC OT capillary columns showed better performance for the separation of certain phenolic compounds. Furthermore, 10-LC, 15-LC and 20-LC OT capillary columns exhibited good intra-day repeatability with the relative standard deviations (RSDs; %) of migration time and peak areas lying in the range of 0.3–1.2% and 0.5–4.2%, respectively. For inter-day reproducibility, the RSDs of the three OT capillary columns were found to be lying in the range of 0.3–5.5% and 0.3–4.5% for migration time and peak area, respectively. The RSDs of retention times for column-to-column for three batches of 10-LC, 15-LC and 20-LC OT capillary columns were in the range from 2.3% to 7.2%. Moreover, the fabricated 10-LC, 15-LC and 20-LC OT capillary columns exhibited good repeatability and stability for separation, which could be used successively for more than 120 runs with no observable changes on the separation efficiency.
The distributions and pollution status of heavy metals in the suspended particles were investigated in the Wanquan and Wenchang/Wenjiao estuaries and the coastal area of eastern Hainan in July 2008. ...The concentrations of metal elements (Al, Fe, Mn, Cr, Cu, Ni, V, Zn) were determined by ICP-AES after microwave digestion. Multivariate statistical methods (e. g. correlation analysis and principal factor analysis) were used to discuss the major factors controlling the variability of heavy metal concentrations and the pollution status in those areas. There was an obvious variability in particulate metal concentrations from upstream to estuary of both rivers. The concentrations first increased with increasing salinity and then decreased with further increase of the salinity; the concentrations were slightly higher at the coastal area in the east. The variability of particulate metal concentrations reduced significantly after the normalization by Al, indicating the effects of grain size. Enrichment factor calculatio

Finally, the fractional-order observer design algorithm is proposed and then applied to an illustrated example, in which the simulation results are reported to verify the effectiveness of the proposed approach.
Implant‐related infection (IRI) is a devastating complication in orthopedic procedures. Traditional materials used in orthopedics are susceptible to bacterial infection. In this study, we developed a ...copper‐bearing 316L stainless steel (316L‐Cu SS) for the prevention of IRI. This 316L‐Cu SS allowed stable and continuous release of copper ions with a rate of 5.079 ng/cm2/day. Compared with 316L stainless steel (316L SS), 316L‐Cu SS exhibited a broad‐spectrum antibacterial effect against Staphylococcus aureus, Escherichia coli, and Staphylococcus epidermidis with the bacterial reduction percentages of 95.2, 94.8, and 94.1%, respectively. The antibiofilm activity was confirmed by crystal violet assay, scanning electron microscopy, and confocal laser scanning microscopy. The in vivo antibacterial performance was tested on a rat model. When nails were treated with a low concentration of bacteria, 316L SS group exhibit a bone infection with a radiographic score of 8.9 ± 1.1 and a histological score of 10.4 ± 1.0, which were higher than 316L‐Cu SS group (1.2 ± 0.2 and 0.9 ± 0.2), indicating IRI was reduced by 316L‐Cu SS. When nails were treated with a high concentration of bacteria, IRI was also alleviated by 316L‐Cu SS. Together, these results demonstrated that 316L‐Cu SS is a promising material for preventing IRI.
Genome-editing technologies have revolutionized the biomedical sciences by providing researchers with the ability to quickly and efficiently modify genes. While programmable nucleases can be ...introduced into cells using a variety of techniques, their delivery as purified proteins is an effective approach for limiting off-target effects. Here, we describe step-by-step procedures for manufacturing and delivering genome-modifying proteins-including Cas9 ribonucleoproteins (RNPs) and TALE and zinc-finger nucleases-into mammalian cells. Protocols for combining Cas9 RNP with naturally recombinogenic adeno-associated virus (AAV) donor vectors for the seamless insertion of transgenes by homology-directed genome editing are also provided.
Liver regeneration is the basic physiological process after partial hepatectomy (PH), and is important for the functional rehabilitation of the liver after acute hepatic injury. This study was ...designed to explore the effects of neurolytic celiac plexus block (NCPB) on liver regeneration after PH. We established a model of PH in rats, assessing hepatic blood flow, liver function, and serum CRP, TNF-α, IL-1β and IL-6 concentrations of the residuary liver after PH. Additionally, histopathological studies, immunohistochemistry, and western blotting were also performed. Our results indicated that NCPB treatment after PH improved liver regeneration and survival rates, increased hepatic blood flow, reduced hepatocyte damage, decreased the secretion and release of inflammatory cytokines, increased the expression of B cell lymphoma/leukemia-2 (Bcl-2), and decreased the expression of Bcl-2 associated X protein (Bax). Additionally, Western blotting revealed that the expression of NF-κB p65 and c-Jun were decreased in liver after NCPB. In conclusion, the results of our present study indicate that NCPB treatment has a favorable effect on liver regeneration after PH. We suggest that NCPB can be utilized as an effective therapeutic method to help the functional rehabilitation of the liver after acute hepatic injury or liver cancer surgery.
