Navigation requires not only the execution of locomotor programs but also high arousal and real-time retrieval of spatial memory that is often associated with hippocampal theta oscillations. However, ...the neural circuits for coordinately controlling these important processes remain to be fully dissected. Here we show that the activity of the neuromedin B (NMB) neurons in the nucleus incertus (NI) is tightly correlated with mouse locomotor speed, arousal level, and hippocampal theta power. These processes are reversibly suppressed by optogenetic inhibition and rapidly promoted by optogenetic stimulation of NI NMB neurons. These neurons form reciprocal connections with several subcortical areas associated with arousal, theta oscillation, and premotor processing. Their projections to multiple downstream stations regulate locomotion and hippocampal theta, with the projection to the medial septum being particularly important for promoting arousal. Therefore, NI NMB neurons functionally impact the neural circuit for navigation control according to particular brains states.

Red or blue irradiations deterministically evoke or silence neurons co-expressing the two opsins. The probe interferes with dopaminergic neurons in the ventral tegmental area of mice, increasing or decreasing dopamine levels. Such bidirectional regulations further generate rewarding and aversive behaviors and interrogate social interactions among multiple mice. These technologies create numerous opportunities and implications for brain research.
In order to assess the rationality of the rated shield support capacity (RSSC) experienced selection and guide the reasonable RSSC selection for the subsequent working faces of each coal seam, the ...coupling relationship between shield and roof strata was revealed during each coal seams mining. According to whether the fractured rock blocks generated by the main roof are articulated and whether the upper coal seam has been mined and influenced on the lower coal seam, two roof structure mechanical models of the rock blocks generated by the thick main roof and two calculation methods of a given load on the rock blocks are proposed. In addition, a selection method of roof structure model for maximum shield support capacity (MSSC) of close-multiple coal seams with the coordinated mining is put forward. Three roof structures to calculate the MSSC are established. Based on a case study of close-multiple coal seams with the coordinated mining in the Qianjiaying coal mine, the MSSC is calculated and analyzed in each coal seam combined with roof structure characteristics description, theoretical analysis, and field measurement. No.7, No.12-1, and No.5 coal seams mining are applicable to a voussoir beam balanced structure. No.8 coal seam mining is applicable to a balanced structure with a given load of loose body. No.9 coal seam mining is applicable to a voussoir beam balanced structure with a given load of loose body. Through the calculation, the MSSC of No.7, No.8, No.12-1, No.9, and No.5 coal seam is 3948.55kN, 4018.32kN, 4101.63kN, 3560.03kN, and 4015.30kN, respectively. And the RSSC suggested selection of each coal seam is 4500kN, 4300kN, 4300kN, 4000kN, and 4300kN, respectively. By field measurement, the RSSC experienced selection of each coal seam in the Qianjiaying coal mine is unreasonable with low support load utilization. However, after adopting the RSSC suggested selection in each coal seam, the support load utilization increased by 29.07%, 9.6%, 8.57%, 15.33%, and 11.39%.

In the Kaiping Coal field, mining of five coal seams, located within 80 m in the Kailuan Group, #5, #7, #8, #9 and #12 coal seam, is difficult due to small interburden thickness, concentrated stress ...distributions, high coal seam metamorphism, and complex geological conditions. By using the ZTR12 geological penetration radar (GPR) survey combined with borehole observations, the overburden caving due to mining of the five coals seams was measured. The development characteristics of full-cover rock fractures after mining were obtained from the GPR scan, which provides a measurement basis for the control of rock strata in close multiple coal seam mining. For the first time, it was found that the overburden caving pattern shows a periodic triangular caved characteristic. Furthermore, it is proposed that an upright triangular collapsed pile masonry and an inverted triangular with larger fragments piled up alternately appear in the lower gob. The research results show that the roof structure formed in the gob area can support the key overlying strata, which is beneficial to ensure the integrity and stability of the upper coal seams in multiple-seam mining of close coal seams.
Stress-induced hyperglycemia is a fundamental adaptive response that mobilizes energy stores in response to threats. Here, our examination of the contributions of the central catecholaminergic (CA) ...neuronal system to this adaptive response revealed that CA neurons in the ventrolateral medulla (VLM) control stress-induced hyperglycemia. Ablation of VLM CA neurons abolished the hyperglycemic response to both physical and psychological stress, whereas chemogenetic activation of these neurons was sufficient to induce hyperglycemia. We further found that CA neurons in the rostral VLM, but not those in the caudal VLM, cause hyperglycemia via descending projections to the spinal cord. Monosynaptic tracing experiments showed that VLM CA neurons receive direct inputs from multiple stress-responsive brain areas. Optogenetic studies identified an excitatory PVN-VLM circuit that induces hyperglycemia. This study establishes the central role of VLM CA neurons in stress-induced hyperglycemia and substantially expands our understanding of the central mechanism that controls glucose metabolism.

The adverse reactions that are caused by drugs are potentially life-threatening problems. Comprehensive knowledge of adverse drug reactions (ADRs) can reduce their detrimental impacts on patients. ...Detecting ADRs through clinical trials takes a large number of experiments and a long period of time. With the growing amount of unstructured textual data, such as biomedical literature and electronic records, detecting ADRs in the available unstructured data has important implications for ADR research. Most of the neural network-based methods typically focus on the simple semantic information of sentence sequences; however, the relationship of the two entities depends on more complex semantic information. In this paper, we propose multihop self-attention mechanism (MSAM) model that aims to learn the multi-aspect semantic information for the ADR detection task. first, the contextual information of the sentence is captured by using the bidirectional long short-term memory (Bi-LSTM) model. Then, via applying the multiple steps of an attention mechanism, multiple semantic representations of a sentence are generated. Each attention step obtains a different attention distribution focusing on the different segments of the sentence. Meanwhile, our model locates and enhances various keywords from the multiple representations of a sentence. Our model was evaluated by using two ADR corpora. It is shown that the method has a stable generalization ability. Via extensive experiments, our model achieved F-measure of 0.853, 0.799 and 0.851 for ADR detection for TwiMed-PubMed, TwiMed-Twitter, and ADE, respectively. The experimental results showed that our model significantly outperforms other compared models for ADR detection. In this paper, we propose a modification of multihop self-attention mechanism (MSAM) model for an ADR detection task. The proposed method significantly improved the learning of the complex semantic information of sentences.
The striatum participates in numerous important behaviors. Its principal projection neurons use GABA and peptides as neurotransmitters and interact extensively with interneurons, including ...cholinergic interneurons (ChIs) that are tonically active. Dissecting the interactions between projection neurons and ChIs is important for uncovering the role and mechanisms of the striatal microcircuits. Here, by combining several optogenetic tools with cell type-specific electrophysiological recordings, we uncovered direct electrical coupling between D1-type projection neurons and ChIs, in addition to the chemical transmission between these two major cell types. Optogenetic stimulation or inhibition led to bilateral current exchanges between D1 neurons and ChIs, which can be abolished by gap junction blockers. We further confirmed the presence of gap junctions through paired electrophysiological recordings and dye microinjections. Finally, we found that activating D1 neurons promotes basal activity of ChIs via gap junctions. Collectively, these results reveal the coexistence of the chemical synapse and gap junctions between D1 neurons and ChIs, which contributes to maintaining the tonically active firing patterns of ChIs.
Mining in an upper coal seam results in the redistribution of vertical stress within a lower coal seam until a new equilibrium state is attained. Close-multiple coal seams mining faces the occurrence ...of multi-goafs and a complex stress environment. Based on a case study of close-multiple coal seams with repeated mining in the Qianjiaying coal mine, a stress distribution model of the floor in the coal seam striking range was established by optimizing the load form of the abutment pressure. The floor stress state after primary and repeated mining of upper coal seams was analyzed in a visual and quantitative manner. The concentrations of vertical stress, horizontal stress, and shear stress are all located in the floor under the coal rib after primary and repeated mining. The curve of stresses gradually levels off as the depth of the floor increases, indicating a diminishing influence of mining-induced stress from the upper coal seam. Based on the stress analysis by numerical simulations, the overall lower coal seam remains in a state of large-scale stress relief. Stress relief occurred twice under repeated mining, which indicates that the lower coal seam has favorable mining feasibility. The results of the study can provide scientific guidance to prevent mining accidents.
