This book provides a thorough introduction to the phenomenology of heavy flavour physics, those working on the B-factories, LHCb, BTeV, HERA and the Tevatron. It explains how heavy quark theory could ...be implemented on the lattice, and discusses the status of CP-violation in the neutral kaon system.

B-factories at SLAC and KEK started producing high quality results in 2001, while preparations for B physics at the LHC continue. Heavy Flavour Physics: Theory and Experimental Results in Heavy Quark ...Physics provides an introduction to and overview of recent developments in theory and experiments relevant to the physics of heavy flavors, particularly that of the b quark. It reviews the field thoroughly from both experimental and theoretical perspectives. The book includes important background material on the standard model, CP violation, lattice quantum chromodynamics, and Kaon decay experiments. Chapters are written by international experts and the whole book has been carefully edited to provide a coherent account of the field. The level is suitable for junior postdoctoral researchers and postgraduate students in particle physics.

A cluster of multi-anode photomultiplier tubes (MaPMTs) equipped with focusing lenses in front of the tubes was tested in a prototype ring imaging Cherenkov (RICH) detector in a charged particle ...beam. The readout electronics were capable of capturing the data at 40
MHz. The effects due to charged particles and magnetic field on the MaPMT performance were also studied. The results are used to evaluate the MaPMT as a possible photodetector for the LHCb RICH detectors.

We show that a multifaceted LiF radiator produces more Cherenkov light and has better resolution per photon than a flat radiator slab when used in a ring imaging Cherenkov counter. Such a system is ...being considered for the CLEO III upgrade.

We describe a prototype RICH detector that has been built as part of design work for the CLEO III RICH. Cherenkov photons are produced in a LiF radiator, and are detected in an MWPC containing a gas ...mixture of methane and TEA. Signals are read out from 2016 cathode pads using low noise Viking chips. First results from this prototype show a yield of about 13 photoelectrons per image in agreement with our design studies.
