This paper examines the psychometric properties of the 30-item Moral Foundations Questionnaire among a sample of 370 young adults between the ages of 18 and 26 years who were born in Punjab and who ...had lived there since their birth. Initial analyses did not support the internal consistency reliability of the five scales of moral predispositions proposed by this measure. Exploratory factor analysis and confirmatory factor analysis identified two factors that distinguished not between areas of moral predisposition, but between the two styles of items (relevance and judgement), each of which included all five predispositions. Correlations with personal religiosity suggested that the scale comprising 12 judgement items (α = .88) was susceptible to religious sentiment, but that the scale comprising 12 relevance items (α = .89) was not. The scale of 12 relevance items is commended for further testing and application within Muslim societies.
This study explored lay perceptions of wellbeing dimensions. Six young adult Orthodox Christians participated in semi-structured interviews about their experiences of spiritual and psychological ...wellbeing. Data was analysed using interpretative phenomenological analysis and produced three themes: articulating wellbeing experiences, relating the two domains, and journeys in wellbeing. This study highlights the role of culture in wellbeing, provides differentiation between lay and academic formulations, and contextualises spiritual wellbeing for an understudied religious group. Future research should refine cultural homogeneity in the sample and explore how specific theological concepts may underpin wellbeing experiences.
The ten-item Autism Spectrum Quotient (AQ10) is a self-report instrument originally designed to identify referrals for professional diagnosis for Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD). Recent studies ...suggest that this instrument may also be tapping more generalised affective disorders. Working with this interpretation, this study examines the predictive power of the AQ10 to account for additional variance, after personal and personality factors have been taken into account, on the two scales of the Francis Burnout Inventory. Data provided by 220 Anglican clergy serving in Wales demonstrated that 8.6% of the participants recorded six or more red flags on the AQ10 (and so qualified for referral for specialist diagnostic assessment) and that higher scores on the AQ10 are associated with significantly lower levels of satisfaction in ministry and with significantly higher levels of emotional exhaustion in ministry. These data suggest that screening with the AQ10 may be helpful in identifying clergy vulnerable to professional burnout and to poor work-related psychological wellbeing, in addition to its primary purpose of screening for ASD.
•Preparation of mechanically alloyed powders with a wide variation of the Mg:B-ratio.•Influence of this ratio on phase composition and on grain size of in bulk samples.•Increase of irreversibility ...field for Mg deficient samples.•Transport current density of wires is increasing considerably with Mg deficiency.
In this contribution the influence of the Mg:B-stoichiometry in the precursor on the structural and electrical properties of bulks and wires prepared with mechanically alloyed powder is discussed. The Mg to B ratio in the powder was varied in the range of x=0.7 to 1.1 (MgxB2). Analysing the properties of bulks and wires prepared with such precursor powders it was found that Mg-deficiency can increase the amount of MgB2 phase, the MgB2 diffraction peak width, the irreversibility field and the critical current density considerably.
Two substituted aryl organotellurium compounds and a tellurium-free analog of one of these were evaluated for in vitro cytotoxicity using human promyelocytic (HL-60) cells as an experimental system. ...Both tellurium-containing toxicants (2,2
′-dimethoxydiphenyl ditelluride and 2,2
′-diamino-3,3
′,5,5
′-tetramethyldiphenyl ditelluride) were cytotoxic at concentrations as low as 5
×
10
−6 M and the dimethoxydiphenyl compound produced significant numbers of apoptotic cells at a concentration of only 1
×
10
−6 M after 8 h. Data indicate that 2,2
′-dimethoxydiphenyl ditelluride and 2,2
′-diamino-3,3
′,5,5
′-tetramethyldiphenyl ditelluride induce apoptosis in both a time and dose dependent manner; however, 2,2
′-dimethoxybiphenyl, structurally comparable to the first of these but without the tellurium bridge, did not produce apoptosis under the concentrations and time course studied. Therefore the telluride moiety was apparently an important factor in the apoptotic effect.

The increasing use of tellurium compounds in organic synthesis, industrial applications, and as a possible component in pesticides means that its introduction into the environment will increase in ...the future. Therefore, knowledge of the relative toxicity and mode of toxic action of tellurium-containing compounds is important. The studies detailed here used three model compounds: diphenyl ditelluride, 3,3'-diaminodiphenyl ditelluride, and 4,4'-diisopropyldiphenyl ditelluride. Experiments with human promyelocytic (line HL-60) cells indicate that all of the organotellurium compounds induce an apoptotic form of cell death. The induction of apoptosis occurs in a time- and dose-dependent manner as assayed by three different analytical methods: fluorescence microscopy, gel electrophoresis, and flow cytometry. Apoptotic cells were evident as early as 2 h following treatment with 1x10(-6) M concentrations of the compounds. Based on these results, future care should be afforded these compounds in laboratory as well as industrial settings.
Sperm from four mammalian species were analyzed by the sperm chromatin structure assay (SCSA) and the terminal deoxynucleotidyl transferase assay (TdTA) using flow cytometry. The SCSA quantitates the ...susceptibility of sperm nuclear DNA to in situ acid denaturation, while the TdTA quantitates the presence of endogenous DNA strand breaks in sperm nuclear chromatin. Correlations were seen between the percentage of sperm cells showing susceptibility to in situ acid denaturation and the percentage of cells showing the presence of DNA strand breaks for humans (r = 0.56, P = 0.004), rams (r = 0.84, P < 0.001), bulls (r= 0.78, P < 0.001), and stallions (r = 0.65, P < 0.001). No significant differences were seen when using fresh or frozen samples for either assay. These results suggest that sperm cells that are more susceptible to in situ DNA denaturation may have a greater number of accessible endogenous DNA strand breaks. We hypothesize that the DNA strand breaks produced in the normal transition from a somatic cell histone complex to a protamine complex are not ligated properly, resulting in residual DNA strand breaks and altered chromatin structure. Alternatively, altered chromatin structure could lead to the accessibility of the endogenous DNA strand breaks.
We report about the improvements on overall critical current density j/sub e/, long-length processing, mechanical properties, and insulation. These topics are discussed for Bi-2223/Ag-alloy tapes for ...typical DC-applications, for AC-applications which require twisted filaments to achieve low-loss properties and for current-lead-applications (EAS is producing Bi-2223/AgMgAu-HTS-tapes for the CERN-LHC-Project). The state-of-the art production of Bi-2223/Ag-alloy tapes at EAS allows for overall current densities of >100 A/mm/sup 2/. There is progress out of the development line to a value of more than 120 A/mm/sup 2/, which will be transferred to the production line in the near future. Regarding AC-tapes with twisted filaments, it is possible to prepare tapes without a reduction in overall current density if the preparation parameters are kept within a well defined window. Both types of tapes are available in piece-lengths of up to 1500 m. The requirements on the piece-lengths of Bi-2223/AgMgAu-HTS-tapes for current leads are less stringent. This type of tape is available in piece-lengths up to 300 m with overall current densities up to 90 A/mm/sup 2/.

We report the results of an experiment to measure the overall photon detection efficiency of the HADES RICH. Cherenkov radiation from light carbon ions was used to produce single photons in the ...accessible wavelength region between 145 and 220nm. The photon detector response to single photons is described by a parametrisation. The total light yield and its spatial distribution are compared to full scale simulations and yield a figure of merit N0≃90(cm−1) for the RICH.
