Objective
Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) is a multisystem inflammatory disease characterized by the production of various autoantibodies. The aim of this study was to investigate the presence of ...anti–ficolin‐2 antibodies in SLE patients and to evaluate the association between the levels of these autoantibodies, clinical manifestations, and disease activity.
Methods
This is a comparative study using a cohort of 165 SLE patients and 48 healthy subjects. SLE patients were further divided into 2 groups (low disease activity SLE Disease Activity Index (SLEDAI) score ≤4, n = 88 and high disease activity SLEDAI score >4, n = 77). Clinical manifestations were defined according to the physician in charge. Active lupus nephritis (LN) was documented by kidney biopsy. Detection of anti–ficolin‐2 antibodies was performed by enzyme‐linked immunosorbent assay.
Results
Levels of anti–ficolin‐2 autoantibodies were significantly higher in SLE patients as compared to healthy subjects and associated with SLEDAI score. They were found to be positive in 61 of 165 SLE patients (37%). The presence of anti–ficolin‐2 antibodies was significantly related only to renal involvement, with a very high prevalence (86%) of anti–ficolin‐2 antibodies in SLE patients with active LN. Patients with active proliferative LN had significantly more positive anti–ficolin‐2 antibodies than those with nonproliferative LN. The combination of anti–ficolin‐2, anti–ficolin‐3, and anti‐C1q demonstrated a very high specificity (98%) for the diagnosis of active LN.
Conclusion
Our results support the usefulness of anti–ficolin‐2 as a complementary serologic biomarker for the diagnosis of active lupus with renal manifestations.

Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) is a chronic autoimmune disease characterized by the production of multiple autoantibodies. Antibodies against Ficolin-3 were previously identified in the sera of ...some SLE patients, but their prevalence and significance have not been yet investigated. The aims of this study were to determine the prevalence of anti-ficolin-3 antibodies among SLE patients and to investigate their potential as diagnostic and/or prognostic biomarkers in SLE. In this retrospective study, sera from SLE patients (n = 165) were selected from a preexisting declared biological collection. Samples from healthy controls (n = 48) were matched with SLE sera. Disease activity was determined according to the SLEDAI score. Anti-ficolin-3, anti-dsDNA and anti-C1q antibodies levels were measured in sera by ELISA. First, a highly significant difference was found in the anti-ficolin-3 levels between SLE patients and healthy subjects. Anti-ficolin-3 antibodies were detected as positive in 56 of 165 (34%) SLE patients. The titer of anti-ficolin-3 antibodies was correlated with the SLEDAI score (r = 0.38, p<0.0001). The presence of anti-ficolin-3 antibodies was associated with anti-C1q and anti-dsDNA antibodies. Regarding associations with clinical manifestations, the presence of active lupus nephritis was significantly associated with the presence of anti-ficolin-3 antibodies (p≤0.001). This association with renal involvement was higher with anti-ficolin-3 or anti-C1q antibodies than with other auto-antibodies. Interestingly, the combination of anti-ficolin-3 and anti-C1q antibodies demonstrated higher specificity than any other serological biomarker. These results suggest that anti-ficolin-3 antibodies could be useful for the diagnosis of active nephritis in SLE patients.
Sjögren's syndrome (SS) is a systemic autoimmune pathology manifested mainly by a dry syndrome, intense asthenia and arthromyalgia. Systemic manifestations may also occur. Since 2019, ...immunosuppressant agents (IS) or biotherapies are recommended only for patients with systemic involvement. However, before 2019, in some cases, paucisymptomatic patients had been treated with IS/biotherapies, often off-label. Objective: We propose to evaluate the benefit and safety of using IS/biotherapy in patients with SS without systemic involvement. Methods: We retrospectively collected the clinical records of all patients with SS diagnosed according to ACR/EULAR diagnostic criteria followed up between January 1980 and October 2023 at Grenoble University Hospital (France). Results: Eighty-three patients were included: 64 with an initially non-systemic form. Of these patients with an initially non-systemic form, 24 were treated with IS/biotherapy. None of them developed secondary systematization, whereas 11 out of 40 patients in the untreated group did (p < 0.05). On the other hand, IS/biotherapy did not appear to improve dry syndrome. There were no serious adverse events. Conclusion: Early introduction of an IS/biotherapy treatment appears to provide a benefit for the patient without side effects.

Hepatitis E virus (HEV) infection has been reported to be associated with neurological disorders. However, the real prevalence of acute hepatitis E in those diseases is still unknown. We determined ...the prevalence of anti-HEV IgM antibody in a population with acute non-traumatic, non-metabolic, non-vascular neurological injury.
A registry was created in Grenoble Hospital University from 2014 to 2018 to collect data on patients with acute (<3 months) non-traumatic, non-metabolic, non-vascular neurological injuries. Acute hepatitis E was defined as anti-HEV IgM-positive serum in immunocompetent patient, and as anti-HEV IgM-positive serum or HEV RNA-positive serum in immunocompromised patients.
One hundred fifty-nine patients were included. Anti-HEV IgM seroprevalence in our cohort of non-traumatic, non-metabolic, non-vascular neurological injuries was 6.9% (eleven patients, including 4 Parsonage-Turner syndrome (PTS) and 2 Guillain–Barré syndrome (GBS)). Elevated transaminases were observed in only 64% of hepatitis E patients and cholestasis in 64%.
In this study, 6·9% of patients with acute non-traumatic, non-metabolic, non-vascular neurological injuries had a probable recent HEV infection. HEV serology should be systematically performed in this population, even in patients with normal transaminase level.
Objective
To describe characteristics and outcomes of vasculitides associated with malignancies.
Methods
The requirement for inclusion in this retrospective, 10‐year study was development of ...vasculitis in patients with a progressing malignancy. Malignancies secondary to immunosuppressants used to treat vasculitis were excluded. The main characteristics of vasculitides were analyzed and compared according to the type of malignancy.
Results
Sixty patients were included (male/female sex ratio 2.53, mean age 62.4 years). Mean followup duration was 45.2 months. Vasculitides were cutaneous leukocytoclastic (45%), polyarteritis nodosa (36.7%), Wegener's granulomatosis (6.7%), microscopic polyangiitis (5%), and Henoch‐Schönlein purpura (5%). Malignancies were distributed as follows: hematologic in 63.1%, myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS) in 32.3%, lymphoid in 29.2%, and solid tumor in 36.9%. Vasculitides were diagnosed concurrently with malignancy in 38% of the cases. Manifestations of vasculitides were fever (41.7%), cutaneous involvement (78.3%), arthralgias (46.7%), peripheral neuropathy (31.7%), renal involvement (23.3%; 11.7% glomerulonephritis, 11.7% microaneurysms, 6.7% renal insufficiency), and antineutrophil cytoplasmic antibody (20.4%). Vasculitis treatments were corticosteroids (78.3%) and immunosuppressant(s) (41.7%). Vasculitis was cured in 65% of patients, but 58.3% died, with 1 death secondary to vasculitis. Independent of subtype, patients with vasculitides associated with MDS more frequently had renal manifestations (P = 0.02) and steroid dependence (P = 0.04) and achieved complete remission less often (P = 0.04) than patients with vasculitides associated with other malignancies. Patients with vasculitides associated with a solid tumor more frequently had peripheral neurologic involvement (P = 0.05). Patients with vasculitides associated with lymphoid malignancy had less frequent arthralgias (P = 0.01) and renal involvement (P = 0.02).
Conclusion
Vasculitides occurring during malignancies present distinctive features according to the vasculitis subtype and nature of the malignancy.
Patients have to be informed about the risks and benefits of medicinal products derived from human plasma. No study has examined the patient's perspective yet. Our objective was to assess perceived ...benefits and risks of immunoglobulins administration from the patient's point of view. Thirty-four patients receiving subcutaneous or intravenous immunoglobulins for chronic disorders at a single university hospital were asked to complete a survey. Although the level of comfort was high, the results revealed variable and incomplete knowledge, in particular about the nature of the treatment. Greater efforts should be made by health professionals to provide information to patients about plasma-derived medicinal products.
