Solid pseudopapillary tumor (SPT) of the pancreas is a rare benign or low-grade malignant epithelial tumor that occurs mainly in young females in second to fourth decades of life. Pathologic and ...imaging findings include a well-defined, encapsulated pancreatic mass with cystic and solid components with evidence of hemorrhage. We report a 23-year-old female who presented with upper abdominal pain of long duration and epigastric mass on palpation. Multidetector-row CT (MDCT) demonstrated a large well-defined heterogeneous attenuation mass, containing hyperdense areas of hemorrhage mixed with solid enhancing and cystic non-enhancing areas, arising from the pancreatic body and tail. Splenic vein thrombosis was present with dilated splenoportal collateral vessels between splenic hilum and portal/superior mesenteric veins, with dilated vessels seen in the gastric wall, with patent portal vein, compatible with sinistral portal hypertension. Typical imaging features and age and sex of the patient suggested a diagnosis of SPT of pancreas complicated by segmental portal hypertension due to splenic vein thrombosis. Histopathology of the biopsy material was confirmatory.
Ultra-wideband is increasingly advancing as a high data rate wireless technology after the Federal Communication Commission announced the bandwidth of 7.5 GHz (from 3.1 GHz to 10.6 GHz) for ...ultra-wideband applications. Furthermore, designing a UWB antenna faces more difficulties than designing a narrow band antenna. A suitable UWB antenna should be able to work over the Federal Communication Commission of ultra-wide bandwidth allocation. Furthermore, good radiation properties across the entire frequency spectrum are needed. This paper outlines an optimization of fractal square microstrip patch antenna with the partial ground using a genetic algorithm at 3.5 GHz and 6 GHz. The optimized antenna design shows improved results compared to the non-optimized design. This design is optimized using a genetic algorithm and simulated using CST simulation software. The size of the optimized design is reduced by cutting the edges and the center of the patch. The optimized results reported, and concentrated on the rerun loss, VSWR and gain. The results indicate a significant enhancement as is illustrated in Table II. Thus, the optimized design is suitable for S-band and C-band applications.
The use of illicit drugs has become an increasingly serious problem among various sections of the Bangladesh population. However, there has been almost no research on the use of illicit drugs by ...Bangladeshi people. This paper examines drug use patterns and the social circumstances within which drug-taking behaviour took place among a sample of different target groups. The study incorporated a semi-structured qualitative interview and a structured quantitative questionnaire. Demographic and drug use information was collected from a total of 154 drug users. Approximately three-quarters of the subjects reported that they had used alcohol and ganja in the month prior to being interviewed. The findings revealed interesting differences between the groups. For example, the student group was found to use phensidyl syrup (67%) more often than those of other groups and did not differ significantly in the use of ganja. The use of heroin and sedatives was widespread, with nearly one-third of subjects (40%) reporting having injected these drugs. The majority (41%) of most recent drug use occurred in conjunction with a group of people. Drug use was associated with frustration, peer pressure, family problems and curiosity. Peer education programs are likely to be the most effective harm reduction approach among new drug users. The implications of these findings are discussed.
We compared the applicability of an enhanced chemiluminescent (ECL) method for using gene probes with that of radioactive probes to identify enterotoxigenic Escherichia coli (ETEC) in stools of ...Bangladeshi children with diarrhoea. Colony blots of E. coli isolates were hybridized using both α-32P-dCTP labelled and fluorescein-11-dUTP labelled polynucleotide and oligonucleotide gene probes for heat-labile enterotoxin (LT), and heat-stable enterotoxin (ST). Analysis of 1,620 isolates obtained from 540 patients gave similar results by both radioactive and chemiluminescent probes. The ECL method was faster than the radioactive method. Both polynucleotide and oligonucleotide probes could be used by the ECL method. Hybridization and detection by the ECL method appeared to be a convenient alternative to radioactive probes for screening E. coli isolates for ETEC.
Six hundred and seventy-five Escherichia coli isolates obtained from 225 diarrhoeal children less than five years of age were tested for adherence to HeLa cells and for hybridisation with DNA probes ...for genes conferring aggregative adherence (AggA), localised adherence (LA) and diffuse adherence (DA) to assess the usefulness of a recently developed DNA probe for AggA of enteroaggregative E. coli (EAggEC). The strains were further analysed with the DNA probes for heat-labile enterotoxin (LT), heat-stable enterotoxin (ST), Shiga-like toxins (SLT I and SLT II) and for enteroinvasiveness and adherent strains were all negative for these properties. The HeLa cell assay and DNA probe assays showed excellent agreement in identifying LA and DA positive isolates. However, significant disparities occurred in the case of AggA positive isolates, and the DNA probe failed to identify 31.9% (15 of 47) of the EAggEC identified by the HeLa cell adherence assay. The failure of the DNA probe to identify all the EAggEC indicated that there may be a high degree of genetic heterogeneity for the expression of AggA, and development of more DNA probes is necessary to detect all the possible genetic variants of EAggEC.
