Background
The aim of this study was to investigate the prevalence of epidemiologic and physician‐diagnosed pollen‐induced AR (PiAR) in the grasslands of northern China and to study the impact of the ...intensity and time of pollen exposure on PiAR prevalence.
Methods
A multistage, clustered and proportionately stratified random sampling with a field interviewer‐administered survey study was performed together with skin prick tests (SPT) and measurements of the daily pollen count.
Results
A total of 6043 subjects completed the study, with a proportion of 32.4% epidemiologic AR and 18.5% PiAR. The prevalence was higher in males than females (19.6% vs 17.4%, P = .024), but no difference between the two major residential and ethnic groups (Han and Mongolian) was observed. Subjects from urban areas showed higher prevalence of PiAR than rural areas (23.1% vs 14.0%, P < .001). Most PiAR patients were sensitized to two or more pollens (79.4%) with artemisia, chenopodium, and humulus scandens being the most common pollen types, which were similarly found as the top three sensitizing pollen allergens by SPT. There were significant regional differences in the prevalence of epidemiologic AR (from 18.6% to 52.9%) and PiAR (from 10.5% to 31.4%) among the six areas investigated. PiAR symptoms were positively associated with pollen counts, temperature, and precipitation (P < .05), but negatively with wind speed and pressure P < .05).
Conclusion
Pollen‐induced AR (PiAR) prevalence in the investigated region is extremely high due to high seasonal pollen exposure, which was influenced by local environmental and climate conditions.

units such as Mach-Zehnder interferometers (MZIs) for an input dimension N to realize typical computing operations (convolutions and matrix multiplication), resulting in limited scalability and consuming excessive power. Here, we propose the integrated diffractive optical network for implementing parallel Fourier transforms, convolution operations and application-specific optical computing using two ultracompact diffractive cells (Fourier transform operation) and only N MZIs. The footprint and energy consumption scales linearly with the input data dimension, instead of the quadratic scaling in the traditional ONN framework. A ~10-fold reduction in both footprint and energy consumption, as well as equal high accuracy with previous MZI-based ONNs was experimentally achieved for computations performed on the MNIST and Fashion-MNIST datasets. The integrated diffractive optical network (IDNN) chip demonstrates a promising avenue towards scalable and low-power-consumption optical computational chips for optical-artificial-intelligence.
Complex-valued neural networks have many advantages over their real-valued counterparts. Conventional digital electronic computing platforms are incapable of executing truly complex-valued ...representations and operations. In contrast, optical computing platforms that encode information in both phase and magnitude can execute complex arithmetic by optical interference, offering significantly enhanced computational speed and energy efficiency. However, to date, most demonstrations of optical neural networks still only utilize conventional real-valued frameworks that are designed for digital computers, forfeiting many of the advantages of optical computing such as efficient complex-valued operations. In this article, we highlight an optical neural chip (ONC) that implements truly complex-valued neural networks. We benchmark the performance of our complex-valued ONC in four settings: simple Boolean tasks, species classification of an Iris dataset, classifying nonlinear datasets (Circle and Spiral), and handwriting recognition. Strong learning capabilities (i.e., high accuracy, fast convergence and the capability to construct nonlinear decision boundaries) are achieved by our complex-valued ONC compared to its real-valued counterpart.
About 3196 EA-type binaries (EAs) were observed by LAMOST by 2017 June 16 and their spectral types were derived. Meanwhile, the stellar atmospheric parameters of 2020 EAs were determined. In this ...paper, those EAs are cataloged and their physical properties and evolutionary states are investigated. The period distribution of EAs suggests that the period limit of tidal locking for the close binaries is about 6 days. It is found that the metallicity of EAs is higher than that of EW-type binaries (EWs), indicating that EAs are generally younger than EWs and they are the progenitors of EWs. The metallicities of long-period EWs ( days) are the same as those of EAs with the same periods, while their values of Log (g) are usually smaller than those of EAs. These support the evolutionary process that EAs evolve into long-period EWs through the combination of angular momentum loss (AML) via magnetic braking and case A mass transfer. For short-period EWs, their metallicities are lower than those of EAs, while their gravitational accelerations are higher. These reveal that they may be formed from cool short-period EAs through AML via magnetic braking with little mass transfer. For some EWs with high metallicities, they may be contaminated by material from the evolution of unseen neutron stars and black holes or they have third bodies that may help them to form rapidly through a short timescale of pre-contact evolution. The present investigation suggests that the modern EW populations may have formed through a combination of these mechanisms.
Therapeutic agents that block the calcitonin gene-related peptide (CGRP) signaling pathway are a highly anticipated and promising new drug class for migraine therapy, especially after reports that ...small-molecule CGRP-receptor antagonists are efficacious for both acute migraine treatment and migraine prevention. Using XenoMouse technology, we successfully generated AMG 334, a fully human monoclonal antibody against the CGRP receptor. Here we show that AMG 334 competes with (125)I-CGRP binding to the human CGRP receptor, with a Ki of 0.02 nM. AMG 334 fully inhibited CGRP-stimulated cAMP production with an IC50 of 2.3 nM in cell-based functional assays (human CGRP receptor) and was 5000-fold more selective for the CGRP receptor than other human calcitonin family receptors, including adrenomedullin, calcitonin, and amylin receptors. The potency of AMG 334 at the cynomolgus monkey (cyno) CGRP receptor was similar to that at the human receptor, with an IC50 of 5.7 nM, but its potency at dog, rabbit, and rat receptors was significantly reduced (>5000-fold). Therefore, in vivo target coverage of AMG 334 was assessed in cynos using the capsaicin-induced increase in dermal blood flow model. AMG 334 dose-dependently prevented capsaicin-induced increases in dermal blood flow on days 2 and 4 postdosing. These results indicate AMG 334 is a potent, selective, full antagonist of the CGRP receptor and show in vivo dose-dependent target coverage in cynos. AMG 334 is currently in clinical development for the prevention of migraine.
Abstract Noting the weakest modulation and relatively high metal abundance of the ab-type RR Lyrae star V838 Cyg, we collected the photometric data of this star from several sky surveys to carry out ...an in-depth analysis. The O − C diagram shows that the pulsation period of V838 Cyg increases linearly over a long timescale. In a reanalysis of the high-precision Kepler data, we confirmed the modulation with a period of 59.45 ± 0.07 days found by Benkő et al., and also found an additional weak modulation with a longer period (840 ± 21 days). After a series of analyses, we incline to the view that the mechanisms causing the two modulations are different: the former is more similar to the typical Blazhko effect, while the mechanism leading to the latter may be an extrinsic factor. We also collected and compared the modulation and physical parameters of other Blazhko RR Lyrae stars from several works in the literature, and find that there is a potential negative correlation between the modulation amplitude (or upper limit of amplitude) and the metal abundance. We infer that the relatively high metal abundance will promote convection in the outer stellar atmosphere, and then inhibit those factors (turbulence, shock wave, etc.) that may cause Blazhko modulation. Future observations and research work can be carried out with reference to this viewpoint. We also introduce the moiré effects that appear in the Kepler long-cadence light curves and their possible interference in the previous analyses.

Due to the poor self-regeneration of brain tissue, stem cell transplantation therapy is purported to enable the replacement of lost neurons after traumatic brain injury (TBI). The ...main challenge of brain regeneration is whether the transplanted cells can survive and carry out neuronal functions in the lesion area. The brain is a complex neuronal network consisting of various types of cells that significantly influence on each other, and the survival of the implanted stem cells in brain is critically influenced by the surrounding cells. Although stem cell-based therapy is developing rapidly, most previous studies just focus on apply single type of stem cells as cell source. Here, we found that co-culturing human umbilical cord mesenchymal stem cells (hUC-MSCs) directly with the activated astrocytes benefited to the proliferation and neuron differentiation of hUC-MSCs in vitro. In this study, hUC-MSCs and the activated astrocytes were seeded in RADA16-BDNF peptide scaffold (R-B-SPH scaffold), a specifical self-assembling peptide hydrogel, in which the environment promoted the differentiation of typical neuron-like cells with neurites extending in three-dimensional directions. Moreover, the results showed co-culture of hUC-MSCs and activated astrocytes promoted more BDNF secretion which may benefit to both neural differentiation of ectogenic hUC-MSCs and endogenic neurogenesis. In order to promote migration of the transplanted hUC-MSCs to the host brain, the hUC-MSCs were forced with CXC chemokine receptor 4 (CXCR4). We found that the moderate-sized lesion cavity, but not the large cavity caused by TBI was repaired via the transplantation of hUC-MSCsCXCR4 and activated astrocytes embedded in R-B-SPH scaffolds. The functional neural repair for TBI demonstrated in this study is mainly due to the transplantation system of double cells, hUC-MSCs and activated astrocytes. We believe that this novel cell transplantation system offers a promising treatment option for cell replacement therapy for TBI.
In this reach, we specifically linked RGIDKRHWNSQ, a functional peptide derived from BDNF, to the C-terminal of RADARADARADARADA (RADA16) to structure a functional self-assembling peptide hydrogel scaffold, RADA16-BDNF (R-B-SPH scaffold) for the better transplantation of the double cell unit. Also, the novel scaffold was used as cell-carrier for transplantation double cell unit (hUC-MSCs/astrocyte) for treating traumatic brain injury. The results of this study showing that R-B-SPH scaffold was pliancy and flexibility to fit the brain lesion cavity and promotes the outgrowth of axons and dendrites of the neurons derived from hUC-MSCs in vitro and in vivo, indicating the 3D R-B-SPH scaffold provided a suitable microenvironment for hUC-MSC survival, proliferation and differentiation. Also, our results showing the double-cells transplantation system (hUC-MSCs/astrocyte) may be a novel cell-based therapeutic strategy for neuroregeneration after TBI with potential value for clinical application.
Limited numbers of studies demonstrated obesity-induced macrophage infiltration in skeletal muscle (SM), but dynamics of immune cell accumulation and contribution of T cells to SM insulin resistance ...are understudied.
T cells and macrophage markers were examined in SM of obese humans by reverse transcription-PCR (RT-PCR). Mice were fed high-fat diet (HFD) for 2-24 weeks, and time course of macrophage and T-cell accumulation was assessed by flow cytometry and quantitative RT-PCR. Extramyocellular adipose tissue (EMAT) was quantified by high-resolution micro-computed tomography (CT), and correlation to T-cell number in SM was examined. CD11a-/- mice and C57BL/6 mice were treated with CD11a-neutralizing antibody to determine the role of CD11a in T-cell accumulation in SM. To investigate the involvement of Janus kinase/signal transducer and activator of transcription (JAK/STAT), the major pathway for T helper I (TH1) cytokine interferon-γ, in SM and adipose tissue inflammation and insulin resistance, mice were treated with a JAK1/JAK2 inhibitor, baricitinib.
Macrophage and T-cell markers were upregulated in SM of obese compared with lean humans. SM of obese mice had higher expression of inflammatory cytokines, with macrophages increasing by 2 weeks on HFD and T cells increasing by 8 weeks. The immune cells were localized in EMAT. Micro-CT revealed that EMAT expansion in obese mice correlated with T-cell infiltration and insulin resistance. Deficiency or neutralization of CD11a reduced T-cell accumulation in SM of obese mice. T cells polarized into a proinflammatory TH1 phenotype, with increased STAT1 phosphorylation in SM of obese mice. In vivo inhibition of JAK/STAT pathway with baricitinib reduced T-cell numbers and activation markers in SM and adipose tissue and improved insulin resistance in obese mice.
Obesity-induced expansion of EMAT in SM was associated with accumulation and proinflammatory polarization of T cells, which may regulate SM metabolic functions through paracrine mechanisms. Obesity-associated SM 'adiposopathy' may thus have an important role in the development of insulin resistance and inflammation.

There are strong ties between land cover patterns and soil erosion and sediment yield in watersheds. The spatial configuration of land cover has recently become an important aspect of the study of geomorphological processes related to erosion within watersheds. Many studies have used multivariate regression techniques to explore the response of soil erosion and sediment yield to land cover patterns in watersheds. However, many landscape metrics are highly correlated and may result in redundancy, which violates the assumptions of a traditional least-squares approach, thus leading to singular solutions or otherwise biased parameter estimates and confidence intervals. Here, we investigated the landscape patterns within watersheds in the Upper Du River watershed (8973km2) in China and examined how the spatial patterns of land cover are related to the soil erosion and sediment yield of watersheds using hydrological modeling and partial least-squares regression (PLSR). The results indicate that the watershed soil erosion and sediment yield are closely associated with the land cover patterns. At the landscape level, landscape characteristics, such as Shannon’s diversity index (SHDI), aggregation index (AI), largest patch index (LPI), contagion (CONTAG), and patch cohesion index (COHESION), were identified as the primary metrics controlling the watershed soil erosion and sediment yield. The landscape characteristics in watersheds could account for as much as 65% and 74% of the variation in soil erosion and sediment yield, respectively. Greater interspersion and an increased number of patch land cover types may significantly accelerate soilerosion and increase sediment export. PLSR can be used to simply determine the relationships between land-cover patterns and watershed soil erosion and sediment yield, providing quantitative information to allow decision makers to make better choices regarding landscape planning. With readily available remote sensing data and rapid developments in geographic information system (GIS) technology, this practical and simple PLSR approach could be applied to a variety of other watersheds.
