Bio-diesel has become more popular in recent timesas of its low after emissions and due to its extraction from renewable resources. Transesterification process is used to extract the bio-diesel from ...oil either by edible oil or by non-edible oil. The use of biodiesel has created a constructive effect in solving issues of decrement in petroleum stocks. Biodiesel can be extracted with the use of edible &non-edible vegetable oils. However, use of edible oils can threaten the food storage, so non-edible oil, which is also acknowledged as second-generation feedstock, can be used as another option in extraction of biodiesel from oil. This paper has explained in detailed some of the categories of non-edible vegetables oils have higher quality of biodiesel. In this review, an endeavor has done on bio-diesel production of various non-edible oil and its influence on internal combustion engines performance and emissions characteristics.
Sacral agenesis (part of the caudal regression syndrome) is a rare and severe sacral developmental abnormality. It is a congenital malformation of unknown aetiology with possible involvement of ...genetic and teratogenic factors. It is described by various degrees of developmental failure, the most extreme and rare being sirenomelia or mermaid syndrome. The associated malformations comprise anorectal, vertebral, urological, genital, and lower limb anomalies. Approximately 15-20% mothers of these children have insulin dependent diabetes mellitus. The case is being reported for its rarity and educative value because prognosis is good in isolated sacral agenesis.

Neuroendocrine tumours are rare and have been reported to arise in a number of structures within the head and neck. We present the case of a 55-year-old lady who presented a T1-N2-M0 neuroendocrine ...tumour of the tongue and right level 2A lymphadenopathy. The patient underwent a partial right-sided glossectomy and a modified radical neck dissection. Given the rarity of small cell neuroendocrine tumours of the tongue, there is some ambiguity with respect to classification. Treatment for neuroendocrine tumours is most effective with a multimodality approach and a poor response to chemotherapy is an important prognostic indicator. Radiotherapy, combined with chemotherapy, has shown the most promise with complete resolution of the primary tumour and metastatic disease. Due to the rarity of neuroendocrine tumours and the lack of favourable prognostic indicators, defining optimal treatment remains difficult. As a result, they continue to have a poor overall prognosis.
Hamstring tendon autografts are used for reconstruction of the anterior cruciate ligament. This study tested the hypothesis that a 5-strand hamstring autograft construct is superior in strength to a ...4-strand construct. Four-strand and 5-strand tendon grafts constructs were prepared from ovine flexor tendons and then tested in a uniaxial electromechanical load system with suspensory fixation. The 4-strand and 5-strand constructs were pre-conditioned, stress-relaxed and loaded to ultimate failure. Stress-relaxation, stiffness and ultimate load were compared using a one-way ANOVA. There were no statistical differences in stress-relaxation, initial stiffness, secondary stiffness or ultimate load between 4-strand and 5-strand split tendon graft constructs. Inconsistent failure patterns for both 4-strand and 5-strand constructs were observed. The additional strand in the 5-strand construct may be shielded from stress with additional weakness secondary to the use of suspensory fixation. The potential biological benefit of religamentization and bony integration, with more autologous tissue in the intra-articular space and bony tunnels remains unknown.
Cerebral vasospasm resistant to medical management frequently requires intra-arterial spasmolysis. Angiographic resolution of vasospasm does not provide physiologic data on the adequacy of ...reperfusion. We recorded pre- and postspasmolysis PbO(2) data in the endovascular suite to determine whether this physiologic parameter could be used to determine when successful reperfusion was established.
Eight patients with 10 Licox monitors and cerebral vasospasm underwent intra-arterial spasmolysis. Pre- and postspasmolytic PbO(2) was recorded for comparison. Other physiologic parameters, such as CPP, ICP, SaO(2), and Fio(2), were also recorded.
Mean prespasmolysis PbO(2) recordings were 35.2 and 27.3 for the mild-to-moderate and moderate-to-severe vasospasm group, respectively. Mean postspasmolysis PbO(2) increased to 40.3 and 38.4, respectively, which was statistically significant (P < .05) for both groups. In 100% of instances in the moderate-to-severe group and 83% of instances in mild-to-moderate group, the mean PbO(2) increased after spasmolysis and correlated with improvement in angiographic vasospasm. Other physiologic parameters, such as CPP, ICP, SaO(2), and Fio(2), did not show any statistically significant difference before and after spasmolysis.
PbO(2) monitoring provides the interventionalist with an objective physiologic parameter to determine adequate spasmolysis. Further investigation is needed to establish target PbO(2) rates indicative of adequate reperfusion, which can be used in the endovascular suite.
Dentigerous cysts are usually encountered in the practice of pediatric dentistry. The treatment modalities range from marsupialization to enucleation of the lesion and are based on the involvement of ...the lesion with the adjacent structures. However, loss of a permanent tooth in the management of a dentigerous cyst can be devastating to a child who has already a congenitally missing tooth. The first case describes the technique of marsupialization in which we extracted the grossly carious deciduous 1st molar and created a window through the extracted socket to decompress the lesion. In this case the 2nd premolars were congenitally missing on both sides of the mandible for which we had not gone for enucleation of the dentigerous cyst along with the developing 1st premolar. The second case is a developmental type of a big dentigerous cyst where marsupialization was followed by enucleation of the cystic lining but without removal of the affected tooth. Both the teeth erupted in the oral cavity.
Peppers are common food ingredients used worldwide. They are also added in traditional antidiarrhoeal formulations of different herbs. Piperine (1) is an alkaloidal constituent of black and long ...peppers recently established as a bioavailability enhancer of drugs and other substances. As a part of efforts to study its effects on the gastrointestinal tract, the experiments were performed to determine the rationale, if any, for its use in traditional antidiarrhoeal formulations. Antidiarrhoeal activity of 1 against castor oil, MgSO4 and arachidonic acid was studied in mice. It significantly inhibited diarrhoea produced by these cathartics at 8 and 32 mg/kg p.o. dose. Inhibition of castor oil induced enteropooling by 1 suggests its inhibitory effect on prostaglandins. The results validate the rationale for its use in traditional antidiarrhoeal formulations.
Nimesulide, a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID), is administered orally or rectally twice daily for a variety of inflammation and pain states. This is a unique NSAID, not only because of ...its chemical structure but also because of its specific affinity to inhibit cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2), thus exerting milder effects on the gastrointestinal mucosa. Current data on selective COX-2 inhibitors suggest that they may have an efficacy similar to that of standard NSAIDs. Initial general clinical experience with selective COX-2 inhibitors appears to show that they are particularly promising in individuals at risk because of renal diseases, hypertension or congestive heart failure. Various experimental models and clinical studies have demonstrated the anti-inflammatory efficacy of nimesulide. Nimesulide is superior, or at least comparable in efficacy, to other NSAIDs, but is better tolerated and has less potential for adverse reactions. Thus, selective COX-2 inhibitors should have anti-inflammatory effects devoid of side effects on the kidney and stomach. They may also demonstrate new important therapeutic benefits as anticancer agents as well as help prevention of premature labour and even retard the progression of Alzheimer's disease. No clinically significant drug interactions have been reported for nimesulide. Not much has been reported about the pharmaceutical aspects of nimesulide. Its poor aqueous solubility poses bioavailability problems in-vivo. This could be overcome by the formation of inclusion complexes with beta-cyclodextrin, as has been reported by various researchers. However, absence of any in-vivo data regarding the relative absorption of nimesulide from beta-cyclodextrin complex compared with that from conventional formulations of the drug makes the use of such fast-releasing complexes rather questionable. Only a limited number of assay procedures (HPLC, spectrophotometric, spectrofluorimetric) for the determination of nimesulide and its metabolite in plasma/urine samples or in dosage forms have been reported in the literature. The purpose of this review is to provide a concise overview of the pharmacological and pharmaceutical profile of nimesulide. Various investigations carried out recently are reported, although older references to research performed on nimesulide have also been included, where appropriate.

Sn) NMR spectroscopic studies. Their protonation behavior and stability constants were investigated and corresponding thermodynamic parameters were calculated using pH-potentiometric technique. It was suggested on basis of potentiometric studies that the complexes formed are invariably of 1:2 stoichiometry irrespective of ligand-to-metal ratio. The stability constants represented by log β values at 298 K were found to be in the order: ABP > APAP > BPPA > ASA. The free energy of formation of these complexes has a negative value, which shows that formation of the complexes is a spontaneous process. Also, the negative value of standard enthalpy change indicates that reaction of ligands with metal ion is exothermic and this validates the decrease in the value of log β with increasing temperature. Entropy change is positive which seems to be the driving force for complex formation.
