The main aim of this study is to analyse the influence of tourist satisfaction with the tourism offering on tourist expenditure in the destination. Quantitative analysis is based on 523 ...self-administered questionnaires collected from tourists visiting Rijeka and the Opatija Riviera (Croatia) during the summer of 2014. Principal component analysis was conducted on 22 elements of the offering in order to reduce the dimensionality of satisfaction with the tourism offering, resulting in four dimensions of satisfaction. Regression analysis was conducted with the log of daily expenditure as a dependent variable. The results revealed that only one satisfaction dimension (related to the diversity of facilities) out of the four proved to be a significant predictor of tourist expenditure in the destination. The study also confirms that family income, type of accommodation, past behaviour and length of stay significantly influence daily expenditure.
The innovative capability of an organisation depends on the intellectual capital that it possesses. Our research attempts to examine the influence individual intellectual capital components have on ...the innovativeness and consequent growth of a company. This article proposes a classification and measurement method of intellectual capital, highlighting the following three components; human capital, organisational capital, and social capital. Our aim is to explain innovation performance and company growth by showing the importance of each intellectual capital dimension on a specific type of innovation (product, process, marketing, and organisational). To this end, a questionnaire survey was performed on 2800 Slovenian and 1700 Croatian small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in the tourism area. A data sample of 359 companies was analysed using SPSS 19 and the EQS 6 statistical programme to employ multivariate data analyses techniques through developed hypotheses.

Purpose
The purpose of this study is to detect the differences in satisfaction levels with regard to different elements of the city tourism offering during the season and off-season. Furthermore, the ...aim is to find out what factors determine the satisfaction of season and off-season tourists.
Design/methodology/approach
This paper is based on the results of a survey conducted during 2016 in Opatija and Rijeka (Croatia). The analyses were conducted on a sample of 1,249 respondents. Data analysis included principal component analyses, ANOVA and series of regression analyses.
Findings
Results confirmed that there is a significant difference in overall satisfaction, as well as in all five satisfaction dimensions, between tourists visiting the cities during the season and those visiting in the pre- and post-season. In addition, simple regression analyses revealed that tourists staying in those cities during the peak season expressed a statistically significant higher level of satisfaction than those visiting in the pre- and post-season. However, no statistically significant difference was found in overall satisfaction and in four out of five satisfaction dimensions, between pre- and post-season tourists.
Practical implications
The findings have relevant implications for destination managers in their further decisions aimed at developing a more satisfactory tourism offering in the season and off-season.
Originality/value
The main contribution of this paper lies in the connection between tourist satisfaction and the season of their visit, as previous studies have rarely considered the season when analysing tourist satisfaction with the destination offering.
Energy and environmental issues are nowadays becoming more prominent, and business subjects in tourism should dedicate more effort to energy management. This can lead to a reduction in energy-related ...expenses, and it shows social responsibility and concern for the environment. In order to determine the informedness of managers in tourism concerning energy issues, empirical research was conducted in all seven counties of Adriatic Croatia. The questionnaire was filled out by 254 managers in tourism in such a way that the research covered business management (hotel, villa, camp, and apartment managers), managers in tourist boards, managers in units of local self-government, and managers among other stakeholders directly or indirectly involved in tourism. The questionnaire consisted of closed-ended questions answered using the Likert scale with 1 being the worst and 5 the best. The questionnaire’s reliability was tested using factor analysis and internal consistency analysis. The results showed that managers still have insufficient knowledge concerning the impact of energy and its link to tourism. Additionally, 66.4% of the participants considered their knowledge regarding energy issues in tourism to be poor or negligible. It can be concluded that continued education for managers is required as higher awareness leads to “greener” attitudes among managers in tourism.
The main purpose of this study was to analyse the level and structure of expenditure of hotel guests and private accommodation guests. Moreover, the aim was to determine the factors that influence ...their expenditure levels. The results are based on a survey conducted from January to December 2016 in Opatija and Rijeka, two neighbouring seaside Croatian tourist destinations. The sample consisted of 984 respondents divided into two groups, those staying in private accommodation and those staying in hotels. Descriptive analysis was used for sample profiling, and one-way analysis of variance was conducted to determine significant differences between hotel and private accommodation guests in terms of their socio-demographic and trip characteristics as well as in terms of their expenditure levels and structures. Finally, multiple regression analyses were conducted to identify the expenditure determinants for both groups of respondents.
The main findings indicate that there is a statistically significant difference in expenditure levels between hotel guests and guests staying in private accommodation. Furthermore, income, length of stay, trip organisation and traveling group have proven to be significant predictors of expenditure in the destination for both groups. However, it was found that the two groups differ with regard to other expenditure predictors.

Considering that the role of local people in the development of sustainable tourism is crucial, it isof great importance to continuously measure, observe and monitor their perception and attitudetowards tourism activities in their community. Taking into account the economic, socio-cultural andenvironmental impacts of tourism, this study examines the role of residents’ perceptions of theseimpacts, their level of information about tourism activities and socio-demographic characteristicsin determining the extent of their support for tourism development. Istria was chosen as the studyarea because it is the region with the highest number of tourists in Croatia. Due to the continuousincrease in the number of tourists, there is a need to find out how residents deal with such trendsand support such development. A field study was conducted, in which 865 completed questionnaireswere correctly recorded. The collected data were analyzed using the methods of descriptive statisticalanalysis, reliability analysis and regression analysis. The results show that the more positive theperception of economic and socio-cultural impacts of tourism, the greater the support of local peoplefor further tourism development. In contrast, perceptions of environmental impacts of tourism andsocio-demographic characteristics of residents were not found to be significant predictors of residents’support. An interesting result is the fact that there are no significant differences in support for tourismdevelopment between residents living on the coast of Istria and those living far from the sea.
