Since the first report in Hubei, China, COVID-19 rapidly spread throughout the world and the World Health Organization (WHO) declared COVID-19 as global Pandemic on March 11, 2020. The first ...confirmed case in Brazil was on February 26, 2020. These outbreaks pose a greater threat to patients with cancer in terms of morbidity and mortality as well as for the healthcare system professionals. The purpose of this editorial/letter is to provide specialist based recommendations for the treatment of hepatobiliary tumors during the pandemic period.
This work proposes the use of Near Infrared Spectroscopy (NIR) and multivariate analysis to identify and quantify potential adulterants in grated hard cheeses. The study includes permitted additives ...(microcellulose and silicon dioxide) at levels higher than those regulated, as well as non-permitted substances like wheat flour, wheat semolina, and sawdust. An authentication approach was developed using One-Class Partial Least Squares (OC-PLS) and Data-Driven Soft Independent Modeling of Class Analogy (DD-SIMCA). Excellent results were obtained by DD-SIMCA using multiplicative scattering correction (MSC), projecting all unadulterated grated hard cheese samples within the acceptance area (i.e., 100% of sensitivity in both the training and test sets) and 77 out 80 adulterated samples outside the acceptance area (i.e., 96% of specificity in the test set). Additionally, satisfactory quantification results were obtained by Partial Least Squares (PLS) for the study of microcellulose, wheat flour, and sawdust, with root mean square error of prediction (RMSEP) values of 1.217, 1.317, and 0.562% w/w, R2pred values of 0.945, 0.945, and 0.957, and relative error of prediction (REP) values of 4.285, 4.271, and 4.836%, respectively. The proposed methodology provides a simple, rapid, and low-cost analytical tool to identify and quantify adulterations in grated hard cheeses, with the aim to protect consumers from deceptive practices that compromise the nutritional quality of this widely consumed food.
ABSTRACT Objective: to suggest a script for surgical oncology assistance in COVID-19 pandemic in Brazil. Method: a narrative review and a “brainstorming” consensus were carried out after discussion ...with more than 350 Brazilian specialists and renowned surgeons from Portugal, France, Italy and United States of America. Results: consensus on testing for COVID-19: 1- All patients to be operated should be tested between 24 and 48 before the procedure; 2- The team that has contact with sick or symptomatic patients should be tested; 3 - Chest tomography was suggested to investigate pulmonary changes. Consensus on protection of care teams: 1 - Use of surgical masks inside the hospitals. Use of N95 masks for all professionals in the operating room; 2 - Selection of cases for minimally invasive surgery and maximum pneumoperitoneal aspiration before removal of the surgical specimen; 2 - Optimization of the number of people in teams, with a minimum number of professionals, reducing their occupational exposure, the consumption of protective equipment and the circulation of people in the hospital environment; 3 - Isolation of contaminated patients. Priority consensus: 1- Construction of service priorities; 2 - Interdisciplinary discussion on minimally invasive or conventional pathways. Conclusion: the Brazilian Society of Surgical Oncology (BSSO) suggests a script for coping with oncological treatment, remembering that the impoundment in the assistance of these cases, can configure a new wave of overload in health systems.

Ceramics with near-zero thermal expansion are rare, especially when this feature includes near room temperatures. Phases from A2M3O12 and ABM3O12 were identified as candidates for near-zero thermal ...expansion due to their structural features.
It is supported by in situ X-ray Powder Diffraction and Raman Spectroscopy data that the ZrMg1-xZnxMo3O12 system (0≤x ≤ 0.3) presents zero thermal expansion over a wide temperature range, including room temperature. Partial substitution of Mg2+ in octahedral sites by larger Zn2+ is followed by unexpected unit-cell contraction, possibly due to covalency contraction effect of Zn–O bonds.
ZrMgMo3O12 presents αl = - 4.28 × 10−7 °C-1, while partial substitution reduced αl to the values as low as - 2.02 × 10−7 °C-1 and - 2.54 × 10−7 °C-1 for x = 0.1 and x = 0.2, respectively. This feature might be ascribed to covalency contraction of Zn–O bonds and increase of rigidity of octahedra. High-temperature Raman spectroscopy revealed blue-shift of some frequency modes, responsible for near-zero thermal expansion in this system.
This system is a good candidate for thermal shock resistance application, since presents near-zero thermal expansion and does not show phase transition close to room temperature and is not hygroscopic.
Liver metastases of colorectal cancer are frequent and potentially fatal event in the evolution of patients with these tumors.
In this module, was contextualized the clinical situations and ...parameterized epidemiological data and results of the various treatment modalities established.
Was realized deep discussion on detecting and staging metastatic colorectal cancer, as well as employment of imaging methods in the evaluation of response to instituted systemic therapy.
The next step was based on the definition of which patients would have their metastases considered resectable and how to expand the amount of patients elegible for modalities with curative intent.
Were presented clinical, pathological and molecular prognostic factors, validated to be taken into account in clinical practice.
Background
Risk‐reducing operations are an important part of the management of hereditary predisposition to cancer. In selected cases, they can considerably reduce the morbidity and mortality ...associated with cancer in this population.
Objectives
The Brazilian Society of Surgical Oncology (BSSO) developed this guideline to establish national benchmarks for cancer risk‐reducing operations.
Methods
The guideline was prepared from May to December 2021 by a multidisciplinary team of experts to discuss the surgical management of cancer predisposition syndromes. Fourteen questions were defined and assigned to expert groups that reviewed the literature and drafted preliminary recommendations. Following a review by the coordinators and a second review by all participants, the groups made final adjustments, classified the level of evidence, and voted on the recommendations.
Results
For all questions including risk‐reduction bilateral salpingo‐oophorectomy, hysterectomy, and mastectomy, major agreement was achieved by the participants, always using accessible alternatives.
Conclusion
This and its accompanying article represent the first guideline in cancer risk reduction surgery developed by the BSSO, and it should serve as an important reference for the management of families with cancer predisposition.
Passion fruit is widely consumed due to its pleasant flavour and aroma acidity, and it is considered very important a source of minerals and vitamins. It is used in many products such as ice-cream, ...mousses and, especially, juices. However, the processing of passion fruit juice may modify the composition and biodisponibility of the bioactive compounds. Investigations of the effects of processing on nutritional components in tropical juices are scarce. Frequently, only losses of vitamin C are evaluated. The objective of this paper is to investigate how some operations of passion fruit juice processing (formulation/homogeneization/thermal treatment) affect this product's chemical and physicochemical characteristics. The results showed that the chemical and physicochemical characteristics are little affected by the processing although a reduction in vitamin C contents and anthocyanin, large quantities of carotenoids was verified even after the pasteurization stage.
CPAP applied by a nasal mask is the gold standard treatment of obstructive sleep apnea. Oronasal masks are an alternative interface that can be used, especially in subjects with predominant oral ...breathing. However, oronasal masks have higher costs, are associated with larger leaks and higher residual apnea-hypopnea index, and in some cases may be ineffective.
