Neutral pion photoproduction has been measured from 550 to 1500 MeV with the GRAAL facility, located at the ESRF in Grenoble. Differential cross-section and beam asymmetry have been measured over a ...wide angular range. These high-precision data improve significantly the database for the beam asymmetry in the second and third resonance regions covering for the first time the energy domain 1100-1500 MeV. New partial-wave analyses including these data are presented for which the beam asymmetry brings crucial constraints.
Photonuclear methods used earlier in experiments at electron accelerators have been adapted for femtosecond pulsed lasers. In particular, the problem of measuring wide electron spectra under ...conditions of a high counting rate and, hence, a high probability of pulse pileup has been solved. To provide long-term stability of electron beams from plasma, a magnetic spectrometer combined with a magnetic-induction sensor has been developed. This spectrometer is capable of measuring the electron-beam characteristics in each ultrashort laser pulse. The results of the experiments carried out with the femtosecond laser system at the International Laser Center of the Moscow State University are presented.
The differential cross section for the reaction p(γ,ηp) has been measured from threshold to 1100 MeV photon laboratory energy. For the first time, the region of the S11(1535) resonance is fully ...covered in a photoproduction experiment and will allow a precise extraction of its parameters at the photon point. These high precision data together with the already measured beam asymmetry data will provide stringent constraints on the extraction of new couplings of baryon resonances to the η meson.
Differential and total cross section measurements on η′ photoproduction were published by the CLAS Collaboration (M. Dugger et al., Phys.Rev.Lett.96, 062001 (2006) and M. Williams et al., ...Phys.Rev.C80, 045213 (2009)) for center-of-mass energies from near the threshold up to 2.84 GeV, and by the CB-ELSA-TAPS Collaboration (V. Crede et al., Phys.Rev.C80, 055202 (2009)) up to 2.36 GeV and also making a precise threshold scan of the differential cross section in the 1446 – 1527.4 MeV γ beam energy range. However, the wide information about reaction cross sections are not sufficient to understand the role of resonances involved in the process. Different theoretical works stressed the importance to have also polarization observables in order to solve the ambiguity in the choice of the parameters used in their models. We present the analysis of the η′ photoproduction off the proton, identifying the meson via the γγ, π0π0η, and π+π−η decay modes by using the GRAAL apparatus; and we show the preliminary GRAAL results on the beam asymmetry Σ from the threshold (1.446 GeV) up to 1.5 GeV.
A brief review of the works devoted to studying the photonuclear reactions near the threshold at the LUE-8.5 MeV linear electron accelerator of the Institute for Nuclear Research of the Russian ...Academy of Sciences and the terawatt femtosecond laser complex of the International Laser Center at Moscow State University is provided. The main focus of attention is the simulation of the experiments using the GEANT-4 code. This allowed us to compare the possibilities of different methods and determine the main directions of future research.
Application of a photonuclear technique is considered as a nondestructive method for detecting the unauthorized transporting of camouflaged fissile nuclear material in cargo containers. The ...advantages of the technique (the use of time selection and the analysis of energy distributions of delayed neutrons) are demonstrated. The operating modes of the accelerator were optimized by modeling. A version of a neutron scintillation spectrometer based on a stylbene monocrystal is presented along with its schematic and main parameters.
The only recent η′ photoproduction data off proton available in literature are the differential and total cross sections published by the CLAS and CB-ELSA-TAPS Collaborations. However, the wide ...information about reaction cross sections are not sufficient to understand the role of resonances involved in the process. Different theoretical works stressed the importance to measure also polarization observables in order to solve the ambiguities in the choice of the parameters used in their models. We present the analysis of η′ photoproduction off the proton analysis, identifying the investigated meson by the π+π−η, π0π0η, and γγ decay modes by using the GRAAL apparatus; and we show the preliminary GRAAL results on the beam asymmetry Σ at beam energy of 1475 MeV.
It is important for national security to control the movement of dangerous or strategically cargo such as explosives, radioactive materials, rare and precious metals. This control can be provided by ...scanning transport containers by gamma rays. In this report the existing technique for scanning (dual energy method) is considered and the alternative method based on measuring the energy distribution of gamma rays is proposed. For estimation perspectives of the proposing method, the corresponding simulation was conducted by using the GEANT4 toolkit. The example of the algorithm of reconstruction the chemical composition of the scanned object is also considered. In addition the experiment for estimation energy resolution of the detector based on a scintillation crystal BGO and SiPM was carried out.
