Abstract
ILC is an electron-positron linear collider based on Superconducting linear accelerator. Linear collider is the only solution to realize high energy electron-positron collision beyond the ...limit of synchrotron radiation energy loss by ring colliders. Beam current of injector of linear colliders is much larger than that of ring colliders because the beam is not reusable. Providing an enough amount of particles, especially positron is a technical issue. In this article, we present a design of electron driven positron source for ILC. After optimizations, the system design is established with an enough technical margin, e.g. avoiding potential damage on the production target.
Abstract
In the electron driven ILC (International Linear Collider) positron source, the beam is generated and accelerated in a multi-bunch format with mini-trains. The macro-pulse contains 2 to 4 ...mini-trains with several gaps, because the pulse format is a copy of a part of the bunch storage pattern in DR (Damping Ring). This pulse format causes a variation of the accelerator field in the pulse due to the transient beam loading and an intensity fluctuation of captured positron. The beam loading is compensated by amplitude modulation on the input RF in the positron booster composed from L-band and S-band traveling wave RF cavity. In this article, we derive the exact solution for the compensation with the gaps. In addition, we evaluate the effect of the time constant (delay) of the input RF modulation due to klystron Q-value.
KEK-STF is a super conducting linear accelerator test facility for developing accelerator technologies for the ILC (International Linear Collider). We are supported in developing advanced accelerator ...technologies using STF by Japanese Ministry (MEXT) for Compact high brightness X-ray source development. Since we are required to demonstrate the generation of high brightness X-ray based on inverse Compton scattering using super conducting linear accelerator and laser storage cavity technologies by October of next year (2012), the design has been fixed and the installation of accelerator components is under way. The necessary technology developments and the planned experiment are explained.
The development of linac-based narrow-band THz sources with sub-picosecond, Formula: see text-level radiation pulses is in demand from the scientific community. Intrinsically monochromatic emitters ...such as coherent Smith-Purcell radiation sources appear as natural candidates. However, the lack of broad spectral tunability continues to stimulate active research in this field. We hereby present the first experimental investigation of coherent grating diffraction radiation (GDR), for which comparable radiation intensity with central frequency fine-tuning in a much wider spectral range has been confirmed. Additionally, the approach allows for bandwidth selection at the same central frequency. The experimental validation of performance included the basic spectral, spatial and polarization properties. The discussion of the comparison between GDR intensity and other coherent radiation sources is also presented. These results further strengthen the foundation for the design of a tabletop wide-range tunable quasi-monochromatic or multi-colour radiation source in the GHz-THz frequency range.

This paper demonstrates the detailed design concept, alignment, and initial testing of a Michelson interferometer for the THz spectral range. We present the first results on the measurement of a ...coherent transition radiation spectrum and describe the performance of a pair of ultra-fast broadband room temperature Schottky barrier diode detectors. We discuss the main criteria of interferometer beam splitter optimization, the alignment technique, the high-precision calibration and linearity check of the motion system.
A power enhancement optical cavity is a compelling means of realizing a pulsed laser with a high peak power and high repetition frequency, which is not feasible using a simple amplifier scheme. ...However, a precise feedback system is necessary for maintaining the narrow resonance condition of the optical cavity; this has become a major technical issue in developing such cavities. We have developed a new approach that does not require any active feedback system, by placing the cavity in the outer loop of a laser amplifier. We report on the first demonstration of a mode-locked pulse oscillation using the new system.
Abstract
In E-Driven positron source of ILC, the generated positron is captured by a standing wave cavity. Because the deceleration capture method is employed, the positron is off-crest over the ...linac. Because the beam-loading is expected to be more than 1A in a multi-bunch format, the compensation is essential to obtain uniform intensity over the pulse. A conventional method for the compensation controlling the timing doesn’t work because RF and Beam induced field are in different phase. In this manuscript, we discuss the compensation with the off-crest acceleration case. A simple phase modulation on the input RF is a solution.
The interest in producing ultrashort electron bunches has risen sharply among scientists working on the design of high-gradient wakefield accelerators. One attractive approach generating electron ...bunches is to illuminate a photocathode with a train of femtosecond laser pulses. In this paper we describe the design and testing of a laser system for an rf gun based on a commercial titanium-sapphire laser technology. The technology allows the production of four femtosecond laser pulses with a continuously variable pulse delay. We also use the designed system to demonstrate the experimental generation of an electron microbunch train obtained by illuminating a cesium-telluride semiconductor photocathode. We use conventional diagnostics to characterize the electron microbunches produced and confirm that it may be possible to control the main parameter of an electron microbunch train.
Smith–Purcell radiation (SPR) from a lamellar grating with vacuum gaps was calculated using Computer Simulation Technology (CST) Particle In Cell (PIC) solver. The shapes of the radiation ...distributions were compared with those of Resonant Diffraction Radiation theory. Study of calculation domain meshing was performed. Influence of a transverse bunch size on the calculation accuracy and an SPR intensity distribution was investigated. Dependencies of the SPR yield on Lorentz factor and grating strip depth were calculated and compared with previously reported theoretical and experimental studies.
