Eccrine porocarcinoma is a rarely seen malignant tumor of the sweat glands. It is commonly seen in elderly people and it tends to involve lower extremities. Surgical excision is the main therapeutic ...modality. It may show local recurrences and systemic metastasis. The effects of chemotherapy and radiotherapy are contradictory. Here, we present a case of 90-years-old female patient with eccrine porocarcinoma localized in the axillary area and additionally we review the existing literature.
Bevacizumab is a humanized monoclonal antibody that inhibits vascular endothelial growth factor, and it has been found to increase both progression-free survival and overall survival when it is ...combined with chemotherapeutic agents in the first-line and subsequent treatment of metastatic colorectal carcinoma. The objective of this study was to show the efficacy of maintenance treatment with capecitabine plus bevacizumab in patients with metastatic colorectal cancer who responded to treatment with FOLFIRI plus bevacizumab. The study included patients with metastatic colorectal cancer who received FOLFIRI plus bevacizumab as a first-line treatment. Patients who had objective response with FOLFIRI plus bevacizumab treatment after an average period of 6 months received a maintenance treatment with capecitabine plus bevacizumab (capecitabine 2 x 1000 mg/m(2), 1 - 14 days, every 21 days, bevacizumab 7.5 mg/m(2), every 21 days) until disease progression or toxicity. The time to progression on bevacizumab treatment was evaluated. A total of 29 patients (15 male, 14 female) were included. The mean age was 62 years. The mean number of cycles for maintenance treatment with capecitabine plus bevacizumab was 12. The median PFS was 16 ± 3 months, and OS was 42 ± 11 months. PFS and OS were remarkably higher in patients with a complete or near complete response to induction treatment. Fourteen patients (48%) experienced hand-foot syndrome associated with capecitabine plus bevacizumab treatment, without any severe toxicity. Inselected patients with metastatic colorectal carcinoma who had a remarkable objective response to FOLFIRI plus bevacizumab treatment, a maintenance treatment with capecitabine plus bevacizumab following FOLFIRI plus bevacizumab until disease progression may be a suitable, effective and tolerable regimen, which requires further studies.
The present study aimed to evaluate the effects of SOD (superoxide dismutase)-rich melon feed supplement on some performance parameters, serum biochemical and antioxidant indexes, and meat quality ...characteristics of weaned Tuj lambs. An independent measures design (between groups) was used to determine these effects of treatment. After one week of the adaptation period, twenty-four weaned lambs at the age of 60 ± 5.0 days with a body weight of 23.14 ± 0.5 kg were divided into two groups, i.e., the control group (CON) fed basal diet and experimental group (EXP) fed with basal diet + SOD-rich melon (n = 12 per group). The results revealed a decrement in the (p < 0.05) feed efficiency ratio (5.88 ± 0.40 vs. 6.59 ± 0.86 kg weight gain/kg feed) and higher carcass yield (61.76 ± 0.80 vs. 60.11 ± 1.07%) in the EXP group as compared to the CON group. Additionally, the EXP group showed a significant increase (p < 0.05) in serum glucose and high-density lipoprotein levels, while there was a reduction in cholesterol, triglyceride, and low-density lipoprotein levels when compared to the CON group. The serum malondialdehyde was lowered (5.53 ± 0.47 vs. 5.98 ± 0.79 mmol/L) significantly (p < 0.05), while glutathione concentration was higher (p < 0.05) in the EXP group (17.82 ± 1.51 mmol/L) when compared to the CON group (16.54 ± 1.59 mmol/L). The cooking loss was also significantly (p < 0.05) lower in the EXP group when compared to the CON group. In conclusion, the results indicate that SOD-rich melon supplement (30 g/ton of the concentrate feed) can considerably improve carcass yield, some serum biochemical parameters, and meat quality characteristics in Tuj lambs. Thus, the supplementation of lamb diets with a SOD-rich melon additive may be used as an effective nutritional approach to improve their performance and health.
Objective: In this study, it was aimed to determine the effect of probiotic supplementation on egg production and quality in laying quail diets under heat stress.
Materials and Methods: For this purpose, a total of 150 56-day-old Japanese quail (Coturnix coturnix Japonica) were used in the study. The quails were divided into five groups, with 30 in each group. Each group was divided into five subgroups with six quails. Heat stress (34 ° C) was applied to four groups in the study. While basal diet was given to the control group and one of the heat stressed groups, probiotic was added to the other three heat stressed groups, respectively; 0.1%, 0.2% and 0.4%. Egg production, body weight and feed consumption of quails were determined by weighing for two weeks. Eggs were collected every two weeks were evaluated for egg quality.
Results: It was determined that the probiotic mixture had a significant effect on egg production and egg quality compared to the heat stress group was created at the end of the stress application.
Conclusion: It has been determined that the addition of 0.1% probiotics to layer quail diets may have a protective effect against the of heat stress.
