The dry cryostat technology is based on pulse tube cryo-coolers and offers a good alternative to wet dilution cryostats. However, the main drawback is the production of vibrations induced by the ...pulse tube. These vibrations can be transmitted to the cryogenic detectors mounted in the cryostat and cause extra-noises dramatically affecting their performance. A solution to mitigate the impact of these vibrations is to mount the detectors on a suspended tower. For this purpose, vibrations in a dry cryostat were modeled and preliminary prototypes were investigated in the scope of R&D for the EDELWEISS-III experiment.
The EDELWEISS-II Collaboration has performed a direct search for WIMP dark matter with an array of ten 400 g heat-and-ionization cryogenic detectors equipped with interleaved electrodes for the ...rejection of near-surface events. Six months of continuous operation at the Laboratoire Souterrain de Modane have been achieved. The observation of one nuclear recoil candidate above 20 keV in an effective exposure of 144 kg d is interpreted in terms of limits on the cross-section of spin-independent interactions of WIMPs and nucleons. A cross-section of 1.0×10−7 pb is excluded at 90% CL for a WIMP mass of 80 GeV/c2. This result demonstrates for the first time the very high background rejection capabilities of these simple and robust detectors in an actual WIMP search experiment.

Processing high-definition images with single-photon sensitivity acquired above 500 frames per second (fps) will certainly find ground-breaking applications in scientific and industrial domains such ...as nano-photonics. However, current technologies for low light imaging suffer limitations above the standard 30fps to keep providing both excellent spatial resolution and signal-over-noise. This paper presents the state of the art on a promising way to answer this challenge, the electron bombarded CMOS (ebCMOS) detector. A large-scale ultra fast single-photon tracker camera prototype produced with an industrial partner is described. The full characterization of the back-thinned CMOS sensor is presented and a method for Point Spread Function measurements is elaborated. Then the study of the ebCMOS performance is presented for two different multi-alkali cathodes, S20 and S25. Point Spread Function measurements carried out on an optical test bench are analysed to extract the PSF of the tube by deconvolution. The resolution of the tube is studied as a function of temperature, high voltage and incident wavelength. Results are discussed for both multi-alkali cathodes as well as a Maxwellian modelization of the radial initial energy of the photo-electrons.

2, no nuclear recoils were ...observed in the fiducial volume of a heat-and-ionization cryogenic Ge detector operated in the low-background environment of the Laboratoire Souterrain de Modane in the Fréjus Tunnel, during an effective exposure of 7.4 kg
d. This result is combined with the previous EDELWEISS data to derive a limit on the cross-section for spin-independent interaction of WIMPs and nucleons as a function of WIMP mass, using standard nuclear physics and astrophysical assumptions. This limit excludes at more than 99.8% CL a WIMP candidate with a mass of 44 GeV/
c
2 and a cross-section of 5.4×10
−6 pb, as reported by the DAMA Collaboration. A first sample of supersymmetric models are also excluded at 90% CL.
SICANE is a neutron scattering multidetector facility for the determination of the quenching factor (ratio of the response to nuclear recoils and to electrons) of cryogenic detectors used in direct ...WIMP searches. Well-collimated monoenergetic neutron beams are obtained with inverse (p,n) reactions. The facility is described, and results obtained for the quenching factors of scintillation in NaI(Tl) and of heat and ionization in Ge are presented.
Muon-induced neutrons constitute a prominent background component in a number of low count rate experiments, namely direct searches for dark matter. In this work we describe a neutron detector to ...measure this background in an underground laboratory, the Laboratoire Souterrain de Modane. The system is based on 1
m
3 of Gd-loaded scintillator and it is linked with the muon veto of the EDELWEISS-II experiment for coincident muon detection. The system was installed in autumn 2008 and passed since then a number of commissioning tests proving its full functionality. The data-taking is continuously ongoing and a count rate of the order of 1 muon-induced neutron per day has been achieved.
We report the measurement of the two-neutrino double-beta ($2\nu\beta\beta$) decay of $^{100}$Mo to the ground state of $^{100}$Ru using lithium molybdate (\crystal) scintillating bolometers. The ...detectors were developed for the CUPID-Mo program and operated at the EDELWEISS-III low background facility in the Modane underground laboratory. From a total exposure of $42.235$ kg$\times$d, the half-life of $^{100}$Mo is determined to be $T_{1/2}^{2\nu}=7.12^{+0.18}_{-0.14}\,\mathrm{(stat.)}\pm0.10\,\mathrm{(syst.)}\times10^{18}$ years. This is the most accurate determination of the $2\nu\beta\beta$ half-life of $^{100}$Mo to date. We also confirm, with the statistical significance of $>3\sigma$, that the single-state dominance model of the $2\nu\beta\beta$ decay of $^{100}$Mo is favored over the high-state dominance model.

No nuclear recoils are observed in the fiducial volume in the 30–200 keV energy range during an effective exposure of 4.53 kg
day. Limits for the cross-section for the spin-independent interaction of WIMPs and nucleons are set in the framework of the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (MSSM). The central value of the signal reported by the experiment DAMA is excluded at 90% CL.
