This paper aims to give a new reference for the codex Ambrosianus B 36 inf. (manuscript A in the Liber Glossarum tradition); it is divided into three main parts. The first section provides a general ...description of the manuscript analyzing pagination, physical conditions, ommissions, etc.; the second section highlights specific features of the Milanese manuscript, especially as concerns the end-papers, signatures, ancient annotations; the third section offers a short historical information about the circulation of the manuscript before it entered the Ambrosiana collection.

The investigation of intertextuality within a corpus of Latin poetry is the main objective of the research functions of the so-called ‘Musisque Deoque Galaxy’: formular recurrences, and lexical and ...metric-verbal co-occurrences draw a dense network of relationships between texts, where poetic memory presents itself in various modalities. This contribution aims to analyse the latest developments in the “Musisque Deoque Galaxy” both from the point of view of the tools created to enable new textual acquisitions and new analyses, and from the technological point of view, with reference to the work carried out to ensure a long-term sustainability.
Abstract
Aim
Higher number of monocytes and neutrophils may correlate with active tuberculosis (TB) in children. However, the few paediatric studies available are limited by the small numbers of ...children with TB disease or infection included.
Methods
We calculated the monocyte‐to‐lymphocyte‐ratio (MLR), neutrophil‐to‐lymphocyte‐ratio (NLR) and neutrophil‐to‐monocyte‐plus‐lymphocyte‐ratio (NMLR) in children with active TB, latent TB infection (LTBI), other infectious and non‐infectious conditions and healthy children evaluated in two referral centres in Rome.
Results
Overall, 649 children were included (41.8% females, mean age of 5.74 years). MLR, NLR and NMLR values were always significantly higher in patients with TB compared with the other groups (
p
< 0.001). Considering the entire population with the outcome of TB diagnosis, NMLR, with a cut‐off of 1.2, had a sensitivity of 63% and a specificity of 76% (AUC: 0.71 0.64–0.78); NLR, with a cut‐off of 1.5, had a sensitivity of 61% and a specificity of 79% (AUC: 0.72 0.65–0.79); MLR, considering a cut‐off of 0.2, was less sensitive (56%) but more specific (82%) with a similar AUC (0.72 0.65–0.79).
Conclusion
Our study provides further evidence that MLR, NLR and NMLR can serve as first level diagnostics to support the clinical suspicion of TB in children.
Microglial cells are brain-specific macrophages that swiftly react to disruptive events in the brain. Microglial activation leads to specific modifications, including proliferation, morphological ...changes, migration to the site of insult, and changes in gene expression profiles. A change in inflammatory status has been linked to many neurodegenerative diseases such as Parkinson's disease and Alzheimer's disease. For this reason, the investigation and quantification of microglial cells is essential for better understanding their role in disease progression as well as for evaluating the cytocompatibility of novel therapeutic approaches for such conditions. In the following study we implemented a machine learning-based approach for the fast and automatized quantification of microglial cells; this tool was compared with manual quantification (ground truth), and with alternative free-ware such as the threshold-based ImageJ and the machine learning-based Ilastik. We first trained the algorithms on brain tissue obtained from rats and non-human primate immunohistochemically labelled for microglia. Subsequently we validated the accuracy of the trained algorithms in a preclinical rodent model of Parkinson's disease and demonstrated the robustness of the algorithms on tissue obtained from mice, as well as from images provided by three collaborating laboratories. Our results indicate that machine learning algorithms can detect and quantify microglial cells in all the three mammalian species in a precise manner, equipotent to the one observed following manual counting. Using this tool, we were able to detect and quantify small changes between the hemispheres, suggesting the power and reliability of the algorithm. Such a tool will be very useful for investigation of microglial response in disease development, as well as in the investigation of compatible novel therapeutics targeting the brain. As all network weights and labelled training data are made available, together with our step-by-step user guide, we anticipate that many laboratories will implement machine learning-based quantification of microglial cells in their research.
The Mediterranean region is frequently struck by severe rainfall events causing numerous casualties and several million euros of damages every year. Thus, improving the forecast accuracy is a ...fundamental goal to limit social and economic damages. Numerical Weather Prediction (NWP) models are currently able to produce forecasts at the km scale grid spacing but unreliable surface information and a poor knowledge of the initial state of the atmosphere may produce inaccurate simulations of weather phenomena. The STEAM (SaTellite Earth observation for Atmospheric Modelling) project aims to investigate whether Sentinel satellites constellation weather observation data, in combination with Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) observations, can be used to better understand and predict with a higher spatio-temporal resolution the atmospheric phenomena resulting in severe weather events. Two heavy rainfall events that occurred in Italy in the autumn of 2017 are studied—a localized and short-lived event and a long-lived one. By assimilating a wide range of Sentinel and GNSS observations in a state-of-the-art NWP model, it is found that the forecasts benefit the most when the model is provided with information on the wind field and/or the water vapor content.
