Numerous futures markets in the US and many stock markets around the world set a “limit” price before each trading session, based on the settlement price at the end of the previous trading day. Price ...limits are boundaries set by market regulators to restrict large daily fluctuations in the price of securities. Once the return limit is triggered, traders cannot observe the equilibrium return that would have prevailed in the absence of such regulation. We develop an innovative approach for forecasting security returns (and prices) in a market regulated by price limits. Our forecasting model allows for multiple limit-hits. The model is robust, straightforward and easy for practitioners to use. A few numerical predictions are provided for hypothetical securities, and for seven traded futures contracts.
A DNA structure is defined as paranemic if the participating strands can be separated without mutual rotation of the opposite strands. The experimental methods employed to detect paranemic, unwound, ...DNA regions is described, including probing by single-strand specific nucleases (SNN), conformation-specific chemical probes, topoisomer analysis, NMR, and other physical methods. The available evidence for the following paranemic structures is surveyed: single-stranded DNA, slippage structures, cruciforms, alternating B-Z regions, triplexes (H-DNA), paranemic duplexes and RNA, protein-stabilized paranemic DNA. The problem of DNA unwinding during gene copying processes is analyzed; the possibility that extended paranemic DNA regions are transiently formed during replication, transcription, and recombination is considered, and the evidence supporting the participation of paranemic DNA forms in genes committed to or undergoing copying processes is summarized.

The management of obstructive azoospermia resulting from intra-abdominal vasal obstruction poses a formidable surgical challenge. A number of surgical methods have been described to address this ...problem, including both open and laparoscopic approaches to mobilize and sometimes even re-route the abdominal vas deferens prior to performing a re-anastamosis. We present the first report, to our knowledge, of robotic intra-abdominal vasectomy reversal used to repair obstructive azoospermia resulting from prior laparoscopic vasectomy. In doing so, we summarize the techniques described previously in the literature and build upon this body of surgical experience by combining robotic-assisted laparoscopic mobilization of the vas with robotic vasovasostomy. We believe this novel approach for repairing intra-abdominal vasal defects minimizes morbidity, while at the same time obviating the need for the operating microscope, and thus represents a practical alternative to existing techniques.

Abstract Introduction Aggressive angiomyxoma (AAM) is a rare, benign mass with propensity for local invasion and recurrence after resection. Infrequently, this tumor can be found arising from the ...scrotum or cord structures in males. Aim/Methods A case report is presented followed by a review of relevant literature addressing the diagnosis, imaging, management and follow-up for aggressive angiomyxoma of the scrotum. Results Imaging can assist in further characterization of masses noted on physical exam. Scrotal sonography is typically the primary imaging modality utilized and magnetic resonance imaging is able to provide further anatomic detail. Treatment mainstay is surgical resection with necessary long term surveillance.

Youth care workers (YCW) who work within their ethno-cultural minority groups may face role conflicts since on the one hand they represent the establishment while on the other they may identify with their own ethno-cultural group. This study aimed to examine their role perception and burnout, and its relationship to their acculturation strategy. It further compared the relative contribution of acculturation as a predictor of role perception and burnout levels, with that of the worker’s coping patterns and working-environment perceptions. Self-report questionnaires were filled in by 247 YCWs (62 native-Israeli Jews, 64 Israeli Arabs, 60 Ethiopian immigrants, and 61 immigrants from the CIS). No significant differences in role perception and burnout levels were found between native Israeli YCW and their minority-member counterparts. No significant association was found between acculturation strategy, role perception and burnout. The relative contribution of personal coping patterns and working-environment perceptions to the prediction of role perception and burnout levels was of greater significance than that of acculturation strategy. Finally, acculturation was revealed as a two-dimensional construct, in which each dimension acts distinctly. The results demonstrate how acculturation strategies act differently in distinct ethno-cultural minority groups, and that acculturation does not necessarily take a major role in predicting dependent variables such as role perception and burnout.
Question: The importance of silvicultural site preparation techniques in determining vegetation succession is increasingly recognized. We studied the effects of mechanical site preparation (MSP) on ...post-fire vegetation regeneration within reforested sites in Mediterranean Israel. Location: Upper Galilee region, Israel. Methods: Vegetation cover and composition, ruderal species colonization and pine regeneration were monitored in four reforested sites for 3 yr following wildland fires that burned mature Pinus brutia and P. halepensis plantations. In each reforested site, a 50 m × 50 m monitoring area was assigned and measurements were conducted within five subplots (2 m × 50 m) encompassing three MSP patch types: ploughed patches (P), unploughed patches (UP) and planting mounds (M) that combined ploughing, pit digging and wood-chip mulching. Results: Recovery of vegetation cover (excluding pines) was rapid. The MSP patch type significantly affected vegetation cover in the first spring following the fire: cover was lowest on M, intermediate on P and highest on UP. However, these differences became minor by the third spring following the fire. Total woody species richness was not affected by MSP patch type, although there were minor effects on relative abundance of woody species. Two ruderal species were found, but their abundance became untraceable by the third year. Patterns of MSP effects on pine regeneration were similar for P. halepensis and P. brutia. Density of emerging seedlings of both pine species during the first year following the fire was significantly affected by MSP patch type: lower in P and M than in UP by more than 50% and 90%, respectively. However, emergence and/or survival during the following 2 yr was higher in P and M than in UP, with overall outcome of pine regeneration still about 50% lower in P and M than in UP. Conclusions: The MSP treatments had only a minor, short-term effect on post-fire regeneration and colonization of vegetation, except for pine recruitment, which was more severely affected.
