from coasts and beaches, transportation, cleaning, and storage are relatively high. Therefore, the production of biofuels from
Sargassum
seaweed is still a technical, economic, and energy challenge. This review proposes a multifactorial approach to the potential use of
Sargassum
biomass as feedstock for energy production, especially by thermochemical conversion (combustion, gasification, pyrolysis, and hydrothermal liquefaction). The survey analyses the chemical composition, biomass productivity and coastal impact, energy output, thermochemical conversion processes, techno-economic challenges, and future perspectives. In addition, a
Sargassum
biomass biorefinery approach with a circular bioeconomy approach is proposed.

Biodiesel is one of the most widely used alternative fuels to reduce exhaust emissions and the use of conventional fossil fuels. It can be synthesized from a transesterification reaction from ...vegetable oils or animal fats in the presence of homogeneous or heterogeneous catalysts. Some drawbacks of using homogeneous catalysts increased attention to heterogeneous catalysts for biodiesel production. Recently, heterogeneous catalysts derived from biomass have risen to the forefront of biodiesel production due to their sustainability, economical and eco‐friendly nature. In addition, they are easily recovered and constitute an alternative to eliminate biomass residues. This review highlights several biomass sources used as precursors for the production of heterogeneous catalyst. Furthermore, methods for preparing heterogeneous catalysts, the reaction mechanisms, catalyst advantages and drawbacks, their performance in biodiesel production, as well as the methodologies developed for their effective recovery are discussed in detail. Among lignocellulosic biomass‐based precursors, the paper takes into account those based on biochar, ash, carbonaceous substrate, and seed oil cake. Those catalysts obtained by both preparation methods (calcination and activation) have good catalytic activity for waste cooking oil or neat oils. Biomass ash or biochar‐based catalysts are also promising routes in biodiesel synthesis, but significant reductions in catalyst load, reaction time, temperature, and methanol‐to‐oil ratio must be reached.
Introducción: La producción de energía a escala local en base a sistemas agroindustriales establecidos, desde un enfoque de sostenibilidad es un aspecto de vital importancia en la actualidad. El ...presente trabajo muestra resultados obtenidos en el campo de la bioenergía mediante la conversión termoquímica de biomasas para su integración a sistemas energéticos locales. Métodos: La investigación comprendió el estudio de varias biomasas cubanas, con potencial para la producción de energía, que no han sido previamente bien estudiadas. Entre las técnicas empleadas se encuentran el empleo de análisis próximo, último, termogravimetría, análisis de contenido de cenizas, su composición y su comportamiento, simulación de procesos, estudio de disponibilidad y su potencial energético, entre otros. Resultados: Se optimizó la obtención de aceites y biodiesel, así como se estudió en motores la durabilidad y cuáles son las mezclas combustibles más adecuadas para generalizar en el sector agrícola en Cuba. Se obtuvo una detallada base de datos con la caracterización integral de biomasas, así como la formulación y evaluación de emulsiones a partir de aceite de Jatropha y glicerol residual, con reducción de impacto ambiental, costos e incremento de eficiencia. Se estudió la producción de biomasa a partir de Chlorella vulgaris y su conversión en biodiesel. En el caso de las macroalgas, se analizó la factibilidad de su uso para la producción de aceite o para conversión termoquímica. En el trabajo se incluyen resultados de análisis de ciclo de vida y de impacto ambiental para algunas de las tecnologías y biomasas incluidas.
La Moringa (M.) oleifera es altamente valorada a nivel mundial por las propiedades que posee. Una de las partes aprovechables del árbol es la semilla, ya que estas contienen entre un 30 y 45 % de ...aceite. El presente trabajo tiene como objetivo fundamental desarrollar la extracción de aceite a partir de las semillas de M. oleifera, variedad (var.) Supergenius de origen cubano mediante el empleo de hexano como disolvente. El porcentaje de extracción de aceite se estableció como variable respuesta en un diseño experimental del tipo factorial 22, donde la relación soluto-solvente y el tiempo de extracción fueron los factores estudiados a dos niveles. Ambos factores influyeron de manera significativa en la variable respuesta, (con valores) asociados de P < 0,05. El modelo matemático obtenido explicó el comportamiento de la variable respuesta en 91,45 %. A partir del comportamiento del porcentaje de extracción de aceite con el tiempo de extracción, se propone un reajuste en dicho tiempo, garantizando un ahorro de energía. Las propiedades físico químicas y el perfil de ácidos grasos del aceite extraído están en correspondencia con reportes hechos para otras variedades de M. oleifera. Solamente existieron diferencias en cuanto al índice de acidez. El comportamiento reológico demostró que el aceite de M. oleifera es Newtoniano.

The degradation of the waste was able to be increased by allowinga comparative analysis to determine the best working conditions for this stage and subsequently itsimpact in the generation of biogas, methane specifically.
