This paper improves the methodology of the first edition of the rapid living systematic review started in April 2020, with the aim to gather and present the current evidence informing rehabilitation ...of patients with COVID-19 and/or describing the consequences due to the disease and its treatment.
The Cochrane methodology for a rapid living systematic review was applied. Primary research papers, published from 1 January to 30 June 2020, reporting patients' data, with no limits of study design were included. Studies were categorized for study design, research question, COVID-19 phase, limitations of functioning (disability) of rehabilitation interest and type of rehabilitation service involved. Methodological quality assessment was based on the Cochrane Risk of Bias tools, and the level of evidence table (OCEBM 2011) for all the other studies.
Thirty-six, out of 3703 papers, were included. One paper was of level 2 (RCT), 7 were of level 3 (2 cohort studies, 2 cross-sectional studies and 3 case-control studies), and 28 papers of level 4 (descriptive studies); 61% of papers reported epidemiological data on clinical presentations, 5 investigated natural history/determining factors, 1 searched prevalence, 2 studies reported on intervention efficacy (though not on harms), and 5 studies looked at health service organization.
Main issues emerging from the review: it is advised to test for COVID-19 people with neurological disorders presenting with symptom changes; dysphagia is a frequent complication after oro-tracheal intubation in COVID-19 patients admitted to the ICU; after discharge, COVID-19 survivors may report persistent restrictive ventilatory deficits regardless of disease severity; there is only sparse and low quality evidence concerning the efficacy of any rehabilitation intervention to promote functional recovery; a substantial increase in resource (staff and equipment) is needed for rehabilitation.

Although a growing body of literature has been emphasizing the role of vitamin D in oral health, there is still a gap of knowledge regarding the correlation between temporomandibular disorders (TMDs) ...and vitamin D. Therefore, the aim of this systematic review was to assess the linkage between hypovitaminosis D and TMDs to map the current literature in this field. On 10 September 2022, PubMed, Scopus, and Web of Science databases were systematically searched from the date of their inception to identify the studies that had assessed patients with TMDs. The primary outcome assessed in this review was the relationship between hypovitaminosis D and TMDs. Out of the 329 studies identified, 13 studies met the eligibility criteria and were included in the present work. Seven studies assessed the relationship between vitamin D and TMDs, reporting that vitamin D serum levels are lower in patients with TMDs. Our results suggested that vitamin D receptor (VDR) polymorphisms might have a role in TMDs’ development. However, the quality assessed underlined that only one study did not present a serious risk of bias. Further good-quality studies are needed to clarify the linkage between vitamin D deficiency and TMDs, but the evidence currently available has suggested potential correlations.
Purpose
To examine psychometric properties of the Polish version of the 36-item WHO Disability Assessment Schedule 2.0 (WHODAS 2.0) in the population with hip and knee osteoarthritis (OA).
Methods
...This was a longitudinal study with repeated measures during retest examinations. Subjects from a Polish Specialist Hospital (age = 68.3 ± 9.2years, 71% female, 44.2% knee OA, 55.8% hip OA) were tested three times. They completed the Polish version of the 36-item WHODAS 2.0, the SF-36 Health Survey 2.0, the Western Ontario and Macmaster Universities Osteoarthritis Index 3.1, the Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale, and the Numerical Rating Scale.
Results
The 36-item WHODAS 2.0—Polish version demonstrated high internal consistency (Cronbach’s alpha for total = 0.94), and test–retest reliability (Total ICC

= 0.98). High construct validity was found as 12 out of 15 a priori hypotheses (80%) were confirmed. Most domains and Total Scores in the 36-item WHODAS 2.0 (Total ES = − 0.62, SMR = − 1.09) showed a moderate degree of responsiveness. Minimal clinically important difference (MCID) for the Total WHODAS 2.0 was 3.29 in patients undergoing rehabilitation for knee or hip OA.
Conclusions
The Polish version of the 36-item WHODAS 2.0 assesses disability according to ICF in a reliable, valid and responsive way. Therefore, it provides considerable support in clinical practice and national and international scientific research of patients with hip or knee OA.
The aim of this study was to evaluate the influence that COVID-19 lockdown had on the epidemiology of soccer musculoskeletal injuries during 2019/2020 Italian First Football League Serie A in ...professional football players.
In this retrospective study we analyzed records from media-based platform (Trasfermarkt, https://www.transfermarkt.com), describing the epidemiology of muscle injuries before and after the first COVID-19 lockdown phases in Italian professional football players. We also classified the severity of the injury as the number of missing days from participation.
We assessed a lower prevalence of post-lockdown injuries, albeit showing a similar injury rate at 1000 game-hours (prelockdown: 16.9 13.0-20.7, post-lockdown: 15.5 9.9-21.1; RR=0.92 0.46-1.8). All risk ratios for injury rate were not significantly different (P>0.05) between pre- and post-lockdown.
The incidence of muscle injuries has not significantly changed after the first COVID-19 lockdown in Italian professional soccer players. Recognizing injury rates might be crucial for physician to evaluate adequate preventive measures.
Background
Lower body lift is a widespread procedure for massive weight loss patients aimed to improve the contour of the lower trunk, gluteal region and proximal lower extremity. The data about ...complications are confusing, and there is a lack of uniform studies for massive weight loss patients. A simple formula to carry out a reliable procedure in a short time with a low complication rate should be advocated.
Methods
This retrospective study analyzed data of 323 patients undergoing lower body lift after bariatric surgery over a 10-year period. Selection criteria, careful preoperative marking, reliable intra- and postoperative care and a few surgical tips are discussed. All the complications (both major and minor) and the aesthetic satisfaction were evaluated. Risk factors assessed were patient age, tobacco consumption, current BMI, operative time and combined surgery.
Results
The overall complication rate was 42%. We recorded a lower rate of major complications and skin dehiscence; no infection and no skin necrosis were observed. The most frequent complication was seroma (35%). A complication development was straight related to age (
p
= 0.0177) and tobacco use (
p
= 0.0336). Patients’ satisfaction about overall aesthetic was high.
Conclusions
We present our case load and describe an easy recipe to perform a safe surgery without undermining and liposuction in short operative times. The reasonable overall complication rate and the surprisingly lower rate of dehiscence and skin necrosis combined with a pleasant aesthetic result make the lower body lift an easy and safe procedure, when applied to the appropriate patient population.

Breast cancer related lymphedema (BCRL) develops as a consequence of surgical treatment and/or radiation therapy in a significant number of breast cancer patients. The etiology of this condition is ...multifactorial and has not yet been completely elucidated. Risk factors include high body mass index, radical surgical procedures (i.e. mastectomy and axillary lymph node dissection), number of lymph nodes removed and number of metastatic lymph nodes, as well as nodal radiation, and chemotherapy. However, these predisposing factors explain only partially the BCRL occurrence, suggesting the possible involvement of individual determinants. Despite the implementation of conservative approaches, BCRL still remains in a proportion of cases an incurable and progressive condition with major physical and psychological implications. To date, diagnostic methods and staging systems lack uniformity, leading to a possible underestimation of the real incidence of this condition, decreasing early detection and thus the possibility of an effective treatment. Several preventive and therapeutic options are available, both conservative and surgical, but are not included in a standardized intervention protocol, tailored on patient's specific characteristics. In this review, we provide a comprehensive overview of the current state-of-knowledge of BCRL management, novel advantages in the assessment of pre-operative evaluation and risk prediction and discuss strengths and weaknesses of diagnostic and treatment strategies currently accessible in clinical practice.

Despite its widespread use in common clinical practice, the ...biochemical effects of O2O3 are still far from being understood, although its chemical properties seem to play a pivotal role in exerting its positive effects on different pathological conditions. Indeed, the effectiveness of O2O3 therapy might be partly due to the moderate oxidative stress produced by O3 interactions with biological components. O2O3 therapy is widely used as an adjuvant therapeutic option in several pathological conditions characterized by chronic inflammatory processes and immune over-activation, and most musculoskeletal disorders share these pathophysiological processes. The present comprehensive review depicts the state-of-the-art on the mechanisms of action, safety and effectiveness of O2O3 therapy in the complex scenario of the management of musculoskeletal disorders. Taken together, our findings suggest that O2O3 therapy seems to reduce pain and improve functioning in patients affected by low back pain and knee osteoarthritis, as reported by several studies in the literature. However, to date, further studies are warranted to clearly investigate the therapeutic effects of this promising therapy on other musculoskeletal disorders in the field of rehabilitation.
