Against the backdrop of the destruction of Iraqi heritage over the past quarter of a century, this article critically reviews key aspects of the current state of Iraq's cultural heritage, including ...damage to heritage buildings caused by Daesh in Iraq's second largest city, Mosul. We bring together Iraqi and non-Iraqi expertise in heritage, archaeology, and human rights law to frame our approach, building on the movement to link cultural diversity, heritage, and cultural rights. We emphasise the need for planning to enhance protection of Iraq's heritage, in particular through the preparation of inventories, the provision of resources for heritage education in schools and the development of Iraq's museum sector. Iraq's presence on the UNESCO World Heritage Lists needs to be enhanced, and the issues of illicit site looting and traffic in looted antiquities must be addressed within international contexts. Iraq's future accession as State Party to the 1999 Second Protocol to the 1954 Hague Convention is a priority in achieving these goals. The paper stresses the need for co-creation of heritage knowledge and a gender-sensitive human rights approach for the future of Iraq's globally significant cultural heritage.

Kazuo Ishiguro is one of the finest and most accomplished contemporary writers of his generation. The short story author, television writer and novelist, included twice in Granta's list of Best Young ...British Writers, has over the past twenty-five years produced a body of work which is just as critically-acclaimed as it is popular with the general public. Like the writings of Ian McEwan, Kazuo Ishiguro's work is concerned with creating discursive platforms for issues of class, ethics, ethnicity, nationhood, place, gender and the uses and problems surrounding artistic representation. As a Japanese immigrant who came to Great Britain in 1960, Ishiguro has used his unique position and fine intellectual abilities to contemplate what it means to be British in the contemporary era. This guide traces the main themes throughout Ishiguro's writing whilst it also pays attention to his short stories and writing for television. It includes a new interview with the author, a preface by Haruki Murakami and discussion of James Ivory's adaptation of The Remains of the Day.
This article seeks to examine the issue of mastery in Kazuo Ishiguro's Klara and the Sun (2021). While most of Ishiguro's earlier works engage with the fantasy of the "master race," his latest novel ...shifts the emphasis from human attempts to master other humans to human attempts to master nonhumans. These attempts are situated, in turn, in the context of debates around post/human "improvement" and "perfectibility." Such debates and the hopes they raise are ideologically suspect, linking android servitude to the subjugation of "lesser" humans, and creating technological others put at the service of human selves.
Isaacs attempts to describe and then explain a set of viewing encounters with a four-minute sequence in the film adaptation of Brokeback Mountain directed by Ang Lee. He states that he senses that, ...in spite of an attempt at a formal analysis, his reflection is in some part idiosyncratic and matched to a particular relationship to this film; but in that sense, we could say that all encounters with film images and sounds are, at least to some extent, individual and idiosyncratic. In addition to this description and analysis, he tried to illuminate ways in which the unique composition of form in image and sound spontaneously open affective fields and patterns in a constant process of "adding to" or "subtracting from," but always becoming something new, which then galvanizes a deeper, fuller compositional resonance.

Nous étudierons dans cet article la transformation de cet exil douloureux en une migration supportable, voulue. Nous verrons que cette double migration s'enrichira avec le mélange des cultures et des langues et que le pays de l'émigration n'est pas une terre de perdition. Nous traiterons principalement du theme de l'amour qui restitue l'habitabilité du monde, et qui transforme l'exil en une expérience de vie moins pénible.
