In this study, it has been aimed to decrease the faults in the process of a business in service sector and to increase its service quality by 6 Sigma quality philosophy. During the implementation of 6 Sigma DMAIC cycle, current condition of the business has been defined; in the measuring stage, service quality level of the business has been measured, In the analysis stage, the data obtained in the measurement has been construed and in the light of the analyses performed, the improvements that will allow the elimination of the faults in the business process have been determined. In the Control stage which is the last stage, the audits to be performed after the implementation of the improvements determined have been described.
This paper investigates the collaborative optimization of a plug-in hybrid electric bus (PHEB) under uncertainty. As a public transport vehicle, long-term stable fuel economy is important. However, ...many previous studies on PHEB started from deterministic frameworks and ignored the uncertainty in operation, leading to high driving cost. In view of the issues, this paper considers the uncertainties from operation in practice such as fluctuation in resistance coefficient, passenger load and errors in power source efficiency. A robust simultaneous optimization framework based on 6 Sigma theory is studied in order to obtain the optimal economy under long-term operation. The electric machine, transmission ratio and equivalent factors (EFs) in segmented equivalent consumption minimization strategy (ECMS) are optimized within the same framework. In order to address the issue of efficiency mismatch in motor optimization and energy management control, a motor approximate efficiency model was established using the Kriging model. The robust solution is then compared to the solution from the associated deterministic optimization. The results show that considering uncertainty in practice has a significant impact on the optimization design of PHEB, and the long-term operation cost can be effectively reduced after robust optimization.

Automobile side door glass squeaks and rattles during use. This abnormal noise can make the driver and occupants irritable and reduce the comfort of the automobile. This reduces the sales of this ...automobile. This paper analyzes and determines the cause of squeak and rattle during the lifting and lowering process of the side door glass of an automobile. The noise is due to four reasons. One is that the distance between the inner waterproof belt and the automobile side door glass of the automobile is unreasonable, causing excessive friction between the automobile side door glass and the inner waterproof belt during the automobile side door glass up and down movement. Other factors affecting squeak and rattle may be the distance between the automobile side door sheet metal and the automobile side door glass, the thickness of the automobile side door glass and the characteristics of the inner waterproof belt. The first two dimensions are analyzed using the 6 sigma method, and the structure of the inner waterproof belt is improved and the flocking position is adjusted. The squeak and rattle phenomenon is explained using the implicit dynamic analysis method ABAQUS, and the compression load deflection after the installation of the inner waterproof belt is 3–9 N/100 mm. This research completely solves the squeak and rattle problem caused by the up and down movement of the side door glass of the automobile. This research has significance for solving practical engineering problems.

The six sigma methodology have an important place for developing and reducing the actions which do not have inner process in supply chain in the firms. The aim of six sigma is defining, analyzing, ...correcting and improving the variables, which affect the quality of supply chain process in order to decrease the number of defects and the failures and to propose the improvement means for the processes. In this study general structure of six sigma is explained with regard to ‘how to define the complex problems which are encountered in the supply chain’ along with the relevant knowledge and comments for statistical methods that are utilized in measurement and analysis of supply chain.
An experience of collaboration between the university and companies related to training in the field of Operations Management is analysed. Called the “Specialist Programme in Operations Management ...and Lean 6 Sigma” of the University of Oviedo, its origin lies in the need, noted by some companies, for specialised education in the field of production planning and management and, in particular, Lean 6 Sigma methodologies. To this end, we detail the main objectives of the training programme, the collaboration of the participating companies, the professional activities involved, as well as the content and teaching methodologies used. This initiative shows the potential of closer ties between the university and companies and promotes debate about whether university education should respond to the training needs of organisations or not.

Each year our Clinical and Translational Science Award pilot projects program awards approximately $500,000 in translational pilot funding to advance health in South Texas. We identified needs to ...improve the timeliness, transparency, and efficiency of the review process by surveying applicants. Lean six sigma methodologies, following a "Define, Measure, Analyze, Improve, Control" approach, were used to streamline the pilot project application and review by identifying and removing bottlenecks from process flows. We evaluated the impact of our reorganized review process by surveying applicants and reviewers. Process mapping identified pilot project review as the main source of delay, leading to the implementation of a study section-style review mechanism. After one cycle, 90.3% of pilot applicants and 100% of reviewers were highly satisfied with the new processes and time to award notice was reduced by 2 months. All reviewers familiar with both review processes preferred the study section. We demonstrated how lean six sigma, a methodology not commonly applied in research administration, can be used to evaluate processes in translational science in academic health centers. Through our efforts, we were able to improve timeliness, transparency, and efficiency of the review process.
