Breast cancer (BC), as a highly prevalent malignant tumor worldwide, is still unclear in its pathogenesis and has poor therapeutic outcomes. Alternative polyadenylation (APA) is a ...post-transcriptional regulatory mechanism widely found in eukaryotes. Precursor mRNA (pre-mRNA) undergoes the APA process to generate multiple mRNA isoforms with different coding regions or 3′UTRs, thereby greatly increasing the diversity and complexity of the eukaryotic transcriptome and proteome. Studies have shown that APA is involved in the progression of various diseases, including cancer, and plays a crucial role. Therefore, clarifying the biological mechanisms of APA and its regulators in breast cancer will help to comprehensively understand the pathogenesis of breast cancer and provide new ideas for its prevention and treatment.
The Kalman filter is a very interesting signal processing tool, which is widely used in many practical applications. In this paper, we study the Kalman filter in the context of echo cancellation. The ...contribution of this work is threefold. First, we derive a different form of the Kalman filter by considering, at each iteration, a block of time samples instead of one time sample as it is the case in the conventional approach. Second, we show how this general Kalman filter (GKF) is connected with some of the most popular adaptive filters for echo cancellation, i.e., the normalized least-mean-square (NLMS) algorithm, the affine projection algorithm (APA) and its proportionate version (PAPA). Third, a simplified Kalman filter is developed in order to reduce the computational load of the GKF; this algorithm behaves like a variable step-size adaptive filter. Simulation results indicate the good performance of the proposed algorithms, which can be attractive choices for echo cancellation.
Many state highway agencies are adopting the balanced mix design (BMD) approach to create pavements that are more durable and sustainable, as it allows for performance testing during mix design. ...Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) has started implementing BMD using Cantabro, indirect tensile cracking test (IDT-CT), and asphalt pavement analyzer (APA) rut test to assess durability, cracking, and rutting performance, respectively. However, further efforts are required to validate whether the chosen tests and their thresholds ensure satisfactory long-term performance. This paper addresses three objectives: (i) comparing the performance of control mixtures designed based on volumetrics and their corresponding BMD mixtures, (ii) investigating the consistency between fundamental and empirical tests in characterizing mixtures, and (iii) assessing correlations between these tests to validate or refine VDOT thresholds. This study evaluated 15 VDOT asphalt mixtures, divided into six groups each containing one control mixture and one or two corresponding BMD mixtures. In addition to empirical tests, the dynamic modulus, cyclic fatigue (CF), and stress sweep rutting (SSR) tests were conducted, and correlations were established aiming to preliminary refine VDOT tests’ thresholds. The testing confirmed that almost all BMD mixtures met VDOT’s thresholds and the recommended criteria for CF fatigue index parameter ( S app ) and SSR Rutting Strain Index ( RSI). Statistical analysis concluded that most BMD mixtures maintained similar or better overall performance. A preliminary analysis across all the mixtures collectively showed a low correlation between S app and Cantabro mass loss, no correlation between S app and CT Index , and a moderate correlation between RSI and APA rut depth.
A novel hybrid affine projection algorithm (H-APA) is proposed. This algorithm is considered to be a derivation of the affine projection sign algorithm (APSA). The APSA can be greatly affected by ...impulsive noise. To solve this problem, the proposed algorithm is applied with the robust mixed-norm algorithm (RMNA). The simulated results show that the proposed algorithm is insensitive to impulsive noise with fast convergence rate under the colored input condition. In addition, a simplified H-APA (SH-APA) is derived based on the proposed H-APA to reduce the complexity of the algorithm. Numerical simulations show that compared with the existing AP-type algorithms, the proposed algorithms have faster convergence speed.
Objective
The present study explored the relationship between specific types of postconcussion symptoms and cognitive outcomes in student–athletes with chronic concussion symptoms.
Method
Forty ...student–athletes with chronic concussion symptoms were given a battery of neuropsychological tests and rated themselves on a variety of postconcussion symptoms, which included the following factors derived from prior work: Physical, Sleep, Cognitive, Affective, and Headache. Cognitive outcomes included performance on composites for the memory and attention/executive functioning speed tests, respectively. The following covariates were also explored: Sex, depression symptoms, number of previous concussions, and time since injury.
Results
Headache was the only individual symptom factor that significantly (p < .05) predicted worse attention/executive functioning performance. None of the symptom factors were significantly related to memory performance over and above the variable of time since injury, such that longer time since injury was related to worse memory performance.
Conclusion
Comparable to work examining symptom predictors of cognitive outcomes in acutely concussed samples, headache predicted worse attention/executive functioning performance. Additionally, we found that the longer athletes had been symptomatic since injury, the “worse” their memory functioning. Understanding how headache and the length of time an individual is symptomatic are related to cognitive outcomes can help inform treatment and recommendations for athletes with prolonged symptom recovery.

Editors of academic journals make general statements about criteria for accepting submissions, but more specific advice is often needed. What are the standards for history manuscripts in Journalism & ...Mass Communication Quarterly, especially now that its documentation style is being changed to American Psychological Association (APA)? The journal's history articles are useful examples of how to set substantial purposes and present perceptive interpretations. As they contribute to knowledge, such studies can stimulate thought about human experience and possibilities. (Author abstract)
Given the current COVID-19 pandemic, utilizing technology in online platforms has been a primary method internationally for upholding the health care system during this world health crisis. Online ...tele-mental health (OTH) offers exciting new breaks for mental health practitioners. However, initiation of OTH has also come with a host of trials, particularly on ethical standards. The goal of this narrative review aims to highlight the raised ethical issues among studies applying the modality of OTH which is a timely resource for mental health professionals who have been forced to move into the practice of online consultations and sessions. Using the standard key points of the mental health practitioners’ codes of ethics, applying both the American Psychological Association (APA) and the code of ethics provided by the Psychological Association of the Philippines (PAP) is used during the review. Results show that there are problems and uncertainties for mental health providers striving to fulfill the shift in technology. In this study, the five of the most critical ethical issues found in OTH encounters include issues of competency, issues in the interruptions of psychological services in using technology, issues in integrity, issues in privacy and confidentiality, and themes that are considered accessory issues in OTH. The recommendations provided adheres to lift ethical issues raised in the review.

This paper proposes an online identification method that can accurately estimate the stator resistance and dq-axis stator inductances for the effective model-based sensorless control of interior ...permanent magnet synchronous motors (IPMSMs). The proposed affine projection algorithms are uniquely designed in the estimated rotating γ-δ frame to precisely identify the parameters mentioned above. The two time-scale approaches are employed in the affine projection algorithms to estimate the three electrical parameters. Despite the electrical parameter variations due to the temperature change and magnetic saturation during operation, the rich enough data are provided to the affine projection algorithms in the discrete-time domain to accurately retrieve the updated parameters. These correctly estimated parameters are adapted to the extended back electromotive force observer for the sensorless control of IPMSM drives. Hence, the adaptation of online updated parameters makes the observer stable and robust to parameter variations as compared to the conventional observer without updated parameters. The MATLAB/Simulink-based simulation results and experimental results via a prototype IPMSM test-bed having TMS320F28335 DSP are given to verify the accurate convergence of the estimated parameters, which results into a stable sensorless control system under various operating conditions.
