Aloe vera‐derived graphene (ADG) coupled system photocatalyst, mimicking natural photosynthesis, is one of the most promising ways for converting solar energy into ammonia (NH3) and nicotinamide ...adenine dinucleotide (NADH) that have been widely used to make the numerous chemicals such as fertilizer and fuel. In this study, we report the synthesis of the aloe vera‐derived graphene‐coupled phenosafranin (ADGCP) acting as a highly efficient photocatalyst for the generation of NH3 and regeneration of NADH from nitrogen (N2) and oxidized form of nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide (NAD+). The results show a benchmark instance for mimicking natural photosynthesis activity as well as the practical applications for the solar‐driven selective formation of NH3 and the regeneration of NADH by using the newly designed photocatalyst.

Abstract
This study was conducted in the Department of Food Sciences - College of Agriculture - University of Tikrit to estimate the chemical and physical properties of yogurt prepared by adding aloe ...vera extract. The yogurt was made in a laboratory by following the standard method, where the manufactured yogurt was fortified with different concentrations of aloe vera extract (5, 4, 3, 2, 1%). Chemical tests were carried out, which included (estimation of protein, moisture, fat, ash and total solids), as well as physical tests, which included (estimation of viscosity, pH, turbidity, whey translucency, water binding strength and acidity). The results showed an increase in total solids through an increase in the percentage of protein, moisture, ash, turbidity, water binding strength and viscosity, while the percentage of whey permeation and pH decreased. These results are consistent with the results of the samples obtained after storage, as the study helped to improve the physicochemical properties by increasing the concentrations of the main chemical compounds of the laboratory-made yogurt.
This work aims to prepare multifunctional edible coating based on alginate and Aloe vera (AV) optimized to minimum water vapor permeability (WVP) using Box-Behnken design. Titanium oxide ...nanoparticles (nTiO2) were incorporated into the optimized film at different contents. FTIR confirmed the structures, while XRD confirmed nTiO2 incorporation with a size ranging from 20.38 to 28.81 nm. The UV-shielding was enhanced either in the presence of AV or nTiO2. Thermal stability by TGA was improved upon increasing the nTiO2 content. WVP was significantly decreased from 21.53 g mm/m2 day kPa for calcium alginate to 7.18 g mm/m2 day kPa in the presence of AV and nTiO2 (5 wt%). Color measurements showed non-significant changes in the film's transparency after AV and nTiO2 incorporation. Mechanical and antimicrobial properties were improved in the presence of nTiO2. Shelf-life studies on tomatoes showed significant resistance to mass loss and spoilage when coated with (alginate/AV) film containing 5 wt% of nTiO2.
•Alginate and Aloe vera were optimized using Box-Behnken design to a minimum WVP.•nTiO2 was added to the optimized system at 1, 3 and 5% contents.•nTiO2 improved WVP, thermal, mechanical, UV-shielding and antimicrobial properties.•nTiO2 did not affect the film's transparency.•nTiO2 nanocomposite extended the shelf-life of tomatoes.
Summary
Strawberries are among the most consumed fruits in the world, however, they are highly susceptible to both microbial and fungal contamination during storage. In this study, we used composite ...films made from banana starch‐chitosan and Aloe vera gel (AV gel) at different AV gel concentrations. Our results show that AV gel inclusion can significantly reduce fungal decay, increasing strawberries shelf life up to 15 day of storage at the highest AV gel concentration (20%), while maintaining their physicochemical properties, such as colour and firmness. Weight loss was reduced 5% with respect of the uncoated fruit. Our results can be attributed to the limited water vapour transfer allowed by the edible coating, this is the result of the crosslinking effect of the different AV gel and starch molecules that allows a more controlled decay of the strawberries in commercial storage conditions.
Increasing shelf life of strawberries by using a banana starch‐chitosan and Aloe Vera edible coating.
Aloe vera (蘆薈lú huì) is well known for its considerable medicinal properties. This plant is one of the richest natural sources of health for human beings coming. The chemistry of the plant has ...revealed the presence of more than 200 different biologically active substances. Many biological properties associated with Aloe species are contributed by inner gel of the leaves. Most research has been centralized on the biological activities of the various species of Aloe, which include antibacterial and antimicrobial activities of the nonvolatile constituents of the leaf gel. Aloe species are widely distributed in the African and the eastern European continents, and are spread almost throughout the world. The genus Aloe has more than 400 species but few, such as A. vera, Aloe ferox, and Aloe arborescens, are globally used for trade. A. vera has various medicinal properties such as antitumor, antiarthritic, antirheumatoid, anticancer, and antidiabetic properties. In addition, A. vera has also been promoted for constipation, gastrointestinal disorders, and for immune system deficiencies. However, not much convincing information is available on properties of the gel. The present review focuses on the detailed composition of Aloe gel, its various phytocomponents having various biological properties that help to improve health and prevent disease conditions.
Aloe vera is used both traditionally and packaged commercially in many regions of the world for several medicinal and or cosmetic purposes. It is claimed to have rejuvenating, moisturizing, healing ...or soothing properties on the skin and gastrointestinal tract. This study focused on assessment of the safety of A. vera on blood parameters: packed cell volume (PCV), red blood cell count (RBC), haemoglobin concentration, mean corpuscular volume, mean corpuscular haemoglobin, mean corpuscular haemoglobin concentration, white blood cell count (WBC), its differentials neutrophils, lymphocytes and platelet counts. Thirty Wistar rats were equally and randomly divided into 3 groups and A. vera extract solution was administered to 2 groups for 12 or 24 h respectively, for 7 days consecutively. The third group served as control for the experiment. Blood samples were collected on day 8 to determine changes in the haemogram as a basis for toxicity. Rats administered with A. vera extract, particularly for 24 h showed increased levels of PCV (47.42 plus or minus 4.32%), RBC (9.26 plus or minus 0.60 X106/ mu L), WBC (12.61 plus or minus 0.45 X103/ mu L) and its differentials. Platelet count was also significantly increased (150.25 plus or minus 4.77 X109/L). The results from this study showed that A. vera stimulated increased production of all blood cell types. In conclusion, protracted consumption of the extract of A. vera cause stimulation of haematopoiesis which may induce or encourage the progression of haemoproliferative disorders.
Direct-ink-writing (DIW) of hydrogels has become an attractive research area due to its capability to fabricate intricate, complex, and highly customizable structures at ambient conditions for ...various applications, including biomedical purposes. In the current study, cellulose nanofibrils reinforced aloe vera bio-hydrogels were utilized to develop 3D geometries through the DIW technique. The hydrogels revealed excellent viscoelastic properties enabled extruding thin filaments through a nozzle with a diameter of 630 μm. Accordingly, the lattice structures were printed precisely with a suitable resolution. The 3D-printed structures demonstrated significant wet stability due to the high aspect ratio of the nano- and microfibrils cellulose, reinforced the hydrogels, and protected the shape from extensive shrinkage upon drying. Furthermore, all printed samples had a porosity higher than 80% and a high-water uptake capacity of up to 46 g/g. Altogether, these fully bio-based, porous, and wet stable 3D structures might have an opportunity in biomedical fields.

Aloe vera contains flavonoid compounds with high antioxidant activity in powder form, which is usually affected by the encapsulating agent. Maltodextrin is currently used as an encapsulating agent ...because of its high solubility, while gum arabic is a viscous substance that increases oxidation resistance. Therefore, this study aimed to produce aloe vera instant powder with a mixture of maltodextrin and gum arabic as an encapsulating agent and evaluate the chemical changes during the preparation of powder with high antioxidant activity. The powder was processed by mixing aloe vera gel with an encapsulating agent of maltodextrin and gum arabic mixture in a ratio of 1/1 with variations of 5%, 10% and 15%. Each sample was dried using a drum dryer at 120°C, 130°C and 140°C. During preparation, the samples were analyzed for their moisture content, phenolic content, flavonoid content and antioxidant activity expressed as DPPH radical scavenging activity. The results showed that the addition of encapsulating agents decreased the moisture content, phenolic content, and flavonoid content of aloe vera gel, however no significant effect (p>0.05) on antioxidant activity. Drying at a higher temperature will produce aloe vera powder with higher antioxidant activity. The aloe vera instant powder which was produced with a 5% encapsulating agent at the drying temperature of 130°C had high antioxidant activity of 26.21±7.58%.
