In enterprise organizations, the Bring-Your-Own-Device (BYOD) requirement has become prevalent as employees use their own mobile devices to process the workflow-oriented tasks. Consequently, it calls ...for approaches that can quickly develop and integrate mobile user interactions into existing business processes, and adapt to various contexts. However, designing, developing, and deploying adaptive and mobile-oriented user interfaces for existing process engines are non-trivial, and require significant systematic efforts. To address this issue, we present a novel middleware-based approach, called MUIT, to developing and deploying the Mobility, User Interactions and Tasks into WS-BPEL engines. MUIT provides a Domain-Specific Language (DSL) that provides some intuitive facilities to support the declarative development of adaptive, mobile-oriented, and Web-based user interfaces in WS-BPEL. The DSL can significantly reduce developers' manual efforts of developing user interactions by preventing arbitrarily mixed code, and its runtime supports satisfactory user experiences. Additionally, MUIT can be seamlessly integrated into WS-BPEL without intrusions of existing process instances. We implement a proof-of-concept prototype by integrating MUIT into the commodity WS-BPEL-based Apusic Platform, and evaluate the performance and usability of MUIT platform.
Web Service Business Process Execution Language (BPEL) has become the de facto standard for developing instant service-oriented workflow applications in open environment. The correctness and ...reliability of BPEL processes have gained increasing concerns. However, the unique features (e.g., dead path elimination (DPE) semantics, parallelism, etc.) of BPEL language have raised enormous problems to it, especially in path feasibility analysis of BPEL processes. Path feasibility analysis of BPEL processes is the basis of BPEL testing, for it relates to the test case generation. Since BPEL processes support both parallelism and DPE semantics, existing techniques can't be directly applied to its path feasibility analysis. To address this problem, we present a novel technique to analyze the path feasibility for BPEL processes. First, to tackle unique features mentioned above, we transform a BPEL process into an intermediary model — BPEL control flow graph, which is proposed to abstract the execution flow of BPEL processes. Second, based on this abstraction, we symbolically encode every path of BPEL processes as some Satisfiability formulas. Finally, we solve these formulas with the help of Satisfiability Modulo Theory (SMT) solvers and the feasible paths of BPEL processes are obtained. We illustrate the applicability and feasibility of our technique through a case study.
La revolución del internet de las cosas - IoT, genera nuevos retos para el campo de la robótica; Para la construcción de las aplicaciones y comunicación de los sistemas robóticos, con la nube, fueron ...creados protocolos y conceptos, que facilitan y estandarizan la interconexión, algunos de estos conceptos son: servicios web, programación XML, sistema WS-BPEL, Arquitectura Orientada Servicio, Big data y computación en la nube. Este artículo, muestra una aplicación específica de la integración del concepto de IoT con la robótica, representado por un sistema de reparación y mantenimiento de vías autónomo, con un sistema robótico en la nube, el cual utiliza servicios web y protocolos de comunicación como XML y BPEL para la interconexión entre la información necesaria para la reparación y mantenimiento de las vías, usados en la toma de decisiones y tareas asignadas entre los robots. De esta manera, se demuestra, cómo es posible articular todos los conceptos, para lograr soluciones en un escenario real de reparación de vías.

Calculating business process metrics and correlating them to quality attributes is an important part of empirical research in the area of business process modeling.
BPEL is a standardized modeling ...language for executable business processes for which many metrics have been proposed. However, no publication offers a reference implementation.
This leads to two main problems: (a) A barrier to use metrics and (b) reproducibility problems, when reimplementing the metrics for each empirical study.
Across several of our research projects we developed BPELStats, which implements many BPEL metrics and is readily available for all researchers and other interested parties to use.

Regression test selection, which is well known as an effective technology to ensure the quality of modified BPEL applications, is regarded as an optimal control issue. The BPEL applications under test serves as a controlled object and the regression test selection strategy functions as the corresponding controller. The performance index is to select fewest test cases to test modified BPEL applications. In addition, a promising controller (regression test selection approach) should be safe, which means that it can select all test cases in which faults might be exposed in modified versions under controlled regression testing from the original test suite. However, existing safe controllers may rerun some test cases without exposing fault. In addition, the unique features (e.g., dead path elimination semantics, communication mechanism, multi-assignment etc.) of BPEL applications also raise enormous problems in regression test selection. To address these issues, we present in this paper a safe optimal controller for BPEL applications. Firstly, to handle the unique features mentioned above, we transform BPEL applications and their modified versions into universal BPEL forms. Secondly, For our optimal controller, BPEL program dependence graphs corresponding to the two universal BPEL forms are established. Finally, guided by behavioral differences between the two versions, we construct an optimal controller and select test cases to be rerun. By contrast with the previous approaches, our approach can eliminate some unnecessary test cases to be selected. We conducted experiments with 8 BPEL applications to compare our approach with other typical approaches. Experimental results show that the test cases selected using our approach are fewer than other approaches.

We describe a middleware solution for automatic run-time process versioning in Business Process Execution Language (BPEL) and then analyse its impact in terms of scalability and performance. Business ...processes change in response to business needs, but the deployment of new versions to a BPEL engine must ensure that running instances are not disrupted and can conclude following their original workflows. Our solution is implemented as a standalone component that manages versioning transparently to the process editor, the orchestration engine, the web services used by the process, and the end-user. We have tested it for almost 1 year in the production environment of a telecommunications company, without significant overhead in terms of process invocation time.
WS-BPEL is a widely accepted standard for specification of business distributed and parallel processes. This standard is a mismatch of algebraic and Petri net paradigms. Following that, it is easy to ...specify WS-BPEL business process with unwanted features. That is why the verification of WS-BPEL business processes is very important. The intent of this paper is to show some possibilities for conversion of a WS-BPEL processes into more formal specifications that can be verified. CSP and Z-notation are used as formal models. Z-notation is useful for specification of abstract data types. Web services can be viewed as a kind of abstract data types.
