Black Soldier fly (Hermetia illucens) larval (BSFL) frass was examined for its nutrient nitrogen, phosphate and potassium (N:P.sub.2 0.sub.5 :K.sub.2 O), phytohormone and biogenic amine content, its ...plant growth promoting activity, and screened to test the hypothesis that bacteria characteristic of the genus Enterococcus (present in the biome of decaying catering waste and the larval gut) are excreted by BSFL in their frass. Frass plant growth promoting activity was measured by comparing the growth of winter wheat berry (Triticum aestivum) in frass treated soil to that of untreated (control) soil. The N:P.sub.2 0.sub.5 :K.sub.2 O percent dry matter average, biogenic amine and phytohormone content of frass was determined by standard soil analysis, HPLC and HPLC/GC-MS methodologies, respectively. All were at too low of concentrations to account for its plant growth promoting activity. Frass added to soil induced a 11% increase in aerial mass and shoot length in treated plants over controls. Numerous colonies of Enterococci growing out on BEA (bile-esculin-agar) plates were detected in frass collected directly from larvae confirming the hypothesis that viable Enteroccoci are passing from the larval gut into their frass. Since a number of rhizobacteria, including Enterococci, have previously been identified as part of the larval gut biome, the passage of Enterococci from the larval gut into frass in the face of only trace N:P.sub.2 0.sub.5 :K.sub.2 O percent dry matter averages, biogenic amine and phytohormone content is consistent with the hypothesis that Enterococci exhibiting rhizobacterial activity have a role in conferring to frass its plant growth promoting activity.

Modern day clinical diagnostic laboratory has been transformed by automation. Most of the routine/baseline investigations are now-a-days performed on largely automated platforms, be it clinical ...chemistry autoanalyzers, hematology cell counters, coagulation analyzers, immunoassays or to a certain extent rapid molecular diagnostics. Besides, with the advent of versatile instrumentations like Flowcytometers, qPCRs or HPLC it is high time the present day diagnostic laboratories are re-structured. But most importantly the evaluation of different reports emanating from a lab holistically leading to diagnosis should be the aim of any diagnostic service.
Specialist care units cater to targeted cohorts of patients, applying evidence-based practice to people with a specific condition (e.g., dementia) or meeting other specific criteria (e.g., children). ...This paper aimed to collate perceptions of local consumers and health providers around specialist care units, as a model of care that may be considered for a new local healthcare facility.
This was a qualitative study using two-hour workshops and interviews to collect data. Participants were consumers and health providers in the planned facility's catchment: 49 suburbs in metropolitan Australia. Consumers and health providers were recruited through advertisements and emails. An initial survey collected demographic details. Consumers and health providers participated in separate two-hour workshops in which a scenario around the specialist unit model was presented and discussion on benefits, barriers and enablers of the model was led by researchers. Detailed notes were taken for analysis.
Five consumer workshops (n = 22 participants) and five health provider workshops (n = 42) were conducted. Participants were representative of this culturally diverse region. Factors identified by participants as relevant to the specialist unit model of care included: accessibility; a perceived narrow scope of practice; coordination with other services; resources and infrastructure; and awareness and expectations of the units. Some factors identified as risks or barriers when absent were identified as strengths and enablers when present by both groups of participants.
Positive views of the model centred on the higher perceived quality of care received in the units. Negative views centred on a perceived narrow scope of care and lack of flexibility. Consumers hinted, and providers stated explicitly, that the model needed to be complemented by an integrated model of care model to enable continuity of care and easy transfer of patients into and out of the specialist unit.
Despite epidemiological transition, India has a continued burden of infectious diseases and nutritional deficiencies. NNACP (National Nutritional Anemia Control Program) was implemented for women in ...the reproductive age group on basis of 1998 WHO data (>40% prevalence of anemia; DALY 445 per 100,000). Yet, the 2007 WHO database also showed ~40% prevalence of anemia. This may be because NNACP only addresses iron deficiency anemia and does not cater to Vitamin B12 or folate deficiencies. In addition, there are several reports claiming a high prevalence of vitamin D deficiency in Indians. Population data on these deficiencies (vitamins B12, D and folate), however, are meagre. 3 years' retrospective data included 52,267 subjects. Data was subject to statistical analysis for assessment of age and sex-wise prevalence of deficiencies of iron, vitamin B12, folate, and 25-hydroxy-vitamin D
The general development of technology and universal access means that gastronomy furnishings can be found in every corner of the world. Therefore, it is important to develop these devices and the ...machines that constitute them. We are talking about refrigeration systems located inside gastronomy furnishings. The R404A refrigerant, popular in recent years, is being withdrawn from use due to its harmful impact on the environment. Modern synthetic refrigerants or natural refrigerants can be used as alternative substances. In modern solutions, it is expected that devices and all cooperating elements have the lowest possible harmful impact on the environment and the user while, at the same time, having the highest possible energy efficiency. First, tests were carried out with the R404A refrigerant. Then, the working medium was replaced without changing any element of the refrigeration system with the modern R455A refrigerant. The system was tested in terms of the operating parameters achieved and in terms of electricity consumption. It was found that there is an alternative R455A refrigerant operating in the refrigeration system of catering furnishings, which provides the system with an average of 34% better energy efficiency than the reference refrigerant R404A. It was also found that the time needed to achieve the set working conditions decreased. An alternative refrigerant allows a refrigeration system to be built based on components available on the market or one that can be used as a direct replacement for the old refrigerant.
This article presents an extensive literature review of technology based intervention methodologies for individuals facing autism spectrum disorder (ASD). Reviewed methodologies include: contemporary ...computer aided systems, computer vision assisted technologies and virtual reality (VR) or artificial intelligence (AI)-assisted interventions. The research over the past decade has provided enough demonstrations that individuals with ASD have a strong interest in technology based interventions, which are useful in both, clinical settings as well as at home and classrooms. Despite showing great promise, research in developing an advanced technology based intervention that is clinically quantitative for ASD is minimal. Moreover, the clinicians are generally not convinced about the potential of the technology based interventions due to non-empirical nature of published results. A major reason behind this lack of acceptability is that a vast majority of studies on distinct intervention methodologies do not follow any specific standard or research design. We conclude from our findings that there remains a gap between the research community of computer science, psychology and neuroscience to develop an AI assisted intervention technology for individuals suffering from ASD. Following the development of a standardized AI based intervention technology, a database needs to be developed, to devise effective AI algorithms.
Pharmacists must cater to seniors' needs and communicate better in delivering pharmaceutical care. However, pharmaceutical care for seniors is unique since they commonly depend on support from their ...social environment. Our study aimed to collect perceptions and experiences of Asian seniors regarding social support.
A qualitative systematic review of peer-reviewed articles between January 2012 and January 2022 was conducted using PubMed, Scopus, Academic Search Complete via EBSCOhost, ProQuest, and Google Scholar. Selected studies were extracted, and thematic synthesis was performed.
A total of 23 qualitative studies with diverse rigor were included in this review. Themes that emerged around perceptions and experiences of social support were (1) family orientation, (2) having faith in religion, (3) the importance of the elderly providing support, (4) taboos, (5) elderly self-reliance, (6) elderly fear of being a burden, and (7) differences on perceptions and experiences regarding social support. A discussion on how these results may contribute to pharmacy practice is provided.
This study reviews the available social support for seniors and highlights its importance for pharmacists.
