Our knowledge of the diplomatic relations between the later Roman Empire and the “ barbarian” populations of the Rhine and the Danube is rather inadequate. As far as it is possible, this paper aims ...to describe some aspects of the “ sounds of diplomacy” in diplomatic and political exchanges between Roman imperial government and barbarians in Late Antiquity (fourth-seventh century). Three main contexts will be investigated in this paper : meetings between barbarian ambassadors and emperors or imperial officers ; religious rituals and practices in diplomatic relations ; representation and perception of barbarian kingship in diplomatic contexts.

The Abanico del Quindío (AQ) fan, a volcaniclastic deposit from the Ruiz–Tolima volcanic complex (RTVC), Colombia, provides insight into recent deformation in the Central Andes. The use of geological ...observations, geophysical measurements, and estimates of fault-scarp ages constrain timing of recent tectonic activity. Gravity and magnetic analyses, along with geomorphologic cartography, allow the detection of lateral variations in basement distribution and at least three structural trends that cut the AQ: the Armenia fault (NNE), El Danubio fault (NNW), and Hojas Anchas fault (E–W). Recent deformation in the zone results from slip on the Armenia and El Danubio faults and suggests a maximum interval magnitude of 5.1

The contribution is focused upon detail production-ecological analysis of the total herb layer biomass (above-belowground) in the different age stages of the willow stands (soft-wood floodplain ...forest of the Salici-Populetum association) in the Danube river inundation. The basic results vary between 1.3 to 3.1 t per ha according to the age structure and herb layer cover. At all studied forest types, aboveground biomass is higher than belowground one (1.60–7.00 t per ha). The results are compared with those obtained from the Danube and Morava river alluvium.
The paper presents the results of multidisciplinary studies that were reached during the interviews in the local administrations in 24 cities and municipalities through which the river Danube flows ...on the territory of the Republic of Serbia. The Danube is an extraordinary resource that links the North and the Black Sea through the Rhine-Main-Danube Canal, and flows through 13 European countries. There are almost 3 million inhabitants on its banks in Serbia, and it is also the region with the largest economic activity in the territory of the Republic of Serbia. Local administrations took responsibility for their own development by making a series of strategic documents related to local economic development in which they analyzed the current situation and predicted development measures and incentives to improve the investment environment. In this paper we analyze the eco-chemical characteristics of water, arrangments of banks and riverbed, supporting infrastructure, business infrastructure, development measures and incentives, as well as cooperation with other local communities in the Danube region. The aim of this study was to determine awareness, knowledge and commitment of decision-making capabilities of local communities on the Danube as a development resource, especially in the context of the modern concept of sustainable development.
The aim of this work was to examine the impact of urban wastewaters on the water quality of the Danube River in Serbia. Samples of water and sediments for microbiological analysis and genotoxicity ...monitoring were collected from 6 sites during spring and/or autumn 2010. Sanitary analysis, i.e. enumeration of total and fecal coliforms and intestinal enterococci, indicated moderate to critical fecal contamination, while organic load assessment (oligotroph to heterotroph ratio, index of phosphatase activity) revealed the category of moderately polluted water. Mercury-resistant bacteria were detected in all water samples, with high numbers at locations positioned downstream of Belgrade. There was no correlation of the microbiological parameters of the sediment and water samples. Genotoxicity monitoring, performed by the comet assay on hemocytes of mussels Sinanodonta woodiana, indicated a significant increase of DNA damage in mussels collected from the studied sites compared with the control group.

The authors discuss the concept of organic farming in the Danube region. Despite the financial and economic crisis, the sector of organic production showed growth rates in previous years. Growth ...rates were lower compared to the years before the crisis, but the trend remained positive. In the countries of the Danube region, the level of development of organic farming is different and can be correlated with the degree of development of the country. Western European countries have proven to be leaders in organic production. The authors come to the conclusion that in Serbia, this form of production is well developed compared to countries that are at a similar level of development. For these reasons, the authors believe that Serbia has the ability and resources to develop a competitive sector of organic production, which will contribute to the further development of the country and rural areas.
