Background
The psychological interest in the group of blood donors, in the perspective of worldwide research, is a valuable source of knowledge about variables that may help to attract new blood ...donors or to maintain the regularity of donations. So far, Polish research in this group has only investigated the state of knowledge about blood donation and has not studied specific psychological predispositions.
The aim
The aim of the presented study was to examine the relationship between the dark triad, social support and life satisfaction in a group of polish voluntary blood donors.
Material and methods
In order to measure variables of interest, the SD3 scale, the Social Support Scale, and the SWLS were used. The study included a group of 111 voluntary blood donors from different cities in Poland.
Results
The conducted analyses showed positive and significant relationships between social support (informational, material, emotional, and valuational), narcissism, and life satisfaction. Furthermore, linear regression analysis showed that social support and the dark triad explain life satisfaction in the study group by 30%. Mediation analysis showed that emotional support enhances the relationship of narcissism and life satisfaction.
Conclusions
The associations of narcissism, social support and life satisfaction can be explained through Caroll Ryff's theory of psychological well-being, according to which both subclinical narcissism and received social support can be components of a positive assessment of a person's quality of life. The study may provide a baseline for further research in a group of voluntary blood donors - e.g. with an extension of narcissism to include its communal dimension.
In today's fast-changing international humanitarian landscape, non-traditional/new donors are prominent amongst the more diversified group of humanitarian donors operating in the same settings as ...Development Assistance Committee donors. Kuwait was the first 'new donor' in the Gulf region and was recently given the status of an 'International Humanitarian Centre' by the former UN Secretary-General for the role it played in responding to the humanitarian needs of Syria. Yet Kuwaiti humanitarianism remains under-analysed in academic research. This paper aims to provide a more comprehensive understanding of Kuwait's humanitarian landscape by identifying its humanitarian actors, governing principles, preferred modalities of aid disbursement and by examining Kuwait's humanitarian strengths, weaknesses and potential.
Abstract
Aims
Refractory out-of-hospital cardiac arrest (r-OHCA) in patients with pulmonary embolism (PE) is associated with poor outcomes. The role of extracorporeal cardiopulmonary resuscitation ...(ECPR) in this patient group is uncertain. This study aims to analyse clinical course, outcomes, and the effect of an invasive procedure, including ECPR, in a randomized population.
Methods and results
A post hoc analysis of a randomized controlled trial (Prague OHCA study) was conducted to evaluate the effect of ECPR vs. a standard approach in r-OHCA. A subgroup of patients with PE-related r-OHCA was identified, and procedural and outcome characteristics, including favourable neurological survival, organ donation, and complications, were compared to patients without PE. Pulmonary embolism was identified as a cause of r-OHCA in 24 of 256 (9.4%) enrolled patients. Patients with PE were more likely to be women 12/24 (50%) vs. 32/232 (13.8%); P < 0.001 and presented more frequently with an initial non-shockable rhythm 23/24 (95.8%) vs. 77/232 (33.2%); P < 0.001, as well as more severe acidosis at admission median pH (interquartile range); 6.83 (6.75–6.88) vs. 6.98 (6.82–7.14); P < 0.001. Their favourable 180-day neurological survival was significantly lower 2/24 (8.3%) vs. 66/232 (28.4%); P = 0.049, but the proportion of accepted organ donors was higher (16.7 vs. 4.7%, P = 0.04).
Conclusion
Refractory out-of-hospital cardiac arrest due to PE has a different presentation and inferior outcomes compared to other causes but may represent an important source of organ donations. The ECPR method did not improve patient outcomes.

Objective: The psychosocial assessments of live kidney and liver donor candidates constitutes an important issue whereas many studies has drawn attention to the donation's correlation with anxiety ...and depression as well as the unwanted psychosocial outcomes. There are studies that find psychiatric disorders that appear in the post-operative period after donation lower or higher compared to the normal population. Altruism is considered as a concept that ensures vital stress management and is defined as ‘the degree of obligation felt in situations where you are supposed to help others’. It is believed that altruistic behavior is a mature defense mechanism, which prevents the development of psychiatric disorders such as anxiety disorder and depression and protects the individual against those psychiatric disorders. Methods: Our study included 51 participants who were donors of kidney and liver at Ankara Hospital of Başkent University between the years 2016 and 2017, and who accepted to participate in the study. The participants were given the Beck Depression Inventory, Beck Anxiety Inventory, SF-36 Quality-of-Life Scale and a Sociodemographic Questionnaire. Results: When the donors who participated in the study were compared with the Turkish society standards, the patient group was found to obtain significantly higher scores than the society average in the quality-of-life subscales ‘physical function’, ‘difficulty in physical role’, ‘mental health’ and ‘pain’, therefore, they were found to have a higher quality-of-life. Among the donors who participated in our study, the rate of those with moderate to severe depression was found to be 3.9% and of those with moderate to severe anxiety was found to be ‘zero’. Discussion: Organ donation may be an altruistic behavior acting as a defensive mechanism that protects the individual against mental disorders such as depression and anxiety and increasing the quality-of-life. : We explored the quality distribution of ninhydrin‐developed prints on A4 bond paper in two groups of individuals, in Israel and in India. While the quality distributions of the developed marks in ...both countries had some dissimilarities, both groups showed the expected bell‐shape distribution, with the majority of the donors belonging to the central zone, defined as “average” or “good.” Attempt was made to correlate between a physiological feature, palmar moisture, and the fingerprint donorship. As a rule, high fingermark quality could be associated with sweating hands, but there were individuals with moist palms whose fingermarks had a low score and vice versa. This finding supports the logical but hitherto unproven assumption that besides the amount of palmar sweat, the other physiological factor governing the prints’ quality is the total amount of substrate, amino acids in this case, in the latent deposits, which depends on the substrate concentration in the sweat.
The method of "speech donorship" is based on genetically mediated factors of tempo-rhythmic concordance of speech in monozygotic twins (co-twins) and pairs of close relatives (father-son, ...mother-daughter, sibs). Recording of the natural audiovisual donor sample of the speech adapted for a structurally-linguistic condition of speech of the recipient was carried out on a digital movie camera. This sample is defined using the data of computer transformation obtained by the program specially developed by the authors. The program allows to compute time equivalents of three parameters: the time spent for realization of "word", "pause", "word + pauses". Work of the recipient with the screen donor sample assumes a support of the restoration of genetic and adaptive speech patterns. Then the recipient works with the own audiovisual sample. The dictionary of a family speech was used to build tests. The use of this method was described for 15 patients with aphasia of vascular and traumatic etiology.
