This article seeks to contribute to the debate, within the feminist sociological theory and gender studies, about the possibility of ‘undoing gender’ in different social fields, mainly family ...relations. It is based on the premise that as women's objective dependency in the social structure decreases, the unstable character of what Bourdieu called ‘submissive dispositions’ becomes visible, and that women act reflectively, both to adapt to the challenges posed by their participation in different social fields and to gain personal liberties. The results of qualitative research, based on discussion groups and narrative interviews in which 109 women in working‐class sectors in Mexico City participated, are presented. Conflicts around breadwinning, housework distribution and personal liberties demonstrate a displacement of gender norms, parallel to efforts to maintain certain assurances regarding the traditional family model within the context of economic precariousness.
The transition to a low-carbon economy can create new job opportunities but may cause job displacement in some sectors that heavily rely on fossil fuels. In order to gain a balanced appraisal in ...understanding the broader consequences of climate policies, this paper analyses the impact of the EU Fit for 55 with carbon border adjustment on EU employment at the regional level. Research findings prove that certain regions are disproportionately affected by job losses, indicating that the acceptability of these targeted policies should address these potential inequalities. The most exposed are regions with vast energy mining industries, however implementing CBAM reduces the exposure of regions with energy-intensive industries. Some regions in Greece, Spain and Italy are still very vulnerable post-CBAM implementation, suggesting high sensitivity of job losses and low capability of these regions to deal with energy transition. Accordingly, ensuring effective support for these vulnerable regions is critical to enhancing public acceptance and further cooperation for the EU climate commitment and a more well-managed transition to a low-carbon economy.
•Implementing CBAM does not directly affect employment in fossil-intensive regions.•But CBAM mitigates exposure of employment loss in energy intensive regions.•Our study reveals low adaptability in south and central regions amid energy shift.•Low adaptability heightens high vulnerability, fostering political resistance.•Recalibrating financial support: abating resistance, easing territorial inequality.
Purpose
The purpose of this paper is to examine the relationship between employees’ perceptions of organizational virtuousness and task crafting, and to test the mediating roles of organizational ...identification and work engagement in this relationship.
Design/methodology/approach
The authors collected questionnaires from 175 Korean flight attendants and conducted structural equation modeling analyses.
Findings
Employees’ perceptions of organizational virtuousness were positively associated with task crafting. While organizational identification was not solely responsible for mediating this relationship, it intervened in the relationship between organizational virtuousness perceptions and task crafting by affecting work engagement.
Research limitations/implications
While this study provides important insights into the roles of organizational virtuousness, organizational identification, and work engagement in promoting task crafting, the use of self-reported, cross-sectional data limits causal inferences between variables.
Practical implications
Based on the present findings, managers can better understand the antecedents and mediating processes affecting employees’ task crafting.
Originality/value
This study adds value to the positive organizational psychology literature by revealing crucial intermediary processes linking organizational virtuousness perceptions and task crafting, thus suggesting reciprocity and social identity-based motivation as potential underlying mechanisms of task crafting.
In the light of emerging challenges to traditional employment patterns, not least, global competition for ‘location free’ professional work, the Higher Education sector is facing increasing demands ...for graduates to transition more effectively from education to work. Accordingly, the paper draws on Bourdieu's account of practice and the process of ‘culturing’ to explore the application of those personal behaviours and dispositions that go beyond the observable knowledge and employability credentials that, typically, are conferred by a university degree. Of particular concern is the role of the shared service centre model in the elimination, automation and offshoring of those entry-level tasks that, traditionally, have provided routes into professional careers. Empirical findings suggest that the process of culturing could provide a game playing advantage in securing graduate employment through the projection of work-readiness. A call is made for management educators, employers, government and professional bodies to think more creatively in fostering student behaviours and dispositions in work-based learning alongside, rather than at the expense of, developing intellectual skills and subject knowledge.
•Global competition for entry-level professional work is increasing.•Graduates need to transition effectively and quickly into work.•Personal behaviours and dispositions go beyond normal degree credentials.•The process of culturing could provide a game playing advantage in work-readiness.•Educators need to foster student behaviours and dispositions in work-based learning.
•We consider a scheduling model with a variable maintenance on a single machine.•The job processing time is general linear deteriorating.•Minimizing makespan and total completion time are proved to ...be NP-hard respectively.•An FPTAS is given for the objective of minimizing makespan.
We investigate a single machine scheduling problem in which the processing time of a job is a linear function of its starting time and a variable maintenance on the machine must be performed prior to a given deadline. The goals are to minimize the makespan and the total completion time. We prove that both problems are NP-hard. Furthermore, we show that there exists a fully polynomial time approximation scheme for the makespan minimization problem. For the total completion time minimization problem we point out that there exists a fully polynomial time approximation scheme for a special case.

We document that entrepreneur on-platform engagement with potential investors during a crowdfunding campaign significantly and positively impacts campaign success, after controlling for a host of factors previously documented to explain campaign success.
Introduction: The role of rural women in the process of economic development has been a growing concern of economists, planners, and the governments. The potentials of rural women as economic actors ...are not yet fully analyzed and yet there has not been adequate attention to the way gender affects rural women’s participation in economic development. Many projects for productivity increase in agriculture and rural development could not be realized or the outcome might have been different, if women had been involved in the process. Projects for family planning, the spread of literacy and basic health care cannot be achieved without recognition of the importance of the role of women. In the rural areas many poor families depend upon the income of women, who contribute significant amount of cash income to the subsistence level of economy. Always, indoor jobs are one way to achieve sustainable development in rural communities and rural women have a main role in the household economyy. The aim of this descriptive-survey research was to find out discrimination level of rural women participation in the indoor Jobs creation based on socio-economic aspects. Existing structures of decision-making in most developing countries cannot adequately represent women’s issues; their work and potentials for development have been neglected. The situation calls for structural change. Women’s full involvement in the formulation of programs would affect their lives. Access to and control of development resources need to be supported by organizations of the rural women themselves. Participation through local level organizations are critical for an empowering process, and which can provide access to resources for self-sustained development. Materials and Methods: This research is a quantitative study, non-experimental type and, an applied research, in terms of nature, the extent of controlling variables, and objective. Survey design was applied to achieve research objectives. The research population were included rural women of Fash district, Kangavar County, Kermanshah province that had to take out a loan for indoor job (N= 168). In this study census method was used. Data collection instrument was a questionnaire. Five-point Likert-type response scale (from very low= 1 to very high= 5) was used to measure research variables. Questionnaires’ face validity was confirmed by a panel of experts. Pilot test was performed to evaluate its reliability that Cronbach's alpha was between 0.81-0.86. Analyzing data was done by SPSS23 and R tools. Results and Discussion: The analysis of rural women’s demographic characteristics showed that most rural women were between the ages of 20 and 35 years. 23% of women were bachelor or higher. Thus, 52 percent of literate women were literate or illiterate. 33 percent of women were active in home businesses and marketed their products. In contrast, 67 percent of women did not participate in indoor jobs. To investigate the research hypotheses, women's participation score was divided into two levels named participation and non-participation based on the mean of the sample. Ordinal logistic regression was used for data processing using R software. Finding indicated that among the variables of the social and economic aspects, social status and income levels were highly discriminating the participation of rural women in indoor Jobs. Conclusion: It can concluded that promoting women's participation in social, economic and planning activities in order to expand their participation, especially in the economic field, is a prerequisite for sustainable development. This is particularly needed in rural areas where women have long been traditionally involved in family economic affairs. Also, it can concluded that various factors influence the participation level of rural women in the indoor jobs creation. In other words, interaction among socio-economic components can determine participation level of rural women. According to the results of this study, it is suggested that if the conditions and demands of rural women are provided, family businesses in rural areas can be organized as cooperatives. In order to familiarize and encourage rural women to participate in indoor business, targeted training programs to improve rural women's businesses should be provided to familiarize them with markets. In addition, the support provided by officials by providing the facilities needed to set up home businesses such as loans and banking facilities can help develop the industry in rural areas. Finally, development of entrepreneurial and self-employment culture in rural society by empowering entrepreneurs can impact the social status of rural women and promote home businesses.
The advancements in education technology have encouraged businesses to offer a wide range of educational resources aimed at teaching labor market-related skills. However, the ever-changing abundance ...of information in both course and job platforms makes it difficult for job seekers to identify the right learning resources for a particular job opportunity. As a result, it is important to integrate and analyze information from both platforms to recommend suitable courses and jobs to them. Meanwhile, integrating information from these distinct platforms for analysis purposes poses a challenge due to the presentation of data in free text. Previous studies have mainly focused on downstream tasks in one area and few have integrated both of them. Additionally, linking skills from these platforms through methods such as crowdsourcing or annotation mechanisms may not be reliable due to potential biases or inconsistencies. This study proposes a novel approach to integrate data from course and job advertising platforms using graph representation learning and embedding algorithms. The proposed approach predicts the relationship between the two platforms and has been tested in the form of link prediction tasks using several graph learning methods with RMSE scores below 0.1 and AUC scores between 70-75%. These results imply that our approach can be further refined and has the potential to be used in building recommendation systems that help address the problem of information overload among students and job seekers.
•The abundance of courses and job advertisements makes it difficult for students and job seekers to find the right fit.•Finding suitability can be achieved by assessing the similarity of their relevant attributes.•The proposed method involves content extraction through graph-based techniques to improve the reliability of their matching.
Carbon capture utilization and storage is an important technology option to rapidly and profoundly decarbonize the power sector, but will not deploy without substantial incentives or regulation. ...Assessment of U.S. policy options reveals that current incentives only partially close the finance gap and are most sensitive to fuel type and ownership structure. Recent proposed legislation would in some designs attract private investment for many projects, leading to widespread deployment of CCUS in the power sector. Additional constraints and concerns (including technology options and presence of CO2 infrastructure) could play an important secondary role. This study discusses the specific US incentive policies that can provide investors and lenders with net cash flows that are adequate to attract private capital to CCUS power projects in the US.
