Kant's views about the nature and value of enlightenment have been discussed very much since 1784, and without ever losing any of their relevance and importance. I will discuss a topic that has not ...been discussed quite that extensively: Kant's conception of enlightenment as it relates to the idea of perfection (Vollkommenheit) in particular. Is the project of enlightenment also a project of perfection (and vice versa), and if yes, in what sense and to what degree? My aim is twofold here: not just to present a sketch of Kant's views but also to do so in the light of contemporary, systematic questions and ideas concerning the idea of perfection.
"Funk Como Le Gusta" é uma banda paulistana com um repertório que abrange música latina, samba-rock, black music e música eletrônica, e cujo nome sugere a capacidade de agradar às audições mais ...heterodoxas. Os autores tomam de empréstimo o nome da banda para revisitar o debate sobre a Ideia Legislativa 65.513, que pretendeu tipificar o funk e os "pancadões" como "crime de saúde pública a crianças, aos adolescentes e a família (sic)". Para isso, o artigo revisita o debate filosófico (em Immanuel Kant, Theodor Adorno e Martin Heidegger) sobre se haveria um critério objetivo com o qual se poderia julgar a qualidade das representações artísticas em geral, para em seguida discutir se ao direito seria legítimo criar normas sobre assuntos diretamente relacionados ao campo supostamente não-normativo do juízo de gosto. "Funk Como Le Gusta" is a São Paulo band with a repertoire that covers Latin music, samba-rock, black music and electronic music, and whose name suggests the ability to please the most unorthodox auditions. The authors borrow the name of the band to revisit the debate on Legislative Idea 65,513, which intended to classify funk and "pancadões" as a "public health crime for children, adolescents and the family (sic)". To this goal, the article revisits the philosophical debate (in Immanuel Kant, Theodor Adorno and Martin Heidegger) about whether there would be an objective criterion with which to judge the quality of artistic representations in general, and then discuss whether the law would be legitimate to create norms on matters directly related to the supposedly non-normative field of judgment of taste. Este trabajo analiza la generización de la diferencia entre lo bello y lo sublime en las Observaciones sobre el sentimiento de lo bello y lo sublime de Kant. Esta diferencia es planteada bajo el ...supuesto de la diferencia sexual, implicando una jerarquización que ubica al hombre en el polo sublime-racional por encima de la mujer, del lado bello-sensible, replicando una vieja tradición metafísico-androcéntrica. Se aborda el devenir de la distinción, pero en el contexto de la teoría del juicio estético planteada en la Crítica de la facultad de juzgar. Esta obra, que replica la diferencia bello/sublime, ofrece sin embargo una teoría del gusto que sitúa al juicio estético de lo bello más allá de las jerarquías masculinistas. Concluimos así que en la estética kantiana conviven la misoginia explícita con una teoría del gusto que interrumpe las dicotomías metafísicas en que ella se funda.
Resumen: La guerra en Ucrania ha añadido un elemento cualitativamente desestabilizador al escenario bélico global del mapa de la geopolítica mundial, y una amenaza creíble de guerra mundial que ...podría desencadenar una crisis nuclear de consecuencias inimaginables para la humanidad y sin posibilidad de marcha atrás. Frente a la retórica belicista que se ha adueñado del discurso político de muchos de los dirigentes de los Estados concernidos por este grave conflicto surgido en el continente europeo, este artículo propone la recuperación de los principios ético-jurídicos que inspiran el proyecto pacifista kantiano, y una apelación a los fundamentos del cosmopolitismo jurídico y del republicanismo clásico con vistas a establecer una futura constitución mundial en la que se hagan realidad los derechos y libertades de todos los seres humanos y se materialice el imperativo ético de desterrar definitivamente la guerra y la violencia como principales males que comprometen la estabilidad de las relaciones internacionales, las condiciones para el desarrollo de la personalidad en un entorno pacífico y nuestra propia supervivencia en el planeta.

In his lectures on Logic and Metaphysics, Kant distinguishes between logical and real essences. While the former is related to concepts and is knowable, the latter is related to things and is ...unknowable. In this paper, I argue that the unknowability is explained by the modal characteristic of real essences as a necessitating ground on which a priori knowledge is impossible. I also show how this claim is related to the unknowable necessity of particular laws of nature. Since laws of nature are conceived as grounded in real essences, the unknowability of the latter is equivalent to Kant's other claim that there can be no knowledge of the necessity of particular laws of nature. Necessity can only be known a priori, and therefore, the necessity of particular laws is only assumed and conceived as grounded in something unknowable, a real essence. This conclusion will allow me to attribute to Kant a position I label as “regulative essentialism”, meaning that real essences have an indispensable role in accordance with the rational interest to explain nature as a system of laws and natural kinds, combined with an epistemic humility about the correspondence of our empirical concepts to real essences.
There are passages in Kant’s writings according to which empirical intuitions have to be (a) singular, (b) object-dependent, and (c) immediate. It has also been argued that empirical intuitions (d) ...are not truth-apt, and (e) need to provide the subject with a proof of the possibility of the cognized object. Having relied on one or another of the a-e constraints, the naïve realist readers of Kant have argued that it is not possible for empirical intuitions to be representations. Instead they have argued for a relationalist reading of empirical intuitions in terms of an acquaintance relation between the subject and the intuited object. For the sake of argument, I will grant the naïve realist reader of Kant that empirical intuitions should satisfy all the (a)–(e) constraints. Nevertheless, by incorporating these constraints, one by one, into a representationalist theory of empirical intuitions, I will show that not only doesn’t a naïve realist reading of empirical intuitions follow, but also that the naïve realist has hastily overlooked a range of perfectly representationalist readings of intuitions available to Kant and his representationalist allies. On the positive side, I will argue that there is an extra constraint on intuitions—i.e., that givenness does not require presence to consciousness—that directly goes against any naïve realist account of intuitions.
