In what sense did Shakespeare's representation of the Weird Sisters participate in the rewriting of village witchcraft? Was it likely to "encourage the Sword"? Did opera's specific medial conditions ...offer Verdi special opportunities to justify the presence of stage witches more than three centuries later? How valid is the parallel between 19th century opera and the voyeurism of madhouse spectacle? Was Shakespeare's play really engaged in the project of exorcizing Queen Elizabeth's cultural memory? What does Verdi's chorus of Scottish refugees have to do with shifting representations of 'the people'? These are among the questions tackled in this study. It provides the first in-depth comparison of Shakespeare's and Verdi's Macbeth that is written expressly from the perspective of current Shakespearean criticism whilst striving to do justice to the topic's musicological dimension at the same time. Exploring to what extent the play's matrix of possible readings is distinct from Verdi's two operatic versions, the book seeks to relate such differences both to the historical contexts of the works' geneses and to their respective medial conditions. In doing so, it pays particular attention to shifting negotiations of witchcraft, gender, madness, and kingship. The study eventually broadens its discussion to consider other Shakespearean plays and their operatic offshoots, reflecting on some possible relations between historical and medial difference.

A avaliação da qualidade de serviço dos aeroportos brasileiros concedidos é realizada com a utilização do Índice de Qualidade de Serviço (IQS), contratualmente estabelecido pela Agência Nacional de ...Aviação Civil (ANAC). Paralelamente, a Secretaria Nacional de Aviação Civil (SAC) realiza uma pesquisa trimestral de satisfação dos passageiros nos principais aeroportos. Ambos os modelos não consideram, porém, a relevância dos indicadores na avaliação holística do aeroporto. Este artigo avalia a qualidade de serviço dos aeroportos brasileiros concedidos, analisando a relevância dos indicadores que compõem o IQS e comparando os resultados com os obtidos pela ANAC e pela SAC. Para isso, aplicamos o modelo multicritério MACBETH, de forma a estabelecer peso para cada indicador, lançando dados dos dez aeroportos concedidos. Os resultados apresentados mostram que os itens de qualidade mais relevantes para os usuários são o tempo de espera da fila e a cordialidade no atendimento do canal de inspeção. Além disso, ao comparar os resultados obtidos com o MACBETH com aqueles do IQS e do SAC, percebe-se uma diferença considerável entre eles, demonstrando a necessidade de os tomadores de decisão repensarem a legibilidade do método empregado.

Many decision makers still question the usefulness of multi-criteria decision-making methods and prefer to rely on intuitive decisions. In this study we evaluated a number of multi-criteria decision-making tools for their usefulness using incentive-based experiments, which is a novel approach in operations research but common in psychology and experimental economics. In this experiment the participants were asked to compare five coffee shops to win a voucher for their best-rated shop. We found that, although the usefulness of different multi-criteria decision-making tools varied to some extent, all the tools were found to be useful in the sense that, when they decided to change their ranking, they followed the recommendation of the multi-criteria decision-making tool. Moreover, the level of inconsistency in the judgements provided had no significant effect on the usefulness of these tools.

La literatura ha influido en numerosas ocasiones en el mundo de la publicidad. De este modo, los escritos de autores como Cervantes, García Lorca o, más recientemente, Cortázar, han ayudado a vender ...productos de toda índole: vehículos, tabaco, vaqueros o teléfonos móviles. Del mismo modo, hay que señalar que Shakespeare no ha quedado atrás. El sueño de una noche de verano, Romeo y Julieta, Hamlet… han aportado sus textos, escenas o personajes con un fin eminentemente comercial. Y, en este sentido, la obra Macbeth, la historia sobre la traición y la ambición, han dado nombre de marca a algunos productos, ha ayudado a configurar la publicidad de otros e incluso ha servido como argumento para crear productos nuevos, como el caso de Macbeth radio.
The positioning of the sites of the extraction of materials was based for decades, on the economic profit, (existence and abundance of the deposit, proximity of the basins of consumption) and the ...social aspect (number of jobs created), the environmental dimension was little or not taken into account. But because of the negative impacts of this industry more and more felt by the population, and in addition to awareness for the protection of the environment, decision-makers have been forced to rethink their decision-making policies. Thus, it has become necessary to adopt sustainable management of this sector, taking into account environmental, social and economic issues. In this context, our work proposed the mathematical method of decision-making MACBETH (Measuring Attractiveness by a Categorical Based Evaluation Technique). This approach is based on economic, social, and environmental criteria, which have been chosen concerning sustainable development issues. The selection of options reflects the geographical distribution as well as the typology of materials at the level of the study area. Then we evaluated the attractiveness of the options on each weighted criterion following the preferences presented by the decision-makers and finally their aggregation by the MACBETH tool. The implementation of this tool made it possible to evaluate the exploitation of existing quarries at the study area level and to predict the optimization of future locations.
This paper examines how liquidity risk is priced in the cross‐section of cryptocurrency returns. In doing so, we use the Amihud measure as a liquidity proxy. By employing the univariate portfolio ...analysis, the bivariate portfolio analysis, and the Fama‐MacBeth regression analysis, we document a negative relationship between liquidity and cryptocurrency returns. Additional tests demonstrate that this finding is robust to alternative liquidity measurement as well as size screens and show no evidence of a significant intertemporal relationship between liquidity and expected returns for three leading cryptocurrencies. Our conclusions add to the understanding of how markets price cryptocurrencies.
Resumo A arte e a literatura estão presentes de maneira significativa, tanto em Freud quanto em Lacan, entretanto elas se inscrevem de diferentes formas nas duas teorias, isso pode ser melhor ...observado quando os autores se debruçam sobre uma mesma obra, como Hamlet de William Shakespeare. Além desta, Macbeth é outro drama shakespeariano que interessará a Freud por conta da personagem de Lady Macbeth. Diante disso, o artigo analisou as interpretações de Freud acerca dessas duas tragédias shakespearianas, assim como as de Lacan sobre Hamlet, investigando algumas particularidades acerca de relações com a arte e com a literatura. Embora impliquem em interpretações diversas, essas obras reúnem elementos importantes e por vezes com um valor de exemplo paradigmático para reflexões no campo da psicanálise.
Résumé Freud et Lacan font tout deux un usage intensive, mais différent, de l’art et la littérature dans leurs théories. Cela peut être mieux lorsque les auteurs se concentrent sur la même œuvre, comme Hamlet et, dans le cas de Freud, Macbeth de William Shakespeare. Cet article donc analyse la lecture de Freud de ces deux tragédies shakespeariennes, ainsi que l’analyse de Lacan sur Hamlet, en étudiant certaines particularités de leurs relations avec l’art et la littérature. Bien qu’ils impliquent des interprétations différentes, ces travaux rassemblent des éléments importants et ont parfois valeur d’exemple paradigmatique pour les réflexions psychanalytiques.
Abstract Both Freud and in Lacan make extensive, albeit different, use of art and literature in their theories. This can be better observed when they focus on the same work, such as Hamlet and, in Freud’s case, Macbeth by William Shakespeare. Thus, this article analysed Freud’s readings of these two Shakespearean tragedies, as well as Lacan’s analysis of Hamlet, investigating some particularities about their relations with art and literature. Despite differences in interpretation, these works bring together important elements valuable as a paradigmatic example of psychoanalytic reflections.
Resumen El arte y la literatura están presentes de manera significativa, tanto en Freud como en Lacan, sin embargo se inscriben de diferentes formas en ambas teorías, esto se puede observar mejor cuando los autores se enfocan en una misma obra, como Hamlet de William Shakespeare. Además de esto, Macbeth es otro drama de Shakespeare que a Freud le interesará por el personaje de Lady Macbeth. Por tanto, el artículo analizó las interpretaciones de Freud sobre estas dos tragedias de Shakespeare, así como las interpretaciones de Lacan sobre Hamlet, investigando algunas particularidades sobre sus relaciones con el arte y la literatura. Aunque implican diferentes interpretaciones, estas obras reúnen elementos importantes y, en ocasiones, con el valor de un ejemplo paradigmático para las reflexiones en el campo del psicoanálisis.
