Objective: To evaluate whether the prognostic scoring system is appropriate for colonic diverticular perforation as well as colonic perforation of other etiologies. The scoring system for colonic ...diverticular perforation was also evaluated. 【Methods】 We retrospectively evaluated the data of 81 consecutive cases of colonic perforation at our institution. Patient information, laboratory results, perioperative information, and the Prognostic Scoring System data were compared between the 27 cases of diverticular perforation and 54 cases of colonic perforation of other etiologies. The data were also compared between the living and deceased surviving and non-surviving patients with diverticular perforation. 【Results】A statistically significant difference between the group with diverticular perforation and that with colonic perforation of other etiologies was observed only in the interval from onset to the hospital visit. Between the surviving and non-surviving patients with diverticular perforation, statistically significant differences were observed in the data on preoperative organ disorders, Physiological and Operative Severity Score for the Enumeration of Mortality and Morbidity (POSSUM), and the Mannheim peritonitis index. 【Conclusion】 The prognostic scoring system is applicable and useful for the evaluation of patients with colonic diverticular perforation in addition to those with colonic perforation of other etiologies.
Since the early twentieth century, generation has been a recurrent concept in social analysis. In spite of successive bouts of critique and periods of relative neglect, the category has never been ...abandoned. In this article, drawing inspiration from a broad range of thinkers – such as José Ortega y Gasset, Karl Mannheim, Antonio Gramsci, Pierre Bourdieu, Raymond Williams and Stuart Hall – we review and fine tune our conceptual toolkit regarding generations, making more explicitly visible its affordances for social analysis in times of crisis. We focus on the problem of intergenerational overlap of contemporaneity and the contradictions that emerge from it. We argue that the notion of coevalness can help us resolve some of these contradictions – for example, the lag between contemporaneity and generational awareness – and introduce, through its horizontal connotations, a decolonising ethical stance. Favouring a processual understanding of generation, we recommend ‘conjunctural analysis’ as the most flexible analytical framework for resolving the intersectional contradictions and overlaps of generational categorisation.
From the late 1980s until now, scholars, educators and social workers have criticised the diminution of interest in the structural level of social problems. In this lament, former social work is ...beguiled, while critiques are targeted at the new generation of social workers. These critiques forewarn of important issues and problems, but at the same time they portray social work in a devolutionary way. It is argued that this one-sided debate conceals frictions between different generations of social workers. In reference to the work of Karl Mannheim, an intergenerational perspective is proposed that goes beyond nostalgic relishing of the past and calls on social work to actively engage with past remembrance and present evolutions.
In this study, we introduce the adjoint curves of framed curves. We examine some characterizations of adjoint curve of a framed curve. In addition, we give the conditions for framed curves and ...adjoint curves to be Bertrand and Mannheim curves. Then, we introduce adjoint curves of Frenet-type framed curves and give ruled surfaces related to adjoint curves. Finally, we create normal and binormal surfaces of the framed adjoint curves and obtain some characterizations of these surfaces and we support by the results with figures.
•The concept of "zeitgeist" allows us to identify period-specific cultural patterns.•Zeitgeists do not necessarily define their period, can overlap in complex ways.•Formal analysis of properties of ...zeitgeist can complement in-depth interpretation.•Properties include: duration, scope, course, and media and carriers.•Media and carriers include social groups and objects.
Current research on culture rarely differentiates explicitly between period-specific and other kinds of cultural patterns. This paper develops the concept of “zeitgeist” as a tool for sociological analysis. I propose we understand zeitgeist as a hypothesis for a pattern in meaningful practices that is specific to a particular historical time-period, links different realms of social life and social groups, and extends across geographical contexts. As such zeitgeist sensitises us to a phenomenon that can be described independently of and alongside other cultural phenomena such as trans-historical schemas or binaries or group-specific patterns. Dissociated from an idealist tradition in historiography, which makes strong assumptions about periods as coherent entities, tends to allocate one zeitgeist to one period, and assumes that zeitgeist is held together by the coherence of a set of ideas, zeitgeists can be described and compared according to their formal properties: We can ask how zeitgeists extend in time and social space and by what media and socio-material carriers the patterns of zeitgeists are held together.

In this paper, we study on linear, cyclic, self-dual and self-orthogonal codes over the ring
R

. We especially focus on extremal self-dual codes over

. We define a distance-invariant Gray map from

under this Gray map correspond to self-dual codes of length

. We obtain some self-dual codes and some optimal quantum codes.
In this paper, a special kind of curve pair associated with each other by the linear dependency between the principal normal vector of the first curve (called Mannheim curve) and the binormal vector ...of the second curve (called Mannheim partner curve) is considered. A connection with the coupled dispersionless equation and Mannheim curve pair is established. Also, the Lax pair of the obtained coupled dispersionless equation from the motions of any Mannheim curve pair is given. This gives us a significant condition based on the curvature and torsion of any Mannheim curve for its integrability since it is well-known that the Lax pair provides the integrability of di erential equations.
