Morel-Lavallée lesion (MLL) is a closed soft-tissue degloving injurie resulting from shear forces. With the advent of endoscopic technology and advancements in surgical techniques, innovative ...solutions are now available. However, there are few data on mid-term results after treatment of MLL, especially regarding arthroscopic method. The objective of this study is to evaluate the clinical outcomes of endoscopic debridement combined with percutaneous cutaneo-fascial suture in treating MLL.
A single-center retrospective study was conducted at a university teaching hospital investigating patients who underwent arthroscopic management of Morel-Lavallée lesion between 2014 and 2020.Patient demographics, postoperative recovery time, peri- and postoperative complications were investigated. Mid-term follow up clinical and radiological examinations were performed.
The retrospective study included 38 patients aged between 11 and 90 years, with an average age of 50.9 ± 16.9 years. These patients waited an average of 36.6±23.5days to return to work after operation. The average time to follow-up was from 3 to 9 years, averaging 5.0 ± 1.8 years. At the end of follow-up, only one complication of superficial skin necrosis occurred, accounting for 2.6%. The imaging assessment at the final follow-up indicated improvement over the postoperative period for all 38patients.
In mid-term experience, endoscopic debridement combined with percutaneous cutaneo-fascial suture for MLL management is a safe and effective option.

Trauma patients present to the emergency department with various injuries. Few injuries can be easily missed during the evaluation of polytrauma patients. We report one such rare injury in a trauma ...patient.
We report the case of a 67-year-old man who presented to the emergency department with an alleged history of trauma. He reported severe pain in the lower abdomen, right hip, and right thigh. An x-ray study did not reveal any bony injury, and an extended focused assessment with sonography in trauma was also negative. Point-of-care ultrasound of his right thigh revealed the presence of a Morel-Lavallée lesion.
Morel-Lavallée lesions are post-traumatic, closed, degloving injuries that go unnoticed in many polytrauma patients. Emergency physicians should be mindful of this lesion because delay in diagnosis can result in significant complications.
A Morel-Lavallée lesion results from a degloving injury between the muscle fascia and the subcutaneous layer. It is most commonly found in the trochanteric area but can occur at other sites. The ...treatment of the condition varies according to the medical circumstances, as well as the size and chronicity of the condition. A case of large (18×6 and 10×5 cm) bilateral posttraumatic Morel-Lavallée lesions with no underlying bone fracture is presented; the case occurred in a 49-year-old male patient 4 weeks posttrauma. Ultrasound scans showed bilateral large collections of anechoic fluid, which were aspirated under ultrasound guidance and further managed by compression bandages. There were no further complications. The objective of this case report is to present this unique and educational case, as well as to provide an overview of the pathophysiology, diagnosis, and management of Morel-Lavallée lesions. We conclude by discussing the importance of having a high index of suspicion to ensure early detection and prompt treatment of such lesions to avoid complications.
Objective: To study the frequency, clinical presentation, management and outcome of degloving soft-tissue injuries.
Study Design: Case series.
Place and Duration of Study: Department of Surgery, ...Federal General Hospital, Islamabad Pakistan, from Jan 2018 to Dec 2019.
Methodology: This study included 28 consecutive patients with degloving injuries. Patients with degloving injuries of the soft tissue were included. Initial assessments of all patients were done according to advanced trauma life support. Regular clinical examination for abnormalities such as excessive local pain that was out of line with the intensity of the trauma, extensive ecchymosis or hematomas, and especially, local and regional hypermobility of the skin, capillary refill and perfusion of the area.
Results: Out of 28 patients, there were 25 males (9.28%) and three females (10.72%). The mean age was 33.07±9.04 years with a range of 6-50 years. The thigh was the most frequently involved area by degloving injury (25.00%). The back was involved in 17.85% of patients. Leg (10.71%) and foot (10.71%) were involved in 21.42% of patients. From the management point of view, 42.85% of patients had some form of debridement and healing by secondary intention, 17.85% patients were managed conservatively, and 10.71 % of the patients' primary closure was successful.
Conclusion: Degloving soft-tissue injury is debilitating and, if not taken care may lead to ischemia necrosis, infection and septicemia of the tissues, which needs extensive debridement, prolonged use of broad-spectrum antibiotics, which result in disability and protracted course of rehabilitation.
The Morel-Lavallée lesion is an uncommon closed degloving injury that most often occurs in the setting of high-energy trauma and can be associated with other traumatic injuries, including fractures ...of the pelvis, acetabulum, or femur. The superficial soft tissues are forcibly separated from the underlying deep fascia, resulting in damage to penetrating blood vessels and lymphatics. A fluid collection consisting of lymph, blood, and/or necrotic tissue subsequently develops and is most common in the region of the greater trochanter. Awareness of this entity is important to prevent a delay in diagnosis and decrease the risk of potential complications such as pseudocyst formation, pressure necrosis of the overlying skin, chronic pain, and infection. We present the case of a 49-year-old man who noticed a fluid collection in his right lateral upper thigh 1 week after slipping and falling down half a flight of stairs. Ultrasound demonstrated a fusiform fluid collection between the subcutaneous fat and underlying deep fascia, consistent with a Morel-Lavallée lesion. After reviewing various treatment options, the patient elected to undergo nonsurgical management. The lesion persisted but substantially improved 6 weeks after the initial injury. This case underscores the need to consider Morel-Lavallée lesions in the appropriate clinical context.
Morel‐Lavallée lesion is a closed soft tissue degloving injury usually associated with high‐velocity trauma. It most commonly occurs in the thigh, hip, and pelvis. Because such lesions are prone to a ...missed or delayed diagnosis, it may present a potential risk of infection at the fracture site once it progresses. Therefore, timely identification and management of Morel‐Lavallée lesion is crucial. Moreover, there are no relevant guidelines for the treatment of Morel‐Lavallée lesion. Based on the above facts, we reviewed the etiology, epidemiology, pathophysiology, clinical presentation, imaging features, treatment, prognosis, and complications of Morel‐Lavallée lesion with the aim of providing a comprehensive overview of Morel‐Lavallée lesion, increasing awareness of this injury among orthopaedic surgeons, and thus providing a management algorithm that can be applied to this injury.
Morel-Lavallée lesions are post-traumatic, internal degloving injuries associated with substantial patient mortality that are frequently undetected due to often presenting days to weeks after initial ...injury. Delay of diagnosis can perpetuate complications such as expansion and infection (Mutluoglu et al., 2021 1). A 46 year old male presented with a Morel-Lavallée lesion to the left anterior thigh and hip two weeks after receiving emergency care after an accident where he was thrown from his motorcycle. It is paramount that physicians consider this diagnosis when evaluating post-traumatic patients to mitigate lesion expansion, overlying skin necrosis, underlying fracture exposure and subsequent infection.
