" "A complete poet is a complete human being-not a specialist, a technician comprehensible chiefly to fellow technicians-who works as the universe itself works," says Root, "building out of elemental ...materials those increasingly profound structures in which may live and breathe the astonishing and mysterious varieties of the human spirit."
Political Poetry in the Wake of the Second Spanish Republic analyzes the simultaneous development of politics and poetics in three Spanish-language poets, Rafael Alberti, Nicolás Guillén, and Pablo ...Neruda, as it was nurtured by the Second Spanish Republic (1931-1939).

Facebook is many things, but it's a generally accepted fact that it's a place where people project a fantasy version of themselves and brag--humbly, of course, and sometimes obliquely--about their ...accomplishments. Its second most prominent use may be as a platform for outrage, but outrage expressed on Facebook can be similarly self-serving, as it carries with it a second message: look at me in my righteous outrage. In any case, people would think that a writer with an enviable career would be less susceptible to the Facebook effect, the "everyone is happier, more successful, and better looking than I am" effect. Here, Kuebler talks about how Facebook can be a special kind of hell for writers.
There is currently a context of climate change due to the way modern cities are developed, and they are made up mainly of impermeable surfaces and concrete buildings that change the hydrological ...cycle, causing (i) an increase in temperatures, (ii) the accumulation of stormwater on different surfaces, (iii) overflow in drainage systems, and (iv) the alteration of ventilation patterns, among others. This article presents a case study on the implementation of a permeable interlocking concrete paving (PICP) system, and it develops physical–mathematical modeling using software for the design of a parking lot that currently does not have adequate paving and urban drainage, resulting in sporadic flooding due to heavy rainfall in the city of Temuco, La Araucanía region, Chile. This article’s contribution highlights the application of new technology in Chile, discussing road infrastructure solutions based on sustainable urban drainage systems (SUDSs), which seek to implement feasible alternatives in urban sectors to improve human livelihood. The factors studied include structural and hydrological properties, along with the infiltration analysis of the system according to historical rainfall records in the area. This research concludes that the permeable pavement system with a drainage pipe and smooth roughness coefficient performs satisfactorily for an extreme hydrometeorological event corresponding to 140 mm considering 24 h of rainfall with a return period of 100 years equivalent to an inflow of 673 m3/day. Finally, the results indicate that, at least in the conditions of the city of Temuco, the use of permeable interlocking concrete pavement (PICP) proves to be a sustainable and feasible alternative to implementing measures of adaptation and mitigation against climate change, reducing the city’s flooding zones and allowing the irrigation of urban green areas.
The Cold War motivated the international cultural field to replicate the geopolitical tensions and affinities that gripped the world. The positive side of this process contributed to the expansion of ...national literatures in environments where traditionally they had not found great resonance. However, the perverse effects were translated into various exclusions and dogmatic impositions that undermined the autonomy of writers. Latin American literature experienced, in this context, a process of globalization. The aim of this text is to testify to the complexities inherent to the reception of this literature in socialist Romania, for which a remarkable set of periodicals is analyzed, especially from 1964 to 1971.The translation, edition and physical reception of the Latin American authors themselves it was produced according to changing structural determinations, which show the evolution of the Romanian political-cultural field itself, but also thanks to individual gatekeepers who brought Latin American literature closer to the Romanian public.
La mala memoria, the autobiography of Heberto Padilla published in 1989, has been studied to date as a source of information on the controversy known as "the Padilla case" of 1971. But the work can ...also be studied as a testimony of the experience of direct contact of Latin American writers with Soviet socialism. That experience is decisive in the concrete ideological evolution of the Cuban poet. From this perspective, the famous "Padilla case" could be analyzed from the Sovietization of the Cuban revolution, which Heberto Padilla discovered early, nine years before the controversy, and which he explains in detail in La mala memoria.
Keywords: Neruda, Brazil, nature, poetry, committed intellectual, Communist Party.
Using some of Neruda's own writing, the author paints vivid word pictures of the scenes that intrigued Neruda, a careful observer who noticed nature's artistry through the "stones rolled by waves ...onto the beach and stones polished by sand and salt."
