Provider: - Institution: - Data provided by Europeana Collections- Der ab 1515 entworfene querformatige Holzschnitt, "Die Schutzheiligen von Österreich" vorstellend, wurde in verschiedenen Versionen ...verbreitet: Während Bartsch nur den zweiten Zustand mit acht Heiligen samt den charakterisierenden Unterschriften kannte, erwähnt Heller 1827 bereits die ihm zufolge "ersten, sehr seltenen Abdrücke" mit nur sechs Heiligen. Zudem verweist er auf ein unterhalb abgedrucktes Gedicht, das zumeist abgeschnitten sei. (Vgl. Heller Dürer 1827 II.677.1880) Der ursprüngliche, von Dürer entworfene Holzschnitt zeigt die Heiligen Quirin, Maximilian, Florian, Severin, Koloman und Leopold dicht beiander stehend. Bei dem lateinischen Text unterhalb der Figurenbenennungen handelt es sich um ein Gebet von Johannes Stabius an die Schutzheiligen Österreichs (vgl. Schoch II.386). 1517 erfolgte eine Erweiterung der Heiligenreihe um Poppo und Otto durch die Anstückung eines wohl von Dürers Schüler Hans Springinklee entworfenen Holzstock. Die Haltung der hinzugekommenen Heiligen zueinander isoliert sie optisch von den anderen. In dieser Version wurde der Text von Stabius in drei statt zwei Spalten gedruckt, blieb jedoch inhaltlich gleich. Der Nürnberger Sammler, Hans Albrecht von Derschau (1755-1824), mit dem Heller in regem Briefkontakt stand (vgl. JH.Comm.lit.4 und 5 der Staatsbibliothek Bamberg), besaß die Druckform, die sich heute im Berliner Kupferstichkabinett (Slg. Derschau Nr. 40, vgl.
