Abstract
Queer films are largely absent from Indonesian cinema and television screens due to the country's current climate of LGBT 'moral panic'. This article examines how, two decades after the ...reformation, Indonesian film practitioners are forced to navigate complex configurations of power and knowledge-negotiating social, political, and religious entanglements through their cinematic practices. My analysis is focused on komunitas film (film community/ies) and, more specifically, events and activities surrounding Luhki Herwanayogi's short film On Friday Noon (2016), which chronicles the emotionally and physically fraught journey of a transgender Muslim woman as she seeks to perform Friday prayers. Drawing on this example, the article explores the disruptive potential of cinematic practice to challenge and nullify the ostensible binary between Islam and queerness, showing alternative ways of being Muslim in contemporary Indonesia, where piety and sexual identity often come together in unexpected ways.
The Afar people have a rich poetic tradition pertaining to every aspect of their pastoral way of life in the harsh condition of the Afar desert. One of the many genres of Afar poetics is Afar Kassow ...the folk's poetized performance art. Scholars such as Morin and Hassan have identified the types and to some extent utilities of the various genres of Afar poetics, including Kassow however none fully presented the rich poetic tradition of the Afar society. The Afar Kassow is presented as poetry of accusation, defiance and resistance per se. Nonetheless, the vital utility of Afar Kassow for building consensus, empathy and understanding across wider geographic, political and social space has been unattended. It has a unique illocutionary and creative power emended in addressing the immediacy of the concrete and existential needs of the Afar people in the Horn. The poetics and politics of Afar Kassow have not been examined at wider scale and in a cross-generational manner from the period of Tola Hanfexe the leading poet of 19th century Afar to date. Therefore, this study, based on primary and secondary data, brings to light the multidimensional utility of Afar Kassow and related genres from multi-disciplinary vintage point. The authors argue that the imperative for invigorating the powerful role of Afar Kassow to keep historical themes reverberating across generations in the service of ideal of peace, reconciliation and democratic toleration of differences to the troubled local and regional relations in the Afar-Horn states. Still more vital is its utility for reducing violence (in all its forms and manifestations), increasing justice and constructive transformation of local and regional conflicts.
This paper raises the need to implement other strategies to allow the encounter with contemporary art in museum spaces to resignify Art Education in the training of teachers. For this reason, it ...starts from the potential of developing participatory and artistic proposals in the art centre, as a means to resize the experience, and as a possibility to modify, among the students of the Degrees of Early Childhood and Primary Education of the University of Malaga (Spain), their mindset about contemporary art, visits to museums and the experience of the educational space con-cerning group interaction. As a result, this approach helps the transition from an individualistic and strictly passive conception to an active and collective construction, based on performative experiences. The artistic-narrative re-search methodology allows access to the choral account of the experience and its analysis, evidencing its impact on the students and teachers involved. The results confirm the suitability of proposals that choose to generate other dynamics capable of endowing the students with autonomy from the work, capable of promoting another type of experience of the educational and museum space, and capable, also, of enabling the collective encounter from a position aesthetic, critical and active. This research is linked to the Research Project A connected classroom. The teaching portfolio as a narrative-artistic resource of research and learning, in the training of teachers of Primary Education (2019-2020), in the First Plan of Research and Transfer of the University of Malaga.

The body is a dialogical, incarnational and sacramental entity. But how may the Christian imagination conceptualize and depict this fact? This contribution uses a provocative piece of art as a modern ...framing of the constant intersection of the sacred and secular. It starts by looking at Merleau-Ponty’s phenomenology of perception, continues to discuss Luce Irigaray’s notion of the sensible transcendental and then concludes by way of feminist metaphysics. It is argued that these three schools of thinking provide a helpful framework with which to unpack the theological nuances in Pyotr Pavlensky’s Carcass (2013). Towards the end of the contribution it is shown that Carcass is in fact cruciform when read through the doctrine of the incarnation and that one need not look far to see the Word made flesh in the everydayness of life.
This study revisits a sandwich decade in Portugal’s contemporary history – the 1980s – which is still largely to be explored. The importance of the performing arts and experimental poetry within this ...transition period is identified and highlighted through the analysis of some of the aesthetic changes that took place during the “dysphoric hangover” following the 1974 Carnation Revolution. The analysis centers around a series of poetry happenings organized at the time by Ana Hatherly, E. M. de Melo e Castro, Fernando Aguiar, and Alberto Pimenta. The aim is to describe the specificities of the volatile and celebratory aesthetic phenomenology characterizing these artistic experiments.
