This book deals with many aspects of the Roman sanctuary erected at the spring in Pula, Croatia, as well as with objects of cult dated to the Hellenistic period. A hypothetical reconstruction of the ...Roman sanctuary is presented followed by calculations of construction costs.
In the quarter of St. Theodore in Pula, next to the public thermae and Hercules' sanctuary, in 2005, most part of the luxurious domus was excavated. The domus was inhabited from the third quarter of ...the 1st century BC to the 5th century AD, with one major restoration after the fire in the beginning of the 2nd century AD. Architectonic cult indicators are a threshold mosaic with Dionysian motifs of kantharos and wine, niches in the walls and elements of marble architectural decoration of cult spaces, a capital and an architrave. A total of six niches were discovered, one with a white and black mosaic depicting a shell, an altar and containing a dedication to the goddess of Salus. Small finds are represented by various objects used in rituals or objects symbolizing the divine presence. Fragments of the censer with letter-shaped openings, fragments of a large calcite alabaster crater, a clay vessel fragment with a theatrical mask in relief, clay lamps with figures of Minerva and Medusa were found in the triclinium. The finds of Corinthian drinking cups decorated with Dionysian scenes come from other rooms, and from the drainage channel comes a bronze medallion with the Medusa head probably belonging to a carriage. The findings from the domus confirm the presence of cults in every aspect of everyday life. A peculiar niche dedicated to Salus is associated with the neighbouring public thermae and the sanctuary of Hercules built at the sacred spring.

usmjerio je svoju djelatnost u proučavanju, praćenju i razradi čitave
turističke problematike, radeći niz analiza, osvrta i prijedloga kako bi s
godinama turizam postao ...najvažnija privredna grana na području Kotara Pule.
Funkcije su Saveza bile pružiti pomoć pri osnivanju i organizaciji turističkih
društava te koordinirati rad članova Saveza, pomagati u izgradnji i uređenju
turističkih objekata, pomagati organima »narodne
vlasti« u
unapređenju turizma, brinuti o uspostavljanju i poboljšanju prometnih veza i s
time u svezi surađivati i posredovati kod nadležnih organa za promet, potom izrađivati
analize o turizmu u zemlji i inozemstvu, o odnosu turizma prema ostalim
privrednim i kulturnim granama te komparirati razvoj turizma s onim u
razvijenijim zemljama itd.

Pula i Rijeka
. Spomenuti se kotari spajaju u jednu društveno-političku
zajednicu – Kotar Rijeka sa sjedištem u Rijeci. Savez je prestao s radom 30.
studenoga 1965. zbog spajanja s Turističkim savezom Rijeka.
The Tourist Association of the Pula District focused its activities on
studying, monitoring and elaborating the entire tourism issue, doing a series
of analyses, reviews and proposals to make tourism the most important industry
in the Pula District over the years. The functions of the Association were to
provide assistance in the establishment and organization of tourist
associations and to coordinate the work of the members of the Association, to
assist in the construction and fitting out of tourist facilities, to assist the
bodies of the "people's government" in promoting tourism. to
cooperate and mediate with the competent transport authorities, to make
analyses on tourism in the country and abroad, on the relationship of tourism
with other economic and cultural branches and to compare the development of
tourism with that in more developed countries, etc.
1965 saw the adoption of the
Merger of the Pula and Rijeka Districts
Act
. The two districts were merged into one socio-political community – the
Rijeka District established in Rijeka. The Association ceased to operate on 30th
November 1965 due to the merger with the Rijeka Tourist Association.
L'Associazione turistica del distretto di Pola ha incentrato
la propria attività sullo studio, monitoraggio ed elaborazione delle questioni
relative al turismo, fornendo una serie di analisi, osservazioni e proposte
affinché, col passare degli anni, il turismo diventasse il ramo più importante
dell'economia sul territorio del distretto di Pola. Le funzioni
dell'Associazione consistevano nell'offrire aiuto nell'istituzione e
organizzazione delle società turistiche nonché nella coordinazione delle
attività dei membri dell'Associazione, offrire aiuto nella costruzione e
nell'allestimento delle strutture turistiche, agli organi dell'“autorità
popolare“ nella promozione del turismo, nella cura della realizzazione e il
miglioramento dei collegamenti nel traffico e in riferimento a ciò nella
collaborazione e mediazione con gli organi competenti, inoltre l'Associazione
effettuava analisi relative al turismo nazionale ed internazionale, alla
relazione del turismo rispetto agli altri settori dell'economia e della cultura
e comprava lo sviluppo del turismo con quello degli altri Paesi più avanzati,
ecc.
Nel 1965 è stata adottata la
Legge sull'unione dei distretti di Pola e
Fiume
. I citati distretti vengono uniti in un'unica unità politico-sociale
– il Distretto di Fiume con sede a Fiume. L'Associazione ha smesso di operare
il 30 novembre del 1965 a seguito dell'unione con l'Associazione turistica di
Fiume.
The paper's subject is fifteen copper alloy lamps of various types and sizes from the Roman Collection of the Archaeological Museum of Istria, mostly collected in the first half of the 20th century ...in Istria and on the island of Cres. The lamps were classified according to shape into six basic types and compared with other finds to gain insight into the chronological framework, workshop centers, and distribution routes. Figural depictions on lamps have been interpreted as mythological and cult significance. The available data on the circumstances of the findings were analyzed and compared with the other data, from which assumptions were made about the possible time and causes of the storage of copper alloy lamps in hoards. The possible value of the copper alloy lamps is estimated according to their weight.
The paper describes previous maps of the Diocese of Poreč and Pula and creation of a new map of the Diocese made and published after many changes and long-time research at the Faculty of Geodesy, ...University of Zagreb. The data collection of the general geographic content and the sacral content was the first step for the new map visualization of the Diocese. It also describes different problems for special map contents and observed shortcomings on the previous maps, and how they are solved. The research objective was the creation of the new map of the Diocese based on the collected and verified data, showing the exact borders of the Diocese and current borders of the deaneries with current seats. On the new map (
Main Map
) at a scale of 1:120 000, the parish borders with the seats and names of parishes are depicted for the first time.
The subject of this paper is the work of Franz Jaksch (1851–1931), a versatile musician who served as the bandmaster of the Imperial and Royal Navy Orchestra in Pula, the main port of the ...Austro-Hungarian monarchy in the period between 1899 and 1917. It was in Pula that he composed most of his pieces tailored for military orchestras, opera stages and bourgeois salons. During his bandmaster term, the Navy Orchestra performed some of the most significant orchestral pieces from the symphonic repertoire.

U članku se sažeto obrađuju nove spoznaje i rezultati istraživanja s najnužnijim informacijama o izvornom izgledu Amfiteatra u Puli podignutog sredinom 1. st.pr.Kr., od kojeg su se do danas, usprkos ...znatnim višestoljetnim destrukcijama, ipak sačuvali opsežni ostaci koji omogućuju vjerodostojnu virtualnu rekonstrukciju njegovih nestalih dijelova. Istaknuta je i njegova posebnost kao rano arhitektonsko djelo ostvareno na prijelazu amfiteatara iz drvene u kamenu konstrukciju, potvrđenu četirima istaknutim specifičnim tornjevima s ukrižanim drvenim stubištima, drvenim palubama i velarijem, kao i drugim prostornim značajkama. Proučavanjem integralnog izgleda Amfiteatra (1976.2016.) došlo se do novih saznanja u otkrivanju bitnih arhitektonskih sklopova i detalja njegova izvornog stanja.
This article brings forward new knowledge and research results including some basic information about the original appearance of the amphitheatre in Pula built in the mid-1st century BC. Although severely damaged through centuries, the structure is remarkably well preserved, allowing an authentic virtual reconstruction of its missing parts. The article points out its unique character as it was built at the time when wood replaced stone in the construction of amphitheatres. It is confirmed here by four projected towers with wooden staircases, wooden decks and a velarium, and some other spatial characteristics. Studying the amphitheatre’s integral appearance (1976-2016) has provided fresh insight into its original architectural features and details.
Veliki svjetski pisac James Joyce kraće je vrijeme (30. listopada 1904. – 5. ožujka 1905.) u Puli poučavao engleski jezik u jednoj od Berlitzovih škola, a polaznici tečaja su bili uglavnom austrijski ...mornarički časnici. U ovom radu, nakon pregleda osnovnih bio-bibliografskih podataka o Joyceu i prilika pod kojima je došao u najvažniju luku Dvojne Monarhije, autorica razmatra njegovo poučavanje u kontekstu tada prevladavajuće direktne ili prirodne metode nastale pod okriljem pokreta čiji je glavni cilj bio unijeti istinske promjene u nastavu stranih jezika. Rad, dakle, jest rijedak suvremeni prilog istraživanju povijesti nastave engleskog jezika u nas, a mogao bi također pobuditi zanimanje onih koje zanima književnost znamenitog irskog pisca.
A great master of the world literature, James Joyce (1882-1941), spent a shorter period (30th October 1904 – 5th March 1905) in Pula, teaching English to the Austrian officers in one of the Berlitz schools, which was very influential at that time. This paper first surveys the key bio-bibliographical data about Joyce and presents the circumstances of his arrival to the most important naval port in the Austro-Hungarian Monarchy, and then considers their possible influences on his writing. Special attention is paid to the above-mentioned school and its activities, pointing out the specific features of the Berlitz method, even today easily identified around the world, since it had a significant role in developing the methodology of foreign language teaching, especially before the Great War. It should be emphasised that data under this analysis have largely resulted from his correspondence mostly with his brother and the local newspaper clips about the foreign language learning courses. Regarding Joyce in such an unusual context, the paper should be seen also as a contribution to research on the history of English teaching and learning in the Republic of Croatia, and might be interesting to experts in the history of literature, particularly the ones studying the life and work of the famous Irish writer.

A soil map (1:50,000 scale) was recently produced in Sardinia (Italy) using a cost-effective GIS approach. In this study we aimed to verify, in two pilot areas and by means of statistical analysis, the effectiveness of the adopted methodology in representing and predicting the spatial distribution of soil types and properties. We focused on evaluation of 1) the influence of landforms and parent materials on soil types (WRB Reference Soil Groups) and selected soil properties and 2) the suitability of the adopted methodology for calibrating a model to predict land unit composition in terms of different soil types.
Leptosols, Regosols and Cambisols were prevalent on slopes, with Leptosols being more frequent on convex slopes and Regosols and Cambisols on concave slopes. In flat areas, soil types mainly depended on the type and age of parent material, with Regosols and Cambisols prevailing on Holocene deposits and highly developed soils (mainly Luvisols) largely prevailing on Pleistocene deposits. On hard rock, Leptosols were very frequent on terrigenous metamorphic rock and frequent on granite. Besides Leptosols, Regosols occurred more frequently than Cambisols on both parent materials. Landforms strongly influenced soil depth and available water capacity. Soils on plains were deeper than those on slopes, where convex forms had shallower soils than concave forms. A similar trend applied to the available water capacity. The parent material had a significant effect on topsoil properties (thickness, texture, pH and organic carbon content) of soils belonging to the same WRB Reference Soil Group (analysis done on the most relevant WRB Reference Soil Groups, i.e. Leptosols, Regosols and Cambisols).
We calibrated and tested stepwise multiple linear regressions (MLR) and general linear models (GLM) to predict the composition of map units in terms of different WRB Reference Soil Groups. The two models gave very similar results, with distinct distribution patterns that were coherent with the relationships observed between soil groups and specific combination of terrain attributes and parent materials. Results showed that both models were more reliable in predicting the absence rather than presence of a given soil type.
U radu su analizirani tekstovi židovskih hodočasnika koji su u razdoblju od prve polovice 15. do druge polovice 16. st. prošli hrvatskom obalom Jadrana na putu u Erec Izrael. Obrađeni su motivi ...putovanja, imovinsko stanje i zanimanje te odnos sredine u kojoj su boravili kao pripadnici talijanske zajednice aškenaza. Ujedno su komparirani svi karakteristični sadržajni elementi tekstova s putopisima napisanima od strane kršćanskih hodočasnika kako bi se uočile sličnosti i razlike.
