This paper approaches the theme of oblivion through the problem of unknown authorship in Serbian literature of the 18th century. Along with poetry published by known authors, printed publications or ...manuscripts preserve an extensive corpus of poems recorded and published by anonymous authors. Majority of such poems belongs to the corpus of socalled civic poetry – a special typological whole. For some poetic records, it is not possible to state with certainty who the author is. However, there are some assumptions based primarily on verses in Hristifor Žefarović’s Stematography (1741) and also on the emblematic collection, Itika Jeropolitika (1774), where emblems are accompanied by some anonymous verses. By proposing the typology of anonymous poetry, our goal is to define the problem and to determine possible poetic characteristics.
The subject of this work is the image of Spain in Read Cities by Radovan Vučković. The writer, visiting Spanish cities such as Madrid, Toledo, Barcelona and Gerona, refers in the book Read Cities to ...other Serbian authors (Petrović, Andrić, Crnjanski, Dučić) who wrote about Spain. The structure of Vučković's book is reminiscent of the volume Cities and Chimeras by Jovan Dučić, where the historical reflection is more important than the present. Vučković infused his book with so many architectural details, descriptions of buildings, monuments, and paintings that the reader may get lost in them, like a tourist in an unknown city.
Atanasije Dimitrijević Sekereš (1738-1794) was one of the most educated Serbs in the second half of the XVIII century. Unfortunately, this Viennese censor of Serbian books and Dositej’s long-lasting ...friend was one of the most hated and scorned persons amongst the Serbian population and priests in the then Austria. Although Atanasije’s friendship with Dositej Obradović (1739/1740-1811) is one of the key reasons why his name was not completely forgotten, Dositej – the famous Serbian enlightener was not responsible why Atanasije Dimitrijević Sekereš was for almost twenty years persona non grata amongst his compatriots in the Austrian empire. The very search for the reasons why the name of this gifted polyglot of delicate health became synonym for unforgivable betrayal, almost equalling the one that Vuk Branković (allegedly) did, is the topic of our research.
Translating Poetry from Serbian to Italian: Two Languages in Comparison in Desanka Maksimović’s Verses. Starting from the Italian translations of the poems of Desanka Maksimović, one of the most ...beloved and well-known Yugoslav authors of the 20th century, this work provides insights into the challenging theme of poetic translation, with particular attention to the rhythmic aspect. It illustrates some of the main linguistic and creative difficulties that a translator may encounter when translating from Serbian to Italian and explores from a linguistic standpoint the solutions proposed by authors such as Arturo Cronia and Giacomo Scotti.
Njegos's poetics basically contains the Orthodox anthropology learning, by which a man was created in the image of God. The issues have been studied in the paradigms of the poem Misao (“Thought”) and ...the philosophical-religious epic poem Luča Mikrokozma (“The Ray of the Microcosm”), using phenomenological as well as the other good methods of literature studies. The encounter between the God and a man happens in the heart of a man; and this meeting is creative, inspiring and most important as it happens at a metaphysical level. It drives a man's longing for infinity. Man's thoughts are directed towards finding and revealing the miraculous secret of the Epiphany. On this path the Njegoš's man is interested in the man's fall and exile from the Heaven. The experience acquired leading the man to God and eternity. Such a man who answered the question of God and eternity, conscious of the physical earthly transience, adapts himself into the passing of time as he knows that he is a "being-on-the-road-to-death" so directing his thoughts towards preparing the soul for meeting with the eternity. Concerning this subject, Njegoš raises important questions of man's existential drama presenting “a man in sin” if he deviates from the essence of his humanity, the link to the source, with the God in Christ.
The relevance of the analysis is due to the fact that the poetics of literary trends, trends and styles of the late XX – early XXI century characterized by a variety of implementation methods. ...Intermediate is considered one of its modes. The modern history of the art of words in Serbia separately demonstrates a convincing statement of “new genre meanings of an expressed combined character.” Analytical coverage of the experience of the intermediate format of literary actualization of the poetics of fine art is the purpose of this article. The novelty of the presented material lies in the precedent systematization of individual manifestations of intermediality in the discourse of the Serbian novel. The study is based on the productivity of the method of structural analysis in combination with the culture-semiotic approach. In the novels by D. Kish “Klepsidra”, S. Basara “Fama about cyclists”, M. Pavich “Khazar Dictionary”, “Second Body” there is a separate form of intermediality, which is associated with formal-visual inclusion of graphic fragments in the space of prose text. Reproductions, integrated by the artists into their works, testify to the precedents of form and sense actualization according to the principle of psychologization of the visual image, which allows making a more detailed, virtuosic depiction of emotional movements of iconic characters, their spiritual evolution. In conclusion, it should be admitted that in images that are tangent to the intermedia field or appear in it are brought to the constructive level of worldview concepts established in postmodern philosophy. Thus, in the novels of well-known Serbian writers there is a separate precedent of formal and semantic activation of the expressive means of fine arts, in particular the genre of reproduction in the format of an intermedia canon. And its originality and meaning-creating inspiration in outlining the humanistic perspective testifies to the essential enrichment of the poetic discourse of the contemporary Serbian novel.
