In 2000, two biocontrol agents (Serenade, BlightBan C9-1), two SAR inducers (Actigard, Messenger), two copper compounds (Mankocide, Phyton 27), and a quinoline compound (S-0208, oxolinic acid) were ...evaluated for blossom blight control on 'Idared' apple trees. Blossoms were inoculated with Erwinia amylovora to ensure sufficient infection for separation of treatment effects. The products were sprayed on the trees at timing-based on their mode of action. Infected and healthy blossom clusters were counted 2 weeks after inoculation. The proportion of infected blossom clusters was determined and used as the measure of disease. Fruit russeting was noted 4 weeks after the last blossom spray. The best treatments with S-0208 (71.5% control), Serenade (64.3%), Messenger (58.3%), and Phyton 27 (46.1%) gave control statistically indistinguishable from the streptomycin standard treatment (64%). Although Phyton 27 contains copper sulfate, it did not cause significant fruit russeting. Phyton 27, Messenger, and the growth regulator, Apogee, were evaluated for shoot blight control on inoculated ‘Idared’ trees. Products were sprayed on trees at timing depending on their mode of action. Tips of 15 shoots on each tree were inoculated with E. amylovora. Six weeks after inoculation the necrotic lesion length (a) and the total shoot length (b) on inoculated shoots were determined, and a/b x 100 (% blighted shoot length) was used as the disease parameter. The best Apogee treatment was two applications during full bloom (3 weeks before inoculation) and 5 weeks post bloom (2 weeks after inoculation) with Regulaid, which resulted in 48.6% control and was not significantly different from streptomycin. The best Messenger treatment, 1 and 3 weeks before inoculation, gave 31.3% control. Control by Phyton 27 (50.3%) was not significantly different from streptomycin (55%), but significantly better than Mankocide (26.3%), and did not result in significant russeting.

is widely recognized as an icon of surf rock, a category that, together with surf pop, constitutes the surf music genre that emerged in 1961. Surf music reflected and gave expression to ...the rather short-lived idealistic and carefree existence of 'white' urban youth culture in Southern California before the social and political changes of the psychedelic, conscience-ridden counterculture era took hold. However, while Misirlou is an iconic example of a specific musical age and genre, it is also found in other ages and cultural traditions. It has been described as a Lebanese belly-dance melody, a popular Greek song, an Arabian serenade, a 'Terkisher' (Turkish piece) in Klezmer repertoire, and is now known to many as the theme from the film Pulp Fiction. In each case, the style and language of lyric (when there is one) adjusts to milieu, but the melody is always recognizably the same. The journey of Misirlou from folk music to the global surf rock idiom of the 1960s is in itself a narrative worth recounting, but the fact that this singular piece of music simultaneously inhabits more than one musical tradition also provides a springboard for exploring broader claims of musical identity.
Brahms's First Serenade, op. 11, has played a relatively minor role in scholarly accounts of Brahms's stylistic development, which often depict the work as a tentative step toward the composer's ...“first maturity” or as one of several failed attempts to create a symphony. By contrast, the earliest reviewers of the Serenade heard the piece as a crucial turning point in his career, and they interpreted his choice of genre as a bold statement in the emerging debate on the future course of German music. In this view, the genre of the orchestral serenade forged a link with an idealized Viennese classicism, thereby representing a denial of the ideals of Franz Brendel's “New German” school.
By reading Brahms's Serenade in terms of genre, we can begin to assess the qualities that informed its contemporary reception. Approaching genre as an interpretive mode allows us to understand the composer's provocative juxtaposition of numerous topics of discourse—the symphonic, the pastoral, the sublime, as well as the reinterpretation of specific classical gestures—as a key to the musical meaning of the piece. Brahms's extensive references to music by Mozart, Haydn, and Beethoven go beyond simple allusion to embrace the reinterpretation of compositional techniques that situate the piece within the tradition of instrumentalNachtmusik. Heard through genre, the Serenade thus emerges as a pointed response to mid nineteenth-century theories of radical modernism.
An efficient computer-aided-design-oriented large-signal microwave model for silicon MOSFETs is presented based on the well-founded small-signal equivalent circuit including self-heating effect and ...charge conservation condition. The proposed new single continuously differentiable empirical equations for drain current and gate capacitance are simple and quite accurate. The model parameters in the equations are constructed in such a way that they can be easily and straightforwardly extracted from measured data. The temperature effect is predicted by simply adopting the linear temperature-dependent model parameters for threshold voltage, saturation current, capacitance, and series resistances. The presented model is a good compromise between the simplicity of numerical calculations and the accuracy of final results that is desired by circuit designers in nonlinear circuit simulation.
